That LS2 crankshaft was mine, I retired from Chevrolet power train. I got it from GMPD in Broadview Illinois. Its "brand" new. Glad to help Mr. Brand with this build. Cheers everyone, buy a ticket!

@@RichardSteelman-w4s Was that crank a cast unit. I thought I saw a parting line in the video. I put together an LS a few months ago. All aftermarket rotating and a stroker. It had the newer style heads. I don’t recall what they are called.

@@BrandRacingEngines I currently am drag racing an NHRA legal stocker. A 97 Firebird with an LT-1. Those are Gen II engines with EFI. A good engine makes close to 500 hp and the car goes mid to low 10’s at 125 in a 1/4 mile. I am using stock cast cranks. I previously ran dragsters that could run 7.50 at 180. I build my own engines. Have all my racing life. I’m 77 ! Still at it.

The crankshaft donation sure was a huge bonus. I really enjoyed the precision of installing the keyway. together with that balancer worked out perfect. Very nice work as always. Thanks for another great video.

I love watching you work and hearing your description of what you’re doing. You do fantastic, precision work. I worked for a few engine shops in my life including just a few months ago for a well known national drag racer and your shop and your work are top quality. I wish you were near me because I do some engine work at home on my own race engines and for others. Good machine shops like you and yours are few and far between around my area. 👍

Very nice work Gerald. Very nice of people to donate to the project. Is that a LS3 Gun Drilled crankshaft? I like the keyway cube, where did you get that? Would be handy for double keyways. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend. 👍🇺🇸👍

Haimer universal 3D sensor makes edge/center locating a LOT easier. When both dials read 0, then the spindle is centered over what you're measureing. No need to do any additional math to offset the ball on your edge finder. Plus no tones like you have with the electronic finders. I bought the model 80.360.00.IN back almost five years ago. Used it enough to make the purchase well worth it. I also use an ER32 collet system on my [manual] milling machine. I've got enough collets now that I even use it for number size drill bits.

Y’all highlighting something here, many don’t consider. Think a lot of people think, “if I had a vertical mill, I could do my own work…”, which sounds good, up till the time they realize, that there’s a whole nuther rabbit hole, goes with it, for the required work holding, tool holding, tooling, measuring equipment, and required experience, that doesn’t make it practical, short of going into the business, or being a hardcore hobbyist with a lot of time on their hands, and is why the most practical answer is to take the machine work to a demonstrated and proven professional.

I personally don’t think it’s a big deal deburing the cam bearings like that. The cam isn’t loaded like a crankshaft, so long as it’s not reducing the clearance I can’t see the problem.

This LS2 Crank was for the Corvette. I've never seen one break. Diesel cranks break and those that see severe detonation. With NA it will last forever.

It is a shame that the auto manufacturers in the U.S.. did not make cranks and block with no crank snout. It is not good for high performance. Balncers that bolt onto the front of the crank. Auto manufacturers took the easy way out with front seals.
