Karina, I have been sewing for at least 50 years and have always appreciated the value of hand basting. You always teach me something new and you give us confidence to tackle any project. I just recently thrifted a cashmere sweater with a turtle neck too tight to go over the head. I'm thinking it happened the first time they washed it. So I made it into a V neck following your instructions. Thank you so much!

Karina, you are becoming my best friend! Thank you for these very helpful videos. You are actually a scientist. You make all this understandable! I wish I could have found this video a couple years ago when I was trying to make a V-neck knit maternity top for my daughter. Ugh! I could NOT understand the directions, but you have addressed all the elements here. I see that transferring dots may not always be as accurate as measuring, and WHY...which is also WHY I appreciate you so much! Thanks again, keep these coming, please!

Its always good to see how another person sews something. I've been making V-necks for years and you've got me thinking about it differently now. FYI- when the curl on ITY knits bothers me, I use spray starch. The starch lets it still stretch to fit but it doesn't roll so much.

The V is my favourite neckline to wear and the Love Notions LTD is the unicorn summer top for my busty pear shape. The traditional neckband does take a little more work, but it's so satisfying to sew. I might be easy to entertain, but it always feels like a minor act of witchcraft when I sew the neckband. Really looking forward to your next video, I'm hoping it will be relevant to something I have in mind... altering the necklines of existing tshirts.

This video is perfectly timed. I am struggling with getting the neck band on a double brushed poly fabric I am using for a T-shirt. I am making the left notions classic tea. One problem is when I try to sew on my Janome the tension on a straight stitch is horrible it’s just doesn’t work and when I go to the setting for C mean nits I end up with the lightning bolt zigzag. I was hoping you might be able to help me and answer a question. Should I go ahead and so the neck band on using the lightning bolt stitch or should I use the elastics red that I bought from Gutterman and try the straight stitch with that? Thanks for another excellent video

I would try just a shallow zig zag. 0.5 width and 2.5 length. I never use the lightning bolt stitch or stretch thread. I try to keep it simple. The shallow zig zag will look almost like a straight stitch but will allow stretch.

It’s the length at the seam line. The seam allowance, not the edge of the fabric. I explained it in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKmag6CForuZqsksi=2DfYmf2iDVf0VfnJ The one you saw here shows the technique only.

When sewing the neckband to the front, my fabric rolled in on the band, reducing the seam allowance. I’m going to try ironing it again, after I rip it out, but I was wondering if it’d be a good idea to add a narrow bit of stretch interfacing to the edges to keep it flat. Or will the seam allowance get too thick?
@LiftingPinsandNeedles

I would not add interfacing on a knit V neckline. What I do when fabric rolls is use spray starch and a lot of hand basting on the edge, no pins.

Hi! I have a velour knit with 50% stretch which is a bit thick. How could I go about finishing the armhole so it is not visible from the outside?

One great tip to avoid those curling raw edges : spay starch your fabric and the curling is gone. The starch will disappear all by itself through handling, and if not, a bit of water will do the trick...

Interesting you used a serger stitch BEFORE the machine stitch on no. 2, overlap v-neckband.

I have a question about the measurements you’re using. In the pencil skirt tutorial, you use your waist measurement and length but not hip. In this video you’ve clearly curved out for your hip. When I made mine I curved out at the hip, but I have a bunch of vertical gathers under my ass. I’ve taken it in and they’re still there. What am I doing wrong? Please help! I love your videos and I want to succeed. My fabric had lots of stretch.

I can’t see how your question related to seeing V necklines. I don’t know what you are referring to because this video is not about drafting patterns.

Thanks but I can’t control the birds at all. They do their thing out there… it’s their home.
