As a ex V8 Supercar engineer the reason for the 5K exhaust header is the cost of the titanium metal used to make the pipes as well as the many hours of hand fabrication involved to make the exhaust by Tig welding together the mandrel bends & merge collector pipes. These exhausts are a work of art when finished. Exhaust development is continual.

there is a lot of mark up on these engines. parts come thru performance wholesale. sold for f all to v8 supercar aus. then they sell parts to the teams at a very big profit...the crank is a 3 grand item, block 2500. cam 530 . they double everything and some
@aussiefirie6 жыл бұрын
Nicole Gooch V8 Supercars don't buy the parts. Each team buys them straight from the supplier or manufacturer. Seeing as the majority of parts come from the U.S, you have to convert the U.S price into the AUZD meaning the price increases, then add import tax and freight.

@FordV8Supercar These stats are from the mid-90s, but I do remember them well; Ready to run engine, $60,000, ready to run Hollinger race spec 6-speed, $50,000. The latter, you can choose your own ratios, but there's limits to how much you're allowed to mess with in the engines. A fully prepped car from Perkins (Larry's workshop) Engineering would set you back in excess of $220,000. Then there's tyres, spares, safety equipment, transport pit crews and sourcing a driver

Nick Hargrave project blueprint basically stole all the good parts off the ford Counterpart in this series(@that time)those heads were based of the canted valve ford even the block was a specialty to v8 supercars Commodore got upgraded with fords double front suspension arms and locations were shared between the cars. Ford basically got a little bit better aero..it was the start of when the cars really became to far apart from the road vehicle they were based on nothing in common was really left

The tolerances oin CAT engines are extremely tight, often assembled in surgically clean conditions. I meant that a race engine is capable of sometimes up to 9000rpm. A CAT diesel at best will rev out to no more than 4000 maximum rpm And of course, some of the larger CATs fully assembled cost more than $50,000

Nascar engines make about 900 hp at least 250 hp more than a V8 supercar and rev to 10,000 rpm. A fresh engine for each race, you need 35 new engines a year, so economy of scales would make them cheaper to build.

The new Ford GT with 5.0L alloy block S/Charged from factory has 335 kw they run 11.9 down the quarter with a flash tune on stock tyres. Are there any new japanese cars other than the R35 that will even compete? Performance wise and value for money- I think not....

It's a racing block. Not used for daily driving. Like the rest of the motor build, $1100 cams, $6000 crankshaft, etc. All are overpriced because they are specially made for racing in the Super V8 series and all to spec within regulations. Like every other race car in a major racing series, the motors easily go over $100k.

remember all, he's only putting it together for a vid. They would of stripped it down to bare block double checked all components and rebuild the engine within very tight tolerances.. i never looked into v8 super car engines, but its most likely an R07, custom made NASCAR block.. if not its most likely a billet machined aluminium R07.. prob R07 nascar heads as they dont actually come with ports, each team ports there own way.. alot of the internals would be custom designed for v8's tight rules.
