In my 20+ years of owning and running my own upholstery business I'd recommend getting 2 cheap paint guns, 25' air line, and 5 gallon pressure pot the whole setup available at harbor freight for under $100 (minus solvent line). While your at Harbor Freight get yourself a $30 pneumatic rivet gun 20% off with their coupon, and instal rivets in seconds with quick pull of trigger each time and the pins just eject themselves out back of rivet gun. Just make sure the hose for the glue is made for solvents, the glue will each a standard air hose. Then and you can have your contact cement setup ready to spray at the end of 25' hose anywhere in the shop in a second and the glue stays fresh in the pressure pot so there is nothing to open or put away when done gluing. Just grab gun off the hook on wall, spray 2 parts you need to lue and hang it back up on the wall hook ready for next use. I have been using that same set up for decades where the only maintenance is occasionally I swap out one glue gun for another and let the other gun soak in mineral spirits to clean off old glue if it even gets gummed up and few hours later you can wipe off dried glue and its brand new ready to be swapped out again in a year or two depending how messing you are. But 2 guns will last forever, just buy the cheapest suction fed guns so the air and fluid line attach at bottom of gun not gravity style with cups on top of gun. Spray glue is so much faster and cheaper with less of mess and wasted material glue shoots out in either a wide or thin web depending on how you adjust guns spray pattern.It's either accurate and hits in an exact spot or spray a wide surface in seconds. You use a fraction of the amount of glue only spraying a thin web that is just as strong as thick coating with stick or brush you try to smear around. Also buying spray landau top adhesive from an upholstery supply outfit is not only the strongest contact adhesive that won't release and turn gooey in high temperatures, it's great for headliners. But is also cheapest in 5 gallon jugs, where you pay the same as what 3 gallons of brushable cost but get 5 gallons of sprayable which will out last 10 gallons of brushable glue. Faster, cleaner, more durable, a spray system can't be beat especially in a small production time where difference in making a profit or a loss comes down to saving time anywhere you can. . Also if you spray both pieces you plan to glue together and then let it kick off for a couple minutes till glue stops feeling wet. then you can place the two items together and they bond instantly and permanently. No more using 8 roles of tape and making a mess. Then get an old electric turkey carver where the 2 serrated blades slide back and forth next to each other, they are probably $5 at any Goodwill store and make best foam saw to shape and cut foam I have ever used. Seat looks good though.

Have you ever tried toluene or MEK to clean your guns? The only contact cement I can get does not offer a thinner and acetone turns the cement into something that looks like cheese curd and still has to be wiped off with a rag.
@gregnokes9880
@gregnokes9880 4 жыл бұрын
@@oh8wingman They make a spray able adhesive called Landau Top Adhesive for panels and trim made by Weldwood. Its best stuff to use because it requires very high temperatures to return to a gummy glue like substance. So you can use it for headliners and convertible tops. Where regular rubber or contact cement on a hot summer day will turn gooey and your headliner material will fall back down from where it was glued into place. I buy it in 5 gallon containers I use to fill the pressure pot and don't need to do anything else with it. If the gum gets too gummed up after a few years I go buy another $15 gun from harbor freight and throw the old one in a bucket of wax and grease remover / mineral spirits to soften and remove the old glue. By now I have a few I can rotate out while one is being cleaned. I just remove the paint cup from the bottom of the gun and connect the solvent line. Then connect one air line to the pressure pot to push the glue to the gun and a 2nd air line to the gun itself to spray the glue out in a perfect spider like web pattern, better than any spray can will. It doesn't require any special gun or tip, but the bigger the gun orifice the more glue sprays out and in a thicker web like pattern.

Sorry guys,. Time to re name the video. "How to make a seat base and foam pad". You only showed how to make a base and a pad. The finished leather just suddenly appeared. You did not include the measurement for the leather, cutting patterns, cutting leather, quilting the seat top with it's soft 6mm under layer of foam, stapled leather basting assembly. first sewing, first assembly to pad, cutting for adjustments and re sewing, second or third assembly. polishing and final buffing of the leather, final assembly of leather to pad, and final assembly of the finished seat to the bike. And as for MIG welding with hot spatter going all over the painted tank? Says it all.
