V12E27: Our Adventure in the Rockies

Following a two week hiatus to share adventures with my son, Cole, I'm back in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado! This episode kicks off in San Juan National Forest, where I do some exploring in the Jeep, and then I don my backpack for a rainy overnighter along a hiking trail wrought with stream crossings and waterfalls. Throughout this video, I share clips from some of the experiences Cole and I shared during his visit, including some popular mountain passes, dubious food prep, a mine tour, and a glimpse into New Mexico's backcountry.

Just returned from there doing the same thing with my 18 yr old daughter, (just graduated HS and going to college). We did Engineer Pass on Wed 7/28 and Imogene Pass from Ouray to Telluride on Friday 7/30. Got rained out and headed up to Boulder/Denver area for the weekend. Had a great time, wished we had crossed paths. We will have memories of this trip forever.

The San Juan National Forest is absolutely beautiful. It's one of my favorite places to go exploring without a doubt. I am glad you got to spend some time with your son before he begins college.

Many years ago while still living in Pennsylvania and just after my HS graduation, my dad and I took a trip to the southwestern mountains of Colorado to chase long abandoned narrow gauge railways once prevalent in that region. Wonderful area to explore and I have a lot of fond memories of that trip with dad. We didn’t have a 4WD vehicle at the time just a rental car, the next best “all terrain” vehicle… I’m sure Cole will remember your adventures together for years to come.

if you want to ride the Silverton train keep in mind it's an all day trip. 3+ hours up, and the same back. you can take a coach back to Durango if you want to shave some time off the return. it is a beautiful adventure though.

I really like this adventuring in the jeep mixed with a bit of backpacking. I use my Jeep/Ursa Minor as a base camp for backpacking trips and so this type of adventure really in your videos really appeals to me.

Best video! I lived in Durango late 90's- early 2000's. For all the years we lived in Durango when we went to Silverton we drove, and even though we never took the train it passed my home every day. I have two daughters living in Durango with there families. Many Thanks for the good footage as it bring back many memories. BTW nice to see Cole again and looking to meeting Shannon.

Durango is my happy place! My daughter attended Ft. Lewis College from 2015-2019 and visiting her there a couple times a year changed my life and priorities. Durango is why I now own a Jeep, love to fish, and started snowboarding again. Enjoy!!!!

Another element of surprising delicious is to use mayo instead of butter or oil on the outside bread. Grills up just fine and a snick different.
