Good video, but Hooker headers sells a steering shaft for thr 1st and 2nd gen S10. They sell for $115. Hooker Headers Blackheart LS steering shaft.

I'm sure the jeep shaft can be purchased for much less and does the same thing as the jeep shaft

I just did this mod! My tips are! Pinch bolts are 13mm, it’s impossible to collapse the shaft while it’s still in the jeep! Your gonna have to remove the 3 17mm bolts that hold the steering gear box! Than just push the gear box out of the way! Once it’s off! You don’t need heat to separate the two half’s! Just use a heavy flat peace of steel and bang on the edge of the shaft lightly!

I use a 30 bar to put pressure on the joint. With pressure on the joint I take a hammer and tap on the slip joint. They go in every time.

Great video! I have similar sloppiness in my truck. The seal on the joint closest to the firewall has split and put oil all over the header. The video title says 1994 jeep grand Cherokee but description says 1995 jeep grand Cherokee. Was this just a typo? Which year shaft is it or are both years 94 and 95 the same out of the jeep? Going to do this upgrade over the winter most likely.
@Beowulf6275 жыл бұрын
Should also work for the GMT400 trucks, need the shaft from a 84-94 XJ Jeep Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee ZJ i believe). I think there is a safety issue using them in 97-99 trucks though.

I wonder if this modification will work on a 2002 Chevy Blazer I really don't like the rag style that it came with
@disgruntledegghead69236 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why I watched this, I already did it to my S10. It was a necessity given Ls and headers, the stock shaft was rubbing the header primary pretty hard. Super easy upgrade and yes, it works on later models as well. Mine being a 98. Just make sure the Jeep shaft is clocked correctly as there are models that won't work.
@icool2475 жыл бұрын
Jeff Knebel I have an 01 Jimmy, did you use the ‘94 shaft?
@mlone74 жыл бұрын
You are saying this came out of a Grand Cherokee but it looks like the one from a Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee one is fatter on the ends. Also when sliding the shaft in and out I found that if you take an air hammer and clamp one end in a vise and hammer on the other part, the vibration of the air hammer will loosen the most stubborn shafts.

You may want to just do a LS swap. You can make good power and probably spend less money.

Nice video and keep the good work! I have an S10 95, maybe this same modification works for her? She has a very uncomfortable sloppy movement in the steering, I actually think it's dangerous. Would the problem be on that axle or in the steering box? remembering that all parts of the suspension are new, except axle and steering box.

@disgruntledegghead69235 жыл бұрын
@@Mforxzagarcia what kind of headers? Only thing I had to clearance was the steering shaft. The stock shaft is too fat. Sound like you're running some really short headers if the steering shaft is interfering with the collector. I would ditch em before it gets too late and you run into serious exhaust routing problems.
