Most interesting and informative Dr. Martinez; thank you. My three eight year old felines get regular checkups, usually every two years to protect their health then, visits with the Vet as needed, if needed. Be well.

2 of my rescues came to me with URI. A couple months after we got rid of the URI I noticed they both had gingivitis. I've had cats for over 20 years and never knew the URIs were caused by those 2 viruses and that those viruses can wreck havoc on their little bodies for years. I've had to be diligent with teeth cleanings for them since they have the reabsorptive lesions which I believe are caused by those viruses.

Hi Dr. Martinez, What needle gauge did you use or recommend for vaccinating kittens and pups?

I am 90% sure that two of my three cats have rhinotracheitis. One in particular has chronic flares that cause sneezing and stuffiness. He has little scars around his eyes as well. Would it make any sense at all to vaccinate either of them against herpes and calicivirus?

I heard you mention that you were checking to see if the kitten had crust in her nose. My cat has had crusty stuff in her nose since I got her. Is this a sign of a virus?

mine are all infected and I can't find vaccines.

My cat has feline herpes. He came from the shelter so probably got it there. Fortunately none of the other cats ever got it. He has constant runny nose and when stressed out can develop a swollen eyelids on his left side. He also gets feline acne from eating even once from plastic bowl so he just has a delicate system.

Torticole sounds really awkward for a girl cat. My roommie's new kitten brought home coccidia. How do you treat it?
@DrGregDVM8 жыл бұрын
Sulfa drugs

you don't, unless there is clinical illness (diarrhea) present.

Aren't you concerned about fiss by injecting in the scapular area? In NY we wouldn't be caught dead injecting vaccines anywhere other than the hip area.

This applies to every single vaccine or just certain ones?
@DrGregDVM8 жыл бұрын
I am more concerned with older cats. The first vaccines in younger cats aren't as likely to lead to vaccine induced sarcomas. Sounds like a good topic for a video. We are really cutting down on vaccines as we find that immunity last for 5-7 years

I am talking about the respiratory viruses. Feline leukemia is also very important to vaccinate for.

Same here in PA. We give vaccs in cats that way as a precaution, too. Doc, please do a video on this. Not so much for my cats, but I have been doing distemper titer testing for my 3 dogs for the past 6 years. Their antibody levels have been good enough that have not had to vaccinate for distemper.

+ZombieMommy I work in a integrative holistic practice. We rarely do anything other than rabies and distemper/ parvo and we highly recommend titering for all three after the second year of vaccines.

My kitten i got from the shelter had kettle cough and they sent me home with medicine I would give him everyday for 14 days but he still has runny eyes and crusty nose. Should i take him to get more medicine? What could it be?
