My brother bought an 88 s10 2.5 5 speed new in October 88. He had always planned on doing a 327 swap but ended up trading it off for a big block 3/4 ton 4wd square body instead.. I’ve always loved these trucks.. glad I found your channel, gave me something to watch while I’m down with the VID..

I stuck a junkyard fresh 5.3 into a 94 S10. Only changed the parts I had to for the swap. Still has the old spark plugs in it. It's been my daily driver for about six months now. Only problem I had with it was the used water pump I put on it when I did the swap started leaking. Threw on another used pump and sent it.

Had a Caballero with a vortec headed 350 and some very tall gears. It ran well and it would surprise lots of automatic 4.6 mustangs. Averaged 14mpg with a big holly. Would absolutely cruise at 90mph. Clocked at 143mph by Oklahoma highway patrol. Felt like I'd been faster in it. Still had 2100rpms left. 😅

Lol the little S10 still has 3.42 rear gears so it's done at a little over 100 at 4400 RPM but gets almost 19 mpg thanks to a good ole quadrajet... The GMC Caballero was cool... You don't hardly see those anymore! Thanks for watching!

If only I had the room here... I'm still working on getting a shop together like I had in Pennsylvania where I had built it... For the most part they go in like they were meant to be there... But there are a few special parts and some creative engineering involved...I can always answer questions and I did a series of videos on what I did to it! Thanks for watching!

I’m currently building a 2000 Sonoma with a 350 and turbo 400 what should I watch out for?
@MidnightautorepairАй бұрын
Mostly clearance... On the newer ones I'm not as sharp on the electrical but I know if your gonna retain the factory fuel tank the exhaust is gonna have to run down the passenger side..I have both pipes run down the passenger side then it branches back out to wide duals where the spare tire was... It's worth getting the V8 swap engine mounts for the block side... The frame side is usually a stock S10 2.8 V6 mount as long as they are the same mount style on the frame... Also the V8 swap headers are very worth it and cut way down on the drama of figuring out the exhaust... And a cheep 140 dollar aluminum radiator works great... Get the 3 core... They say they fit for S10 swap and C4 Corvette.... Hopefully this helps and thanks for watching!

I dunno if this has the limited slip rear, but a lot of Astro vans have 3.73 limited slips in them, so if ya see one in a bone yard, it’s worth checking out
@Midnightautorepair4 ай бұрын
It's an open diff in it... Problem with the Astros are they have the 8.5 inch 10 bolt instead of the 7.5 they put in 2wd S10s... I'm impressed it's held up this long under my right foot! I'm glad ya found my channel too and hopefully you get better from the vid soon!

What drop does that thing have…?
@Midnightautorepair4 ай бұрын
At the moment it's static 4 inch with cut coils from a 85 Monte SS and they settled to that height...I wouldn't recommend it...I have 2 inch drop spindles and 2 inch drop coils to put on it to help with a lot of the negative ride qualities cut coils gives! Rear is still stock ride height because I still pull a trailer regularly with it. Thanks for watching!

Someone gave me an 83 s15 with the 1.9 and 4 speed about a month ago. I'm still getting it streetable but I think I'll keep it stock for now for the fuel mileage but do have a 305 in a part's car for later. Would kinda like to destroke it to a 265 (5.0L down to 4.3L) and see how much fuel economy I could keep with a baby v8 built right. It would have a shorter stroke than the 1.9 so rings would last forever with the non overdrive stock gearing. Though a factory early 5 speed would have the same gearing 1-4 but with overdrive for better fuel mileage at modern highway speeds. The stock 4 speed 1.9 trucks were geared for 55mph. The later t4 transmissions had provisions in the tail housing to be converted to 5 speed before the 5 speed became the standard.
@Midnightautorepair5 ай бұрын
I really considered keeping it a 1.9 with the 4 speed but mine was at the point of needing pulled and it's really hard to justify pulling 80 HP to install 80 HP and since I'm in North Carolina...a lot of my drive is highway and honestly driving it foot to the floor everywhere sounds like a good way to hurt fuel economy... The 305 that's in mine with a quadrajet as long as I stay out of the 4 barrel I get about 19mpg and if I were to upgrade to a overdrive 4 speed instead of the 3 speed auto in it now...I could probably get 23-25 mpg out of it.... Top gear did a test years ago where they tested a BMW M5 and a Toyota Prius around a track to see what got better gas mileage... The M5 drove around the track and all the Prius had to do was keep up... Mind you that the M5 had a twin turbo V8 in it... The Prius averaged 18 mpg having the crap driven out of it trying to keep up with the BMW that was barely breaking a sweat going around... The same drive for the BMW ended up getting I think 21 mpg and the point of it all .. It's not what you drive but how you drive it...a larger engine expending a lower percentage of it's power to move the vehicle is more efficient in the long run over a small engine using a lot higher percentage of it's power to accomplish the same work is less efficient... Thanks for watching!
