I think it is a reference to the persona of V vs.the reality of who Taehyung actually is. He has his persona of V that has a certain stage presence that is crafted for the audience, but the real Taehyung is lonely and a little melancholy. At some point he forgets that V is just a creation, and starts to live as though that is who he actually is, but the real him, or his shadow confronts him in the end and he remembers that he isn't real. Taehyung is real, flaws and all, and has a dark side that only he knows about. It is painful to accept, that the person known as V is only an illusion, and in the end he can't escape from himself or the reality of who he actually is when the audience is gone and he is no longer is the spotlight.

I've noticed a familiar theme in some of Tae's MVs: he sees himself as happy in the company of a lover and/or a group of friends, but in the end, they always end up just being in his imagination and he's actually quite alone. And he sadly accepts that being lonely is his fate. At least that's my interpretation.

I can't tell you how excited I was for this collab. Unlike most people, I was looking forward to seeing Park Hyo Shin again ESPECIALLY on a Christmas song, because that man does Christmas so well!! I'm glad you liked his vocals on this. Park Hyo Shin is considered one of the best male vocalists (as you can tell from his vocals), and he also does musicals!! Honestly, all of his fans (soul tree is what we're called, and he's called captain) have been waiting patiently for this man to come back out and I think this was a good way to do that. Park Hyo Shin debuted in 1999 as well :3 edit: I feel like I should add something. So, some people might mention that Park Hyo Shin had, in the past, recovered from an issue that impacted his voice. Since I've gotten into him, I've been unable to confirm nor deny that, I scoured the internet and watched a lot of content. Even when he speaks about his old music, he just says he dislikes them because he was forced to sing in his deeper tone continuously, but never mentions that he developed an issue from it. edit #2: ALSO, THIS IS A PERFECT TIME!! Park Hyo Shin is releasing newer MVs for his last album, but he's turning it into a film this time!! For any one curious (you too seb), you should check it out once it comes out! This MV is loosely based on the mythical Greek story of Pygmalion who was a statue maker who built a statue of a woman so pretty & lifelike he falls in love with it. The acting by V is superb, I'm sure Korean directors will be vying to cast him in movies or a Kdrama as soon as he's discharged. The official MV was just released by Hybe that shows V & Park Yo Shin together singing. Since they are best friends in real life, the chemistry was natural & their voices blended so well together. Park Yo Shin has a background in musical theatre, so he was the right choice for this MV.

what if, at the end, they are both sculptures?? I think the real tae is the one with the loose, wavy hair and he's lonely and goes to the theatre and shopping and driving and dancing always by himself, so he creates the sculptures and they come alive and they make him happy for a while but he loses himself. then he starts to realise so he destroys the sculptures because he wants to find himself again, and at the end the two sides of Tae - the light and the dark - come together to balance himself out and go back to Tae so he's not lost any more and he doesn't need anyone but himself

I literally fell in love with V when I watched “war of hormones” actually; how ironic you brought that up! I always enjoyed his vocals because of the uniqueness in his voice. You’re absolutely right though, I never imagined back then that THIS type of music and THESE vocals would evolve to this masterpiece. I love your description: this is literally musical maturity. И герой понял, что и он тоже - всего лишь скульптура (крест на шее, его бюст в конце и т.п.), а создатель - человек уставший, грустный, истекающий кровавым потом. В итоге герой не может выйти за пределы места создания (особняка) - тоже в конце понятен его испуг при неудавшейся попытке выйти. My thoughts? I picture it as Tae creating V, the persona. Him walking and dancing by himself, in the theater (the performer), walking with a teddy bear (the child in him) the dancing crowd (those who influenced him).. And in the end, he discovers "paradise" when he finally sees his creation of V and somewhat accepts it that it's definitely a part of him. Still just my thought. Winter is Tae's favorite season and, through it all, when winter comes, he still feels warmth even in the cold because he knows he will always have his creation with him. his creation is "dark" because of all the trials and pain" he as endured. So the girl is also a part of him, his many facets of his persona. Truly a masterpiece!

In my humble opinion, this video gave me PYGMALION vibes ( greek mithology) ... I know something about Pygmalion: he was a sculptor, but also the king of Cypris .He made a statue of a woman, bur he fell in love with the statue because it was so perfect. As for the meaning of the video, I have a theory to consider. Perhaps the sculpture represents his creation of "V" the entertainer and personality. That V character he created lived a vibrant and active life in the limelight. The other sculptures he created represent ARMY who were also his creation through the V character and they happily interacted with the V character. Tae at the end shows up to bring a sobering end to the character V's party life because he is going to the military and the V character has to come to an end. The black stuff dripping off of Tae is black hair dye representing a complete return to his real and complete self, Kim Taehyung, bringing the created V to an end. But understand that the end is required for now because of the military break ahead. I suspect we'll see a new sculpture V in June 2025 who is buffer and more mature.

