Are pistols any good right now? And if so what build do you run?

The whip is in much better now and I'm trying to get used to it. You can play this build I played with a pistol. But I recommend you not to be limited to just the pistol.

if the pistol is legendary yes its cuz really good damage on double bomb but for auto attacks whip is better

Any advice on controls for weapon changes?

I think the most important thing in the beginning is to bind the keys in a way that you can use them comfortably. As you can see in the video, 1, 2, 3, 4, capslock, v, 8, 9. My 8 and 9 keys are bound to my mouse 3 and 4 buttons. So you can use more weapons more comfortably.
