For the people that trying to find the method to find the arc, what i do is this : - I Pick the starting point color as he says - From that color, in order to create the bright colors, i add -20 to Saturation and +5 To Brightness and i increase it by -20 and +5 untill i reach to the brightess color - I do the same for the black but the other way arround, meaning that i add from the starting color +5 Saturation and -20 Brightness and i increase. You will see by doing this the colors are fitting on the arc that the video says. I hope i helped you.

Hey, thanks for your sharing. I used this promt in Bard: I have 5 tints. The first one: has a saturation of 8 and a brightness of 100. The fifth has: has a saturation of 77 and a brightness of 92. Could you interpolate, calculate fade from the first tint to the fifth one, and show this in the table with values "S" and "B"?

No forced jokes, no unnecessary animation. So plain and simple, yet conveys all the information under 10 mins. Using HSB over Hex color code is a game changer for me in terms of how you think. Hi Jordan, thank you for providing valuable knowledge about using colors from the HSB model. I was always confused about how brands come up with complete color systems, including lots, tints, and shades, specifically when working on digital products like web apps and mobile apps. I am learning product design from the very basics, so keep delivering such knowledge. 👏

Quick question, how do I practically pick colors along that arc? Is there a function in Figma to help choose colors on the arc? Or is there a mathematical framework for changing the HSB values to get the right shades? This is really useful man, great framework!
@lemonke81329 ай бұрын
yeah i can't believe this wasn't answered
@zflxw8 ай бұрын
I haven't yet found a function for that in Figma, but I have a work-around that I use. First, I open the color picker in Figma, select the HSB color space, and select a hue I like. Then, I screenshot the box of the color picker and insert the image in the Figma file. After that, I take a line and place it from the top left to the bottom right corner. You can then double click the line to enter the "Edit Object" mode. Select the Bend tool and click on the bottom right point. Now drag this point to the top right corner (or a little less, depending on how you want your arc to look). Now you have the arc from the video. Press "Done" do leave edit mode and now place circles (no fill, only stroke) at the approximated locations on the line. You can now disable the arc render and use the color picker (pipette tool) to select the colors inside the circles you placed. It is a bit hacky, I admit, but I haven't figured out a better way.

@tryoxiss7 ай бұрын
One big tip is you can use simple patterns to derive the semantic/alternate colors. For example my main color is a purple, so putting I picked an orange and violet as the natural quad of it. Of course also consider your use case, as my stuff tends to deal with a lot of code blocks so making sure you have colors that work well on the neutral backgrounds is important.

fantastic job. i'm a color nut myself and good content on color for UI is surprisingly sparse if you don't want the typical "add white or black to a base color" approach. lately i've been working in the Hue Chroma Tone (HCT) space to try to avoid pastel hues as we get lighter. i like your method a lot although i wish there was a tool that could draw that bezier through the hue plane for you and then you could pick colors along it. there are a couple that get close but they all draw straight lines rather than the necessary curve.

As you mentioned yourself, this method does not give a cohesive palette, and that’s because HSL/HSB does not consider perceptual lightness. I’d recommend trying OKLCH instead, which solves this problem, so you don’t need to manually adjust the lightness between brighter and darker hues 🎉