Your theory is so good, we’ve gotten a official statement regarding the mv but it wasn’t incredibly indebt, I like your idea of how he was neglecting his other side, like he became so indulged in his art that he lost himself in his art entirely becoming art itself and was hit with the realization that he was neglecting his other side (the non artist) which is why he showed up bloody, bc he was forgotten, and the art taehyung realized that and smile when he came to terms that he has to nurture both of his sides, which is when all those things disappeared bc they no longer became the center of his world, his reality was broken because he had to introduce his other reality into it

V the sculptor created an image of himself, V the statue or the sculpture. V sculptor must be projecting his own desires to live be with someone in his V statue. Or he could be a loner, seeking to live/happiness but doesn’t know how. This desire breathed life to his creation. Thus, when the V statue came to life, he also desired to be with someone and created a female statue and breathed life to her. The V sculpture lived the life, ie, going around, feeling the wind, being awed by other lives (like the butterfly), dancing, partying, celebrating, loving a girl. But that will end as he faced his creator later and realized he was not real, thus the heartbreaking sadness and acceptance in V’s eyes in the last scene. This is when you see the girl disappearing and even his face in the mirror partly turning into stone. The sculptor V is bloodied. This may represent his own brokenness, or relate to the scene where he was angry and frustrated and took such anger on his scuplture of V thus scraping that part of his face under his eye, and breaking him. It can also be theorized that when sculptor V broke the V statue, this instead gave life to the statue while the sculptor sustained the brokenness or injuries, sort of opposite effect. Or these could all just be a part of the sculptor’s dreams. Teaser 1 represents the darkness in his life. Teaser 2 is his daydream of a happier life, although it will end like any other dream, and he will go back to reality. Also the dark jacket and heavy footsteps may represent the darkness in the sculptor’s life, while the red jacket and whitish colors may symbolize life and lightness. For me there are both biblical and mythological elements in the storyline.

*Here is a fellow Army’s theory, on the mv & lyrics… this does not belong to me… but I find it a very interesting theory* My theory about Winter Ahead is that it beautifully intertwines the Pygmalion myth, with a deeply personal twist. Taehyung’s character seems to live a lonely life, crafting sculptures he pretends are his companions to escape solitude. But the heartbreaking revelation is that he wasn’t just creating others-he was sculpting himself too. The sculptures are fragments of his soul and his emotions. On his birthday he dances with them and the woman he loves with but as he blows out the candles they begin to fade away. As darkness envelopes him he notices a light and someone approaching him, that's Tae himself! His tears reflect the realization, the bittersweet acceptance that he is a sculpture himself marked by the X mark under his ear. Taehyung’s artistry is pure poetry, and his storytelling leaves an ache in the heart... It's a beautiful MV and the storyline is open to many narratives and theories Bighit Music press release: "The music video for "Winter Ahead (with PARK HYO SHIN)" draws inspiration from the Greek myth of Pygmalion. This MV was inspired by Pygmalion, a Greek mythology about a sculptor who created a statue that came to life with V’s twist on it. V was inspired by the movie about time (which was about time travel, wanting to go back in time) when he made Winter Bear. V made this MV in 2022 so he knew the storyline and he put in Easter eggs and hints in his songs after 2022 like Rainy days, Slow Dancing and Fri(end)s. A sculptor in Rainy Days, multiple V’s and a virtual world in Slow Dancing. In Fri(ends), two parallel universes with the inception moment at the end of V and Tae meeting just like in Winter ahead. He has created a VU and cleverly played the it out by making a storyline mv in 2022 (Winter Ahead) then seeding Rainy Days, Slow Dancing and Fri(end)s with hints. Songs that came after Winter Ahead in creation only to come full circle to the Winter Ahead mv for it to connect. V inspires critical thinking on steroids with his thought provoking art.

he brings his sculptures to life. he realises this after he brought a beautiful statue to life (the girl), he tangles so much in the happiness of being with her that he forgot his other sculptures. and the blood on his face, is because the self sculpture he made got a Crack. after somehow the girl's sculptures gets destroyed, and she vanishes. he makes more but he can't do that anymore. he can't bring life to his art anymore. but he can still feel his own finger on his face when he caresses his self sculpture.
