Beaucoup plus simple et sans trop forcer la transmission : un moteur de 504 surtout le 1800 cc je connaissais au moins une personne qui l'avait fait faire après une casse moteur.

L'esthétique globale de la 404 est largement imitée des Simca Chambord et Beaulieu, qui avaient un V8, une évolution d'un V8 Ford dont la conception initiale était en 1934, et avait servi sur les Matford, les Ford Vedette puis les Simca Versailles conçues par Ford et vendues à Simca avec l'usine de Poissy.

Le style de carrosserie de la 404 me semble être clairement inspiré de la Lancia Flaminia de Pininfarina de 1967. Ce thème est devenu dérivé et a été repris de nombreuses fois, peut-être plus particulièrement pour la série de berlines Farina de taille moyenne BMC de 1959, qui ressemble beaucoup à la 404. Les Vedette/Versailles/Chambord me paraissent bien plus 'américains'.

Il n'y a que les Anglais (et aussi les Américains, ici c'est un anglais) qui peuvent faire ça. En France c'est presque impossible ! (Les difficultés ne sont pas techniques mais administratives : Allez faire homologuer une telle modification par les mines est une gageure !)

Ça ne peut pas être homologué en France. C'est possible aux Pays Bas. Par exemple certains y ont monté un V6 busso Alfa Roméo dans une Matra Murena, sans problème particulier.

Without American profligacy we probably wouldn't need to go to EV. Go figure. I'l give this feller credit for a nice conversion, even though personally I like to see the 404s stay stock as there are so few of them these days. I owned a 404 in 1978 but mine was very rusty indeed and had to be scrapped.
