Considering a good chunk of Genshin's playerbase are likely people in their late-teens or 20s, it's good that they added the whole story involving Gaming as it makes the whole thing relatable given that's roughly also the time a good amount of people would start clashing with their parents over what they want to do with their life (and also the time when they start distancing from their family because of said conflicts). All the same it also shows that there's always a way to mend things in the end no matter how bad things may look. And in the end the kite string that supposedly held Gaming back is still there, but this time he'd likely view it more as him realizing that his father would always be there to protect and support him no matter what happens.

I find it funny that this years Lantern Rite has kites as theme because "kite" in German uses the same word as "dragon". So a "dragon" can be the mythical being and a kite. And this year is the year of the dragon. Dont know if the same pun functions in Chinese or other languages

I feel like a lot of the event quests lately feel more like story quests for the 4 stars. I don't hate it but that's mostly cuz the ones I've played revolved characters I like, kaveh during the darshan thing, kiraras trip around teyvat, frem n thelxies adventure, chev in the musketeer movie, and now gaming in lantern rite. I've noticed in some videos of the entire lantern rite quest some people r complaining n say this lantern rite is boring n has no big lore bomb like last years lantern rite about guizhong cloud n ping or last windblume where they revealed the hexencircle, but to me these r just temporary quests n I feel they don't need that kind of a lore bomb so I did enjoy it. But yeah about what u said in that last part, we need more of the characters show up in this event lol, this is Charlottes 2nd time in liyue n she still hasn't met yanfei yet lol. It would've been funny too if itto showed up n mistaken Charlotte as yanfei n even call her his savior lol

Honestly, I didn't realize that trend. 4 stars usually get a hangout which can be hit or miss or tedious. But seeing them in events like this is almost similar to the treatment 5 stars get.

On that aspect, some Yaksha lore came out, how a disagreement that might look stupid between Bonanus and Menogias ended up with both killing each other, and how that affected CR to the point of not wanting that kind of regrets affect Gaming...

The reason why neuvulette was there is to start the tension between the dragon-archaic beef of neuvi and zhongli, where zhongli is purposely hiding from him. Its funny how a guy us hiding from someone who isnt activeky looking for hi.

This lantern rite event kinda hurt to watch. I lost my dad due to unseen issues that finally hit when covid was starting to put everyone in lock down in the states. That final cutscene with Gaming made me wish I could have one final talk with my dad.

As much as I loved this year's lantern rite's story, I just felt a bit iffy in one part of it. Maybe it's just a me thing but this iffy thing came from Gaming's part of the story where Paimom told others about Gaming's family problem when it's not her place to do so. Also the other characters going out of their to "force" their help on Gaming's situation without his input. I put quotations on "force" because I know they're only doing it in a kind place, however I still think that it wasn't really their business. Afterall, this is between Gaming and his father. What matters is if Gaming feel ready to confront him. That's why I was a bit scared of how they would end his story before the third act. However, I am glad to be wrong and actually enjoyed how they were able to show how Gaming's father was coming from a place of love and worry for his child as any caring parent would, even if the choice he did was wrong. I'll rate this year's lantern rite a 8/10

I actually enjoy how lantern rite is utilized to bridge what we have done and the themes for the rest of the patch. Also, as we get more lore heavy in the world/foreign politics of Tyvet, it is nice to have these location events to remind us of the community and people we have met along the way. Rather we side with Celestia, Fatui, Abyss, and now dragons, the impact of that decision will ultimately effect minor characters like Gaming and the smaller communities we have grown to love. It’s also why I love our small moment with Xiao who, in a sense, gets how disconnecting our “burden of destiny” feels from the general population or even Paimon. The symbolism of a kite staying tethered fundamentally is a message to us, the traveler, and Lantern Rite is a great way HoYo strengthens that tether. Others may not agree, but my viewpoint fundamentally comes from and MPH/Health Policy background so the balance between looking at the grander picture while acknowledging the impact policy decisions have on real people and their disparities is always in the back of my mind and the best way to make sure you are on the right path in impactful decisions is by building community with the people directly impacted. Lantern Rite and other localized events gives us that chance to build said community.

I nearly didn't finish this event due to being busy with life and burnout, but I'm so glad that I did because it really rekindled my love for the game. I actually felt a bit emotional by the end because of how relatable Gaming feels to me. At the same time, I enjoyed, laughed, and cringed at the adepti's + Shenhe's antics so much. And as a Shenhe enthusiast I loved seeing her develop as a character. She's become so much more open to humanity compared to the past, same with Xiao ❤ This is def going up on my list as one of my favorite event stories to date.

Okay I might be heavily HEAVILY biased but I really expected more Yaksha content, focus on Xiao and Menogius especially because the Mingxiao lantern was in his shape. I agree the themes should change but honestly missed the magic of last year's Lantern rite A LOT.

You may want to see more Liyue characters introduced, but that's actually the region that has the most currently available playable characters. Talent books are the quickest, not quite accurate method for scanning what region a character belongs to. Mondstadt: 18 (not including Aloy, Childe, or Lisa) Liyue: 20 (not including Kazuha) Inazuma: 16 (including Kazuha and Wanderer) Sumeru: 13 (not including Wanderer, including Lisa) Fontaine: 6 (not including Freminet, Lyney, or Lynette) Natlan: 0 (probably Bennett but unconfirmed) Snezhnaya: 4 (including Childe, Freminet, Lyney, and Lynette) Chiori will bump Inazuma to 17, Arlecchino and Clorinde will bump Fontaine to 8. Inazuma and Sumeru still have some catching up to do, we're not done with version 4 Fontaine introductions yet, and Snezhnaya has a headstart since that version is likely at the end of the game's life.

personally... i don't impressed with this year lantern rite. maybe because I don't like family drama. it can have, but to make it a core of festival is kinda too much. hangout quest for gaming? that perfectly fine. it just my opinion though, if anyone like it, that's great.

Honestly in a story with a deep lore like Genshin having some random character like Gaming who lets face it is insignificant in the grand scheme of things getting this much focus and screen time that could have been spent on others is pretty bad. Don't like to see mundane stuff getting the spotlight in a high fantasy setting

It's the mundane yet character but emotionally driven events and storylines that make Genshin have more substance that it actually does, I have no idea how you picked up a game like this and decided that the high fantasy aspect of it is its strengths

Isn't that the point? Just because the setting is high fantasy it doesn't mean all the characters have to have fantastical problems. Making the characters' problems more relatable to the audience is a good way of involving the players in some way. Besides if every story in Genshin is all focused on the lore, it'll be boring and overwhelming eventually because the players are constantly shoved with lore (no need to look further, the Fontaine world chain quest of Narzissenkreuz did receive some criticism for being too much despite me liking it). The insignificant mundane things like this serve as a breather before important lore.

@@viancajean I am not against mundane storylines, I'm against those storylines getting this much production value while far more interesting high fantasy storylines get shoved to the side. Would you rather have this or getting a quest with Diluc chasing Ursa the Drake and killing the dragon together? There are many characters that have a more epic story to them that don't get a full event like this to them.

Its great and all but honestly i would do literally anything else than have a lantern rite all those fluff events only serve as reminder how dreadfully slow and drip fed story of genshin is. Like we are halway through the Teyvat chapter and this is what we are doing with our time. Wow lion dance! Wow irrelevant 4* has family issues! I guess it's the one thing that will never change.

This is such a miserable way to look at the game considering the main core theme of the premise has always been "It's the journey, never the destination" and what's wrong with a live service game dedicating time and money for its audience to connect to its main source of content, which are the characters?
