Tae wanted this album to be his rookie album. He embarked on a new journey and he wanted to start from the beginning. He wanted a layover for both us and him. He has his whole career in front of him and he wants to build it from the beginning and enjoy the journey. This album is my drug honestly. It seems simple and chill but I get obsessed with one song from the album every week. The way there is so much depth to the sound and to his vocals, it's amazing. I just love this man. He put a 1min flute solo on his title track. Very few artists would do that in today's musical landscape

Every time you laughed out loud because you loved what he did somewhere, I was smiling so big. You know, I love playing Layover as I drive back from work. V possesses a low, deep baritone voice. He's a boy born with a gem/treasure in his throat. His voice is not just deep. It's soft and has a warmth, bringing depth to any pop song he sings. You can feel body warmth in his voice and in the songs that he makes. It sounds like a small heart beating away Furthermore, when he sings he makes excellent use of his deep chest voice, head voice, mixed voice and falsetto, drawing on his sweet baritone voice, resulting in transitions so smooth you won't notice how wide his range is from a casual listen. I think that is what makes him amazing. His voice doesn't let you notice how high and low it's really going. He possesses voice control so stress free that the listener doesn't notice it.

You can fell what an old soul Taehyung is. I love that he used the flute in Slow dancing and that the overall vibe of the album is chill and soft and relaxing, you can listen to it in loop it's hypnotizing. It is a pleasure to listen to someone who knows what he is saying and justifies it. Layover is an album full of feelings, longing for lost loves, melancholy for the past, sadness and hope alike. Music in its purest form that doesn’t seek rapid consumption but rather to last in our memory as a feeling that gives you comfort. My hope is that Taehyung after his military service produces an album with his own songs. He has given us small previews of his songs and they are wonderful, I hope his company leave him absolutely freedom to make the music that is in his heart. Forgot to say: this is probably the most comforting heart break album I ever got to listen to. Early fall/autumn is the perfect time to listen to it. I do it in my car, on golden, sunny days, the window rolled down just a little bit to feel that the mid-warm air hit my skin. Basically the album is telling you: your heart was broken, but it's gonna be ok. You'll be happy again. And while you listen to it, you are already on the verge of that new found happiness. I'd recommend you to watch the live version of V performing with a little jazz band. You can tell he loves Jazz/R'n b so much. He's also a very kind & sweet person. Have you noticed the cover of the album is the face of his dog (named Yeontan)? Even if he wasn't able to film the mv's with the dog, because the travelling would've been too harsh on him, he made sure to include a very similar looking dog in many parts of the mv's (have you spotted it's face carved in the Landscapes in slow dancing? Have you seen the girl putting him down & sending it back to him in Blue? Have you seen the posters on the wall or the dog itself by his side all the time?) I believe the love for/friendship with his dog has helped him go through heart break/s many times, that's why he dedicated the album to him. I knew you'd love Layover! It's so good, isn't it? Not a skip on there and it's just such a vibe. I probably listen to this ep at least once a day, not gonna lie. The vocals, the production, the instrumentation and attention to detail- I couldn't find a thing to complain about on this album if a tried... I mean, aside from wanting a million more songs because I cannot get enough of Tae's voice. But at the same time, I think he chose the songs he did to tell a story and even with just five songs, it feels like a complete narrative. Which is something I really appreciate. Not sure if others have mentioned it but the MVs together definitely tell an interconnected story. In 'Rainy Days' he is a sculptor/artist reliving moments of his relationship in small time warps, 'Blue' is a B&W flashback to the final breakup where he at least gets his dog Yeontan back, 'Love Me Again' shows him alone repeatedly pleading for his lover karaoke style, and in 'Slow Dancing he has created a happy imaginary world and inserted himself into the simulation as a way to cope with his loneliness.

I have waited for this reaction since Sunday… thank you so much. Layover is a no-skip album for me. Although the topic is heartbreaking (unrequited love), his vocals are warm. A seeming reprieve from the pain. Tae delivers the otherwise depressing love songs with warm vocals. He is the happiness preacher for sure. He performed 3 songs from this album at npr Tiny Desk with a freaking live band. I cried watching that performance. The band was lit and his live vocals had me on a chokehold. Pls react to npr tiny desk. His most recent single is FRI(END)S… that single had layering like a church choir.

For us hits differently too when you realise the context around it and the timing of this album release. It was released before his enlistment for military service (happens to be Special forces too) What's great about their music is it's ALWAYS layered. There's so much for interpretation and so many entendres. Intentionally so, a tracks lyrics might mean one thing to one person and hold multiple meanings at once. It's something that i noticed early on and really appreciated too. Sonically, lyrically, even the delivery choices. They're a bunch of masters of their craft and they all elevate one another in their own lanes. It's a spirit of excellence that really can't be denied and deserves appreciation. He also performed each track live for tv performances as well as the tiny desk recommendations you're getting that i think you'd enjoy too. He wanted to perform to audiences live before not being able to. It's touching, whilst you can also appreciate his vocals live too. They all sound as good live as on record as they work hard to perform. They've trained themselves hard to get to where they are now and it shows. Would be nice to see you later react to his other solo tracks he produced along the way. It shows his colours and choices off well. I was waiting for this reaction!!! I'm so glad you didn't wait and listened to the whole album, Layover is a masterpiece. Next you could watch his Tiny Desk performance, IT'S AMAZING, YOU'LL BE BLOWN AWAY! I would also recommend watching his Suchwita (Suga's talk show) episode, he talks about the making of this album, it's such a great interview and an opportunity to get to know his personality and charm (and you'll get to know yoongi´s personality too, they have a beautiful bond)

YESSSSS…..OMG I’m so glad you noticed it sounds like rain!!!! This is my favourite song on the album because I love the rain (piano) and clock sounds (tick, tick, tick). Tae has said that he likes the feeling of longing, and this album definitely has that vibe covered, oh and he looooves jazz. Tae is my bias, it’s that X factor, you can’t NOT listen to his voice, it pulls you in like quick sand and envelopes you. When i first heard him sing and saw who it was, the voice just didn’t match this kid, I was blown away. He sounded like a 40 year old man not an 18 year old.🤣 Thank you so much for your reaction, I love your insights💜

Excellent reaction / review! Love your insight and attention to the details. When you mention that there are various times of the day when one song hits more than others, YES, that's how the BTS discography as well as solo projects are for ARMY. There are times (and seasons) when we want to devour the early songs like "Look Here," "Spine Breaker," and "Louder than Bombs" then other times when only the vocal line songs or the rap line songs hit the spot. BTS is genre-less and there's always something for everyone at any time.
