Does the Earth make a sound? Yes! and it's very eerie!
The European Space Agency (ESA) recently released 5 minutes of haunting, crackling audio. Revealing what Earth's magnetic field sounds like. Called the Magnetosphere, it is generated deep within the Earth's interior, at its core. It extends out into space, creating a strong protective shield against things such as charged particles zipping out of the Sun, called the solar wind. And Without this powerful magnetic field, Earth would likely be a barren, cold, dry world. The audio clip you are about to experience might sound like the stuff of nightmares, but sit back, relax and listen to the strange creaking, crackling and rumbling of our planet's protective shield. I sometimes wonder what makes one write stuff not related to the video at all? Fear? Or is it some kind of mental disturbance making one to think others loved the same stuff or what? Great that you felt relief in your life, but most depressions are just caused by infections, the lack or nutrients and fresh air/being immobile. It is also good to be aware of many who have become severity hurt by various religions especially Christianity who isolate instead of helping the weak in faith so to speak.

The sound of our planet isn't creepy, it sounds like the ice cracking on a lake as you go over it. But, it also sounds alive. Seeing as this is the sound of our planet taking care of us all, I would listen to it all day and any change in it I would panic.

Amazing! Bits of it sounded like fragments of glass, or crystals were bouncing off a hard surface. I guess there would be no sound at all if nothing were striking the field: conversely, it's bound to be noisy as it's constantly fending stuff off. Never has anything that sounds so eerie, actually been so reassuring!

it doesn't actually make sound. the sound is synthesized using the data of the magnetic field. a computer creates this actual sound. sound needs air or a medium in order to exist.

One very cold, still night, I was walking on a road alone during 24 hr darkness and saw the best Aurora Borealis show of my life. It was close and vibrant green and fushia, but what made it so spectacular was that I could hear it. The sound was like electric wind.

Fascinating sounds, creaks, groans, tinkling like glass or chimes. It is soothing and also terrifying to think how long we would be around as a species if our magnetic field fails. It would be incredible to know what "matter" causes which sounds.

Bottle tops, windchimes and falling trees are the mimicked sounds I heard. So frightening to think of how fragile and vulnerable earth is suspended in space, still so protective and maternal just the same. Thank you for this video - it was rather enjoyable and intriguing.

@@sharonmiller7213 If you can see stars at night from Earth's surface why would you not be able to see stars from the ISS when the sun is on the opposite side of the planet? The overwhelming majority of light that the Earth reflects comes from the sun, so when the sun is on the opposite side of Earth to the ISS, the Earth's surface below the ISS isn't reflecting very much light at all, only what the stars themselves produce, so of course they'd be visible.

Some say it's a soothing sound. But I think if you could all of a sudden hear this sound 24/7, it might drive some insane. Awesome sound. As for sleeping to this, I'd prefer the soft hum of a fan.

@RicciBilotta • It drove me insane at just 4 minutes in. I too, prefer to listen to the white noise of a fan as well. As a matter of fact I have my fan on right now, I have it on Everyday, I cannot sleep without my fan. I even turn my fan on in the winter time too because of the white noise helps me fall asleep. I Love my fan, would NEVER trade it for anything.
