V8's 2013 - Winterbottom lets Whincup through pitlane, Skaife fuming

Mark Skaife is fuming after the red flag had been called out during qualifying that had cars stopped in pitlane. Jamie Whincup's rival Mark Winterbottom lets him proceed with only 2mins left on the clock to make the quickest time possible for race 10 of the V8 Supercars Championship in Perth.

I don't blame Skaife for being pumped up, I'd be furious if I was behind Winterbottom and saw that. I mean maybe one of the lower teams perhaps, but Red Bull? Whincup? The reigning champion and best team on the grid? Do you think anyone would've done this in F1 during the Schumacher era? NO!

I would say Frosty is the Mark Martin of V8 Supercars. The only difference is that Frosty won a championship. Both are all around good guys and widely popular, but not one of the greatest.

So what if Winterbottom let Whincup into the fastlane? Yes.. it IS a competitive motorrace, and yes, they are competing for a title, but truth be told, there is nothing wrong with being nice to oneanother. In the end of the day, both drivers have been racing in V8SC for ages, and they are good friends.

That's how it should be in top level professional sport. Nobody is there to finish second. That's why Skaife broke most of the records in his career, and Winterbottom did next to nothing - one lucky championship that he only got courtesy of his faster team mate Mostert writing himself off at Bathurst.

But I do agree with Skaife being furious though cause by the rules, Winterbottom certainly didn't have to let Whincup into the line at all! Even Lowndes got into the line by a courteous mercedes driver too, nothing wrong with being nice, but this is a competition! Do these drivers want to win or just wear pink tutus while driving the cars at pit speed around the track for the entire race? lol
