Thank you for taking the time to make and post these videos. My dad is 90% SCD, Vietnam (Agent Orange), all sorts of health problems since I can remember and what we now know was severe PTSD. We've been lucky, the two VA hospitals near us have been great, at least compared to some things I've heard in other places. Even with that, there's so much confusion, so much red tape, things that logically would seem cut and dry aren't. Had it not been for my brother getting the claim started and both of us staying on top of it, making sure every i was dotted and t crossed, my dad would've gotten frustrated and given up years ago. I understand there's a backlog, and there have to be procedures in place. If we had to do it over, the first thing we'd have done was hire an attorney. He's now 100%, with additional health issues. It's a mixture of feeling grateful and mad as hell all at once, all the time. But this is where we are and I believe with all my heart that there's higher purpose in choosing to do what's right vs what's easy. Even if it takes generations to realize, it matters.

Can a care partner qualified for the DEA benefits
@alliemw2 жыл бұрын
@@monicajohnson6061 Hi Monica, are you asking about qualifying for the VA's caregiver programs? It depends on a number of things. If you think you might then it's certainly worth applying for. I'm not an expert by any means, I can only share my opinion and personal experience but I'm glad to do that. There are a few different caregiver programs and very little of it is made clear. There's an Aid & Attendance program which is an hourly rate and is paid to the Veteran who in turn pays the caregiver. I'm not sure if it covers a full 40 hours per week. There's an unpaid caregiver program that's easy to join. Although it's not compensated, if you're actively caring for a Veteran then I think it's definately worth joining for the support that's available from other caregivers. They'll also train you to be a Caregiver mentor if that interests you. It's a very supportive group regardless of what program or level you're classified as. If you search the VA's website, you'll most likely find the one that's what many people tend to believe is the only program. It's the one with a monthly stipend and can include CHAMPVA insurance. Even that program has more than one level. That program was once limited to post 9/11 caregivers but opened up in the last few years to include any era. When that happened, it appeared they were suddenly bombarded with applications and unable to take the time needed to process them, and instead approved ones that didn't qualify. Now they're going back over them with magnifying glass and I've seen a few get cut that clearly shouldn't have been. The downside is the same as what I've seen with VA benefits, it's either overdone or under what it should be. Of course politics plays into it which removes the human element. Then theres the blame game and no one wanting to take responsibility for what caused us to need military caregivers in the first place. I'd start with your local VA Caregiver Coordinator. Each VA facility should have one on staff. They can give you details of which program you'd most likely qualify for and explain why, so that you don't waste time applying for the wrong one. They'll help you if you'll be patient and understanding with them. It can be frustrating but I've yet to meet one that hasn't been overloaded with work and doing the best they can. It's sad to see what was once considered one of the most noble jobs that existed, to serve your country, lose that nobility. But I see struggles, those that seem to have been left behind, far more often than I see honor. I think it's fair to say that as hard as a soldier fights, they should plan to fight that battle twice. *And a VA-approved attorney with an unjaded, idealist heart who hopes to help others above all else is always a good idea. They aren't free, but they're worth what they charge.

The VA granted a pension of $1449 one week before he became paralyzed. Lasted only 5 months he died five months later. They sent me one check after his death. And when I informed them of his death. They sent me three different type of forms to apply for the things you guys talked in the video. I was married for 18 years. Lived with him for almost 20 years. He had appointments to the Examinations for the future claims. He never was able to attend the appointments as he was hospitalized. After his death I found out he sent months before a claim for dependency. The VA paid for Aid Attendance Home Service 4 times per week. I spent hundreds of dollars in Uber to travel to the hospital. I rent a hoyer lift because the doctor here refused to gave us one. Etc etc. This is the first time I've tell my history online. I feel like rant. May not be the right place. But! Who cares. I'm 100% P&T. Just wanted to add that ChampVA allows your spouse to see whatever doctor they want really, but does have deductibles for a few things and doesn't cover dental (why?). Your spouse can however go to a VA center and get much of their care completely free there, except dental. For example, my wife gets her meds using the meds by mail program from the Detroit regional center. ChampVA covers in other countries, and as far as we've experienced so far, seems to be easier to deal with than the Foreign Medical Program. Just FYI.

I hadn't put it on him, it was in my purse. ADA doesn't require a vest. 2. Demanding to see shot records, my service animal had his current shot tags on his collar 3. Demanding state proof of his "service animal " status. There is not no such of "proof" ..state registration does not exists in Colorado Next: security officer stated I could go out online and purchase "registration " for $70. So, false paperwork is ok? Do you have any advice about applying for SSDI? Why would Social Security not review a veterans medical record and then come to the conclusion that you are going to receive SSDI? If a veteran is found fully disabled unemployable because of a service connected physical injury, the VA then says you are truly disabled apply for SSDI. But how can SSDI then deny the veteran? Social Security used the wording stating "We believe you are able to have gainful employment and by our standards are NOT Disabled.". The VA uses many medical personnel to review medical documents before making a decision. But Social Security didn't use a medical professional. So how can Social Security make a correct decision? Why do you think Social Security would go against the decision that their Government cousin has made? Also how can someone truthfully say that a structurally damaged individual with many other medical issues can have gainful employment? The veteran in question has nerve damage throughout. Cant stay in a single position for long periods of time, has cramps that can come out of nowhere, severe pain and then numbness and tingling aswell. So with the structural damage to a person's body paired with everything else I've listed and some i have not listed... what place of employment is going to work around that? What place of employment is going to allow a veteran to randomly not come in because of how the severity of it all differs day to day? Only places that would work around that would be places where the veteran be talked about is in a high position in the company. Board members, ceo... etc. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Lani Lias Aid and Attendance is when you need the assistance of another for basic daily tasks...like showering, medication, going to the bathroom...any number of daily kind of tasks that you cannot do yourself.

But to qualify for SMC your injury must be service connected! However the standard caregiver program does not have to be service connected illnesses.
@TheDonna19594 жыл бұрын
SMC is Special Monthly Compensation. It is additional money given to veterans that qualify. It is extra above what a veteran would recieve besides their VA disability payments. For more info, look up SMC on the VA official website.

My husband was 100% veteran disabled and past away service connected condition. We had grandson we had been raising . We had full custody as of 2010 and my husband past away August 2014. I was told by Veterans office where I applied for DIC that grandson could not receive anything due to husband did not adopt him. Then I found out from a another grandmother which was in August 2016 that I could adopt him then he could get benefits. I was not told this by VA . I applied and started the adoption . But was turned down because I did not adopt him within 2 years of the death. Please if you could help me let me know. Also this needs to be in handbook or supplied to the widow because there are more grandparents today raising grandchildren. Thank you

My individual disabilities total 240% but my combined rating is 100% plus I get a SMC. I have multiple blood cancers and gene mutations (Camp LeJeune contaminated drinking water). These blood cancers are not curable absent a stem cell transplant. I will be on chemo for the balance of my life or until my blood cancers mutate to full blown Leukemia at which time I will have go undergo a stem cell transplant if I'm a candidate at the time. My wife drives me to my doctor appointments and travels with me to Sloan Cancer Center. So is my wife entitled to care giver benefits? She currently has CHAMPVA insurance.
