Which is why Creedy just says “That’s impossible!” Sure you can argue till the cows come home that V did a ton of impossible things, and that Creedy should have taken that into consideration, but also remember, V has been making Creedy seem like an incompetent fool for the past year now, and now that Creedy finally has V in his grasp, he just wants it over with and claim the glory of being the man to eliminate the terrorist V, after said Terrorist had murdered the Chancellor (cause come on, you know Creedy is gonna pin that on V if he could), all of which paves the way for Creedy to become the new High Chancellor. V knew this, as the Inspector said, V knows all of them better than they know themselves, so he played on Creedy’s ego to make him desperate for a win, ultimately so that Creedy would become overconfident in the eleventh hour (figuratively and literally), and not give his opponent the respect he deserves. What this movie and many movies about "end of the world" and "totalitarian takeovers" get wrong is where the takeover will come from. They all seem to think the radical Christianity with its rules and restrictions will try and impose them on the populous. This misunderstands a basic fact about Christianity, and that is that it is an individual based religion. The relationship is between the individual and God. Thus Christianity would never succeed in a totalitarian take over because its very foundation is in conflict with totalitarianism. Instead it is the philosophy of "Groups" and "Collective Responsibility" that create Totalitarianism. Where the individual can be tossed aside for the good of the group... that's where the real danger is! Beware of these philosophies and ideas even when they take on religious trappings and "feels".

When V appears, he said "Penny for the guy." No surprise there is history to this quote. After Guy Fawkes was executed, people would construct and burn effigies of him. Children would construct such effigies and carry them through town asking adults to contribute money to buy fireworks for the burning. The popular proposition for this was, naturally, "Penny for the guy?" Over the years, the term "guy" has changed meanings from "humble and friendly beggar" to "friendly man" to "friends in general." When you refer to your friend group as "the guys," you're making reference to this historic source. Fortunately, we don't burn guys anymore. :)

All his efforts were just to tear that system down - he had no help or plans for those who would be left to pick up the pieces. I still think he's the clear hero in this story, and a dang good one, but we don't need destruction, we need people willing to stand up for what's right - and we need millions of them. We won't be saved by someone, we have to do it ourselves.

@@blondegirlsezthis8798 Dude, V's in a country that's unbelievably worse than the US. It's literally setup how China is right now: one ruling party in control of everything with a top leader that it is impossible to remove from office, concentration camps for undesirables (Uighur Muslims are the most notable group for that in China), violence used by those in power with no repercussions even when the police ignore the law, etc... Here in the US, Trump has a slim margin in the house (just six seats), the opposition is alive and not going anywhere. Trump needs a 2/3rds majority to overturn any amendments - like the one that limits him to two terms - so it's literally four years of his garbage we have to make it through. Turning to violence is only valid when you've got no other choice, such as the colonies rebelling because the monarch refused to listen to their grievances, or when the South decided keeping slavery was worth trying to destroy the country for. Trump absolutely wants to be like totalitarian dictators like Xi or Putin, but he's not and he literally can't unless the Democrats suddenly side with him and remove all the checks and balances. If that happens - *that* would be the time for a violent uprising. But this idea that violence is the answer every time things are bad or we don't get what we want is not a good way to be.

Because the Right Wing Republican nutbars are whining about how they're so oppressed and discriminated against because people are standing up to their racist, sexist, homophobic rhetoric. Or... that's what I wanted to believe, once. But now I understand that the snowflakes rule because of the spineless.

Checked out of this movie at this point. Zero tension when the protagonist is virtually invincible. In the Matrix, Neo's eventual power was a well developed arc of ideas and character development. In this movie it was sudden an unearned. V for Vendetta is a bad movie. Sorry you had to hear it from a youtube comment.
