Great review! I quite liked V/H/S '99's place in the series. My interpretation of Ozzy's classification is that of a Djinn. Thus the wishes and demonic appearance. I discovered you guys through your V/H/S '85 review, and i'm happy I subscribed.

If y’all have Shudder, look for the show The Core, I believe it’s an earlier Shudder original series-It’s like a talk show kind of thing. Each episode centers around the guest (who I think are all directors,) for instance The Soska Sisters are a guest on one ep and their episode revolves a lot around the severing of penises. There is an ep w/ Flying Lotus, so without watching Kuso you can get Flying Lotus’ vibe from that ep. *Medusa is the character, Gorgons are the species/group.

The finale from the first by radio silence and the Safe Haven segment in the second VHS movie have always been my favorite shorts. Of any kind. But my goodness, "To Hell and Back" took me aback. Brought the bonkers ass haunted house run through terrifying shit, but there was also a real comedy factor to almost every scene. I loved it and after this and "Deadstream" I CANNOT wait for what that duo does next.

Not sure I would call Kuso a horror movie but oh boy it is out there. Mostly it felt like an exercise in grossing out the viewer. Every bodily fluid is on display in the grossest manner possible so it makes sense that Ozzy's Dungeon was Flying Lotus' segment. I didn't care for Kuso, but if you want to be grossed out, check it out.

I'm really curious what '85 will be like. But that aside, Shredding lowkey gave me Studio 666 with the Foo Fighters vibes. Just a little. All they needed was a Lionel Richie dream scenario with him saying not to use his music and how he loves that song.

Wow Flying Lotus did a segment, he’s a musician and makes some really dope music. Kinda afrofuturism, cosmic, new wave jazz, a bunch of things mixed in one but he’s a great producer who’s always had a distinct style. You may dig his stuff. One thing I like about the V/H/S series is how it illustrates that nerds can also be scumbags. In the 80s & 90s movies always painted jocks as bullies, while portraying nerds as put-upon victims who can do no wrong. Bruckner's segment from the first V/H/S & the Rear Window-esque segment from this movie both show the 'sympathetic' nerd characters getting their hands dirty. Fun enough, but 94 was much better.

well, it's at least better than VHS viral but then again i have a pile of dog poop in my back yard that is probably more entertaining than viral so that's not saying much. The first two VHS movies were amazing. It's just been a downward trend since then. I honestly can't even remember any segments from the last couple entries, and I've seen them all. I will probably forget this one by the time I wake up in the morning.

Ive loved the VHS movies ever since day 1 but VHS 1 and 2 were truly the best, something the later movies just fail to replicate. Don’t get me wrong, I like the other ones too but not as much. In VHS 99 some of the segments really should have been longer, in fact I feel like some of the other ones too such as the one with the teenage boys peeking on the woman neighbour. Its a shame they end quite short and fast just as its about to get super interesting. In my opinion VHS 99 didn’t really feel like a VHS movie at all because there was no backstory narrative in place as to how the tapes were discovered or being played, so that kind of took away that VHS ‘feeling’. But the movie wasn’t bad by any means since the last 2 segments made up for it. I would say that my favourite segments of all are 1. Safe Haven (This one was just way too entertaining man), 2. Bonestorm from VHS Viral, this was just so much anxiety inducing the entire haha and its almost like I want to list it as my number 1 sometimes but its kind of hard between Safe Haven. 3. The funeral home one from VHS 94, that was truly scary even though it was predictable as to what was going to happen with the coffin. 4. This ‘Gawkers’ one from VHS 94 with the teenage boys and the neighbour, just a shame it wasn’t longer because it was really getting me on the edge of the seat. I know sequels have been announced and I’m happy for that but I just wish they would give us what we had in VHS 1 and 2, it almost feels as if those were of a different era or time generation sadly now.
