This is cool. I'm from the states. I have a 89 pickup I did a solid axle swap on. I put a 3.4 5vze in it. I have a r150f and r151f. I wanted to make a hybrid. Pretty sweet seeing someone else doing the same

Thanks man, as you saw I ran into a few little differences, but if you have the tools and the know-how you can get around them haha but worked well in the end making use of parts I already had here

What could the cause be,after upgrade,for 2nd gear nagging whine when slowing down in gear?

I've had 5th come off because of a re-used clip, maybe the nut on 5th was a good after thought.

You and Benny are absolute legends. I've been taking on jobs I woulda never dreamed of on my 4runner with the help of your vids. Cheers! Question for ya on the 1st gear x center bearing clearances. I just pulled my r150f apart and im all the way out at 0.70 mils (max is 0.50) but according to the FSM, there are no variable size span-ring spacers to adjust the clearance. How do you correct for that? Press it tighter? replace the bearing? Thx mate.

Hey mate, I did something similar and did the r452 dyna 5th gear swap, I also converted a forward shift transfer of a g series box without the electronic 4wd motor to 23 spline input so I could convert to manual 4wd shift. It all went into a 4runner with a 1uz conversion and I can vouch that even with the v8, on 33's with 4.88 diffs and plenty of weight it's not super responsive in 5th on the highway, it sits on about 2400rpm at 110kph and I reckon the 2.4 may have struggled.
@boostedbuiltgarage3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's good to know man, I may still end up throwing the Dyna gear in, I have all the bits for it, it'll cruise ok on the flat I'd say, but any incline I reckon it'll almost always have to be back down to 4th🤔
@timothyfox84863 жыл бұрын
@@boostedbuiltgarage when I first put it in I had 4.3 diffs and it sat on 1900rpm at 100, it managed okay for a trip to the Flinders Ranges but as soon as I got back I was on the hunt for 4.88's.

Yeah well at least you have the low down torque of the 1uz, the poor 2l will be lugging hard haha. I'm 4.55 final drive and 33's

You should try installing a concentric slave. No bent forks and can let you keep water and crud out of the bell housing.
@boostedbuiltgarage3 жыл бұрын
Not a fan of CSC's. When they fail it's a pretty big PITA compared to unbolting a regular cylinder off the side of the bell housing. Been down this path before with other vehicles

The gearbox in my hzj105 just lost all gears bar 5th. I'm in the process of pulling it out now. Any ideas what could of gone wrong?
@P0LARice Жыл бұрын
G'day mate, my HZJ105 has started making a noise under acceleration in all gears except 5th. It is probably at the beginning of the same issue you had, what did you end up finding out about it?

Awesome video...any chance you can tell me if a r151f from a hzj105 will bolt up to my h55f hj61 vacuum transfer case? I’m doing a 1.9tdi vw motor into my hj61. Using a 3vze bell housing from a vr6 4 runner bellhousing & clutch.

What makes you think that?
@Lollllllz3 жыл бұрын
@@boostedbuiltgarage from what i have read around from the defunct toyotasurf.asn.au and ih8mud that the 3L cam made the 2lte breath better at higher rpms at expense of some low end torque.
@boostedbuiltgarage3 жыл бұрын
Oh righto, that's very interesting! I wouldn't be surprised, I mean I've never driven another 2L so I don't know what they're like normally, but it hauls arse from 3k up to 5k lol just like a turbo petrol engine haha

The earlier R series had the nut on the 5th gear. When I did the 5th mod I had a more recent R series out of a later model Hilux and the swap was straightforward with the only the transfer extension removed. Others that followed the post I created in Pirate had the older box and had trouble but they didn''t have the entire box apart so that might not be an issue for you. There was a discussion in the part numbers too as the ones I used (fluked getting the right ones) didn't work for them. There are differences in the syncro I recall. It's been over 6 years since I did it but have a look at the post linked below as it has a lot of comments in it now. Also as a bonus Photobucket have made he pics work again - they were broken due to a change in their hosting policy last time I checked on the post. www.pirate4x4.com/threads/toyota-r-series-gearbox-r150-r151-r452-dyna-5th-gear-swap.2000978/

Hi Bill, this is a great resource as I'm currently rebuilding my earlier model R151f (nut on countershaft) - I'm hoping you could help with some details. I need to replace the countershaft though the only one available is the later model with the circlip. I understand I would also need to replace corresponding 5th gear on the main shaft so am going to do the R452 5th swap. Am I correct in thinking that I will need the countershaft, R452 c/s fifth gear, synchro and main shaft R452 fifth?
