Enjoyed this one building a hybrid r150/151 transmission. I've been trying to figure out how to get the 1st gearset of a r154 into a r155 and it looks like that isn't possible to do, so I'll have to stay with the stump puller 1st gear in the 2013 base cab I've been working on.

Thanks very informative.Had the 2nd and 5th gear upgrade done on my R151 box,there is a nagging whine in 2nd mainly when slowing down in 2nd?When cold the whine is rather faint,but gets more audible at operating temp?Any suggestions as to the cause? Thanks.

Dap of grease will hold synchros and small balls in place...so you dont DROP THEM

You should've removed seals from the bearings. I know thay should have grease in them but would be better being oiled from box like the rest of them no?

Wish I had of taken note of the triple cone synchro arrangement when watching this. My 3rd gear was stuffed, ordered a new one, realised synchros would fit, ordered synchros, realised the selector hub was different so had to order that too. One difference with my selector hub, which from what I can tell is the only one available, as the one for single piece synchros has been discontinued, is that it only has the slots on the 3rd gear face. The other face is flat as per the original, and the synchro is a single piece. Haven't checked out the R150 to see if that is what yours was off but good to note.

I put a R151F in my surf. it came from the 06 hilux that donated it's engine. I had to modify the R150F rear housing to suit the R151F 5th gear, and also the smaller output shaft bearing. I had a ring machined to suit the smaller bearing, then we die ground the housing to fit around 5th. photos.app.goo.gl/BG4Uq9RUkK4o8daa7 Photo is of the R151F split. you can just make out the cutout where the bearing goes

Hot tip if you dont want to screw with the shift shafts and balls....You can remove input, output and counter shafts and shift forks all at once. Just remove shift fork bolts and slide the forks off the shafts as you remove the geared shafts...BUT you will need to run some kind of cleaner though the detent ball holes to wash out the dirty oil and will never get it F1 clean.....Will take 4 hands to assemble too....

Where did you get all the snap rings and do you know the factory sizes for each location
