I had this fitted today and will have to wear it for 8 weeks to heal my ruptured Achilles’ tendon . Looks like a good bit of kit, very sturdy and professional I think they are about £300 to purchase in Uk 🇬🇧

@James Cooper yes that’s right thank God for the NHS, mine was also free but I was just saying that they are about £300 to buy . I believe as the weeks go by the hospital call you in and adjust the incline of the foot by gradually decreasing the angle of the foot in increments . If you look closely there’s a plastic key fitted into it that they adjust the mechanism with 👍

@James Cooper Just had one fitted today! Just like yourself, the hospital have said they'll call me back in 4 weeks to adjust the angle, then again 2 weeks after that. I'm scared of taking it off even to just wash as knowing me I wouldn't be able to put it back together 🤣

I am on NHS, but only got given the Aircast which you can barely walk in! I have just ordered vacoped for for £250

@James Cooper My doctor was a bit vague about whether I should be adjusting it myself but I've heard other people like yourself say we should be doing it ourselves. I'm gonna attmept it I think. Been over two weeks with it now and can (awkwardly) walk on it without crutches.

Hey, ruptured my right achilles two weeks ago. The boot was causing a lot of swelling, pain and discomfort from the heat. Found that removing the boot and resting the foot angled down and sideways on a pillow when working during the day eliminated all these issues. However, slightly unsure if this is okej or if it may affect the healing process, could not find anything on it online. So, my question is, is this a sensible thing to do. I'm still using the boot when sleeping and when moving around. Thanks

Can you walk without crutches using this?
@OPEDInternational3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, but you only should if your doctor allows you to do so. This depends on the treatment, your injury and healing process. Too early weight bearing can be harmful! So please speak to your treating doctor.

Yes if the doctor is ok but not very pleasant :-)

@@OPEDInternational Not sure how you're meant to walk on it when it's set at the initial 30 degree angle though. I found myself almost doing the splits to get my foot on the floor when it was at that angle!

Am I ok to take my foot out of this to give it some air each day
@OPEDInternational5 жыл бұрын
Hey, sure! As long as the leg is safe/stable, for example when you're laying on the couch. But the most important part is: you have to be fully conscious - so no sleeping in! ;-)
@Dekkiller933 жыл бұрын
@@OPEDInternational Does this mean you should not sleep without it on? Or with it on?
@OPEDInternational3 жыл бұрын
@@Dekkiller93 Always sleep with it on! Think about it like this: VACOped is like a cast, just more comfortable and you can remove it to wash yourself, go swimming and/or get your wounds checked. During your sleep you can't control your movement, so if you are out of the VACOped you have no wound/bone protection. At a later stage in your healing process there is the possibility to sleep without the VACOped BUT this has to be allowed by your doctor. He's the only one who can clearly say if it's okay for you. Hope this helps!
