Thanks for the video Gerald. Sadly we only have a few decent automotive machinists left in Connecticut. Prices today are really high due to most of the shops have a brand new building and state of the art machinery. We only have circle tracks here and a lot of the race divisions run crate engines.

It is sad. The machine tool companies are pricing them them out of business

Thanks Mr Brand I always enjoy every video. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. Proverbs 4:7-8

I have shop cats too. They thrived around blacksmith huts hundreds of years ago because most trace back to the Middle East (love hot temps). Good to have around with minimal input because they’re half feral lol. I feed, administer meds as best I can, and zero rodents. Enjoyed the video. Thank you

I hope the later model cranks are better than the 1990-93 4.3 cranks. We had issues bending the crank wiping main bearings around 650-700hp crankshaft. Turbo 4.3 in a 1993 Typhoon AWD The only true forged cranks back then didn’t have the split rod journal, NASCAR castings. $$$

This cranks has a larger rod bearing more cross-section area😀

Nice job. I musta seent every balance shop on the youtubes magic spinny computer drill press, but never seent it done with the flywheel/flexplate and damper attached. External balaced architecture seems to be a forgotten skill

did the NASCAR V6 engines use odd fire cranks, where the rod journals were companion journals like the V8 crankshafts ?

Yes Common pin cranks

So happy to know there are so many special tools to do your job right. Just wondering how do you determine the place to set those weight onto crankshaft ?.🤔

Sounds like sibling’s blaming each other… Wondering what the cat has to say ‘bout y’all blaming him?😜😘 Great stuff. Any way y’all could get into what’s involved in balancing cranks with countershafts, if a opportunity arises?

This is the first time in my (nearly 70 jear) live i see a cranck like this. Does it compensate the angle between the 2 heads? Is it for a special engine. Please ask daddy dave to show the built up of the engine.

No all V-6 have crankshaft like this . But the race crankshaft have com pin rod

Is the clocking of the Bob-weight critical on the rod journals?
@flipfloptanlines9262 ай бұрын
The clocking angle wont throw the complete balance off, just changes the angle of where the weight applies itself. This can cause annoyances but really it only effects 10ths of grams. Whats more important is that all the weights are attached to the throws on the SAME angle. This assures the same amount of weight is exactly the same amount of distance from crank center.

While I'm no machine shop owner, i just personally don't like balancing a rotator to some crummy OE flexplate and harmonic damper. What if they're replaced in the future? There's NO WAY GM spent the time and money to precision balance every one of those. They can be off by MANY grams. Again, just my opinion, maybe someone has a better idea/thought?
@flipfloptanlines9262 ай бұрын
I think with this particular combination and wanting oe compatibility, along with its intended low mileage service life, less than 10,000 miles, warrants the time spent to make oe parts perform to their peak
