Congratulations to Cole and you for this auspicious occasion! Thanks for taking us along on your tour of the rigs, especially the unfinished unit. That was an awesome rig! It gave me a few ideas for my van, a '19 GMC Savana 2500 cargo van, I've been converting for several weeks now. You "red light" idea for your Revel is a super one I will definitely include in my build. I hope to see you on the road one day as I travel throughout the lower 48, Canada and Alaska. However, my rig won't be set up for "outback" travel even with 4X4 installation (a part of my build plan).

I’m sure Winnebago goes with the stock suspension set up for cost reasons, but it seems like everyone eventually upgrades to the Agile RIP kit, so I think it would be great if Winnebago could just go with that for the setup even if that meant adding the cost to the rig. Save everyone the after market work. Great lighting mods as well. Thanks for sharing. Now I just need a Revel😃

Thanks for the cool video as usual! Tell Ken & JT Hola! from me. They did my F150 3.0L diesel lift over the Christmas holiday. Not sure I see the benefit of the OEV Camp-HBE Hudson Bay Ed over the Four Wheel Campers (FWC) Hawk model. Both are flat bed style campers, but the price of the OEV is way up there. Starting price on the OEV Hudson Bay is $55,750 vs. a starting price for the standard Hawk at $28,995. The trays are more expensive as well and seem to have the same features. OEV tray at $12,100 vs. the Norweld tray at $8,999. All feature seem the same from your walk through vs. the walk through of the Hawk by We're the Russos. Even if you go with the Hawk Woolrich Edition the starting price is $47,795. Only difference I see between the HBE and the Hawk is the exterior construction of composite panels (HBE) vs. aluminum (Hawk). Not sure composite is worth the $29K price difference.
@MrChadx13 жыл бұрын
Starting price is deceptive because there are soooo many things that are standard on Overland Explorer campers that are expensive options on Four Wheel Campers. FWC charges you for camper jacks $775, Extra vent/fan $350, solar panel and controller $1,295, hot water heater $1,075, Furnace $755, fridge $895, upgrade the stock sink and stovetop to flat top ones $625, thermal pack $800, etc.) All those things and more are standard and included on the CAMP-HBE. A better comparison is the Woolrich addition you mention which comes loaded like the CAMP-HBE. FWC website lists those at $50k, so that is about $7,500 difference over the CAMP-HBE. The construction material and the high end components well worth the $7,000 difference in my opinion. Either can go on any flatbed as long as you accommodate the external tiedown points. Overland Explorer uses better appliances in my opinion. Truma tankless, on-demand hot water heater, Truma heater, REDARC brand battery manager that is the AC charger, DC charger and solar controller. All the components that I prefer and would have to change out on the FWC. Like you mention, the construction is very different and the biggest performance difference. FWC uses aluminum frame for walls and ceiling and a thin piece of white styrofoam insulation between the frame members. Overland Explorer uses honeycomb composite panels that are rated at R8 insulating factor. The soft top is quilted and rated at R4. FWC offers an "Thermal Pack" for the soft top that is simply a second piece of material that traps a bit of air between the two layers. It's not insulated and gets a lot of condensation between the layers so you have to mop up the inside of the canvas every morning. We had a FWC Hawk for 3 years and finally got rid of it because of the condensation. We loved it otherwise, but we just couldn't deal with it having water dripping on the ceiling, walls, and wet under the mattress every morning and that is in a dry climate (Montana) and always vented at night. Final straw was a fall trip to the pacific northwest. It was cool and rainy and we had 1/4" of standing water under the mattress one morning. I thought there was a leak but it was all from condensation. I'd been following the Overland Explorer prototype CAMP-X in 2018 and they released them in 2019 so we went and took a look when we got back from that trip. After that trip, we sold the FWC and ordered a 2020 CAMP-X (similar to the CAMP-HBE in this video but a slide-in design rather than flatbed design). We've had it for over a year now and no condensation issues. For us, easily worth the extra over the FWC to not deal with the condensation and have the high end appliances.

@@MrChadx1 Dang! Thanks for the information. Great to hear from someone who has used both. 👍🏻👍🏻 Have my eye set on a Camp-HBE with an F350 SuperCrew Tremor package and a 6.7L diesel. Just need to see how the next few months go.

As I get into towing a travel trailer with my tundra and understating payload ratings, the more I realize almost every overlander is going over payload capacity for their vehicle. If there is any mod that would be useful is to upgrade payload capacity which is hard cuz that I believe can only be done at the factory.

A thought to Chris about content. You've been diligent for 4 years running to keep providing content every week. Its become your job essentially and we know you make a living at it. This came up with another content provider I follow - Bicycle Touring Pro, where he stated mid video that he was turning off the camera and was just going to finish riding his bike to Barcelona, with no video being recorded. A vacation in other words. He too had been providing content for about 4 years and he was tired. You should consider doing the same. Take a break, also known to most folks who work a more regular job, as a "vacation". I'm reasonably certain the multitude of thousands who are current subscribers will continue to tune in even if you take a break for 2 weeks. Just a thought.

I guess you didn't test drive the van before buying it to test the suspension. I think you're going to find the van is more of a glamping vehicle. It sounds like you're regretting the van when comparing it to the slide in camper.
