on their website, is it the differential hanger? the part. and are there axles designed to fit in the OEM hubs, or do you need the broached hubs?

As far as I know there aren’t any aftermarket options for axles that re-use the factory hubs. However, the broached hubs are inexpensive and easy to switch out. And on their website you need the Differential Hanger and the Differential torque mount.

There’s a couple different generations of Ford 8.8’s, all of the Miata kits I’ve seen take the same specific one. All the swap kits will specify which one it needs but most are the like 94-97 Ford T-bird ones

We sourced it from a 90s Ford Thunderbird

Im assuming the 4" hole to plate measurement on front mount is 4" from hole center to edge of plate?

@@slightlyMADcustoms kool deal just wanted to make sure....but! That small detail i learned shortly after posting my last comment that the front mount wasnt right at all! It was bought 3rd hand but still "new ". Hard to tell how it got to being wrong and to someone who doesn't or hasnt messed with many custom irs swaps into random vehicles it could have ended up getn installed like it was and been a disaster for the dif chunk

This diff was pulled from a 1994 Ford Thunderbird. All of the V8 Thunderbirds from 1989-1997 came with an 8.8, but not all of them were limited slip and there were many gear ratio options.

Another interesting note is these diffs came n the lincoln mark viii as well from 93to98 and the mark viii and tbird s-coup was the only 2 cars that had an aluminum housing. Not that from a v8 or regular v6 bird or cougar would be bad to use but it would be a few pounds heavier

Would it be possible to swap a Ford 8.8 front axle into a miata? Along with a transfer case a selectable 4x4 miata would then be possible.

I suppose anything is possible but slapping a V8 into a miata is already quite the squeeze. If you managed to get a diff in the front along with the V8 you definitely wouldn’t be able to run a hood and would probably be super lifted too

@@slightlyMADcustoms I planned on widening the engine bay and car by 3"-5" as well as adding a Paco motorsports 3" lift, and some coil overs to gain more engine/ground clearance. Just for this reason .

and what gear ratio did you use and what transmission did you end up using

I am using a 3.08 rear end ratio, and I’ve used a few different transmissions. The most important thing is that you need a fairly aggressive overdrive when V8 swapping a Miata to make up for the small tire size and to maintain low cruising RPM. T56, TR6060, and CD009 are the most common options. I’m using a SBC instead of an LS engine so I have different transmission options that aren’t usually used.

@@slightlyMADcustoms ok thank you. And do you know of any sights that can help figure out what is a good combo. I am going to use a ford 302 and I was thinking of using a t5 out of a mustang with an 8.8. Still gotta do research as I’m new to this

V8 Miata’s on Facebook is a group with a wealth of knowledge. There are also some great V8 forums out there as well. And the T5 is a great option for a 302, the overdrive works well with a Miata!
