I'll bet it is. Maybe you're keeping things stiff or tensed or flex, and the calf muscles plus the ancillary muscles are tight. I overstretched to get rid of Planters Faciitis, and I got rid of it in less than two weeks. But stretching like heck over pulled everything else. I did the same thing with a shoulder that was massively inflamed. Got rid of the pain in two d as ts. But I stretched so much, the tendons and ligaments of the traps, felt worse. And the shoulder, couldn't lift before stretching, so that's how bad the trap stuff was. I don't think tendons and ligaments get much blood flow, so I guess that's a healing problem. And calves are so dense and strong, it can probably tear anything it wanted lose. Hey! Hope you're doing okay. Moderation and being careful seem to be the key. Maybe next time you can remind me, and I or my SO will remind you. Ok?

Sounds like peroneal nerve irritation to me. My fibia is hypermobile, I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, it causes my rib/fib joint to be unstable and causes irritation at the top of my fibular head. In turn, I get pain behind my knee, down the leg and into my heel along the peroneal nerve. Using KT tape at the ankle and tib/fib joint helps. I would recommend a nerve conduction test, called a EMG, to confirm my suspicion.

Me, too. A Dr the other day said it too. I know what XXX XXXX Planters is. I got this by over stretching my foot to get rid of the PF. For me, it's almost an instant cure. But this XXXXXXX DR wanted to put me in a walking boot. I said he wasn't listening to me and I showed him I'd cut the entire back out of my right shoe. Can't hardly wear socks. I just said thank you for your time and walked out. Receptionist said something, but I was so xxxxxx, I didn't stop for a moment. Are you doing OK, now. I guess moderation and being aware are gonna be my keys once this heals. I'm ice packs on and off and on, etc, every other night. And my open back shoes are taped under the shoe and up to my calf, and then wrapped around below the calf with more tape. Wrapping the calf with layers of masking tape was better than the duct tape. A wet towel around it turns the paper into muck. Sh a Ving my ankle THE 2nd DAY helped, too. Best of luck in the future with this. It's both a big and a lousy club to be a member of. For me, it's as bad as the marriage club I'd joined. TWICE!!

I even cut the back of my shoes off, down to the inside of the sole. Tnen i brought duct tape up from the bottom of the shoe and taped it up close to the calf, and lightly wrapped it with tape to keep it up. A little relief, but im at about six weeks. I typically get heel bursitis when I run with overly cushioned running shoes. When I heel strike, the additional cushioning comes up and puts pressure on the bursa. Frustrating because as a heavier, hybrid athlete, my knees could really benefit from high stack shoes.

@denisemartin3603 Primarily training in a pair of Saucony Ride 16 wides. Still a bit of persistent pain in my right heel after long runs, but it's manageable. I tried to go with a lower profile shoe, but my knees were really feeling it, so this is the best compromise I could come up with.

@RatigansIsland Yeah, it always hurts the most when I haven't moved for a while. I'm doing a bit better with it these days. It was diagnosed as insertional achilles tendinopathy. This sounds like an insertional achilles problem. I have this, and walking on the flat was OK, walking uphill got really painful and calf stretches were really painful on the back of the heel. I also had plantar fasciitis and the recommended exercises to fix PF include calf stretches and toes stretches. It turns out these exercises really irritated my insertional achilles pain (a pain at the back of the heel as described in this video). I'm on the road to recovery by focussing on the achilles insertional problem first by doing heel raises and holds on flat ground. (Not off a step). Yes I do. I'm still trying to figure out what it is as well and my heel has only started bothering me within the last 3 days. The pain is only on my left foot. First it started on the very bottom of my heel and hurt on and off but now that's gone and it's moved to the back of my heel and since last night I can't put any weight on it currently. I can hardly walk properly. Really frustrating. The pain is the worst standing up after sitting or resting for a period of time. I'm wondering if it's my work shoes that need better insoles because my job requires me to be on my feet all day.
@AkaMavrick4 ай бұрын
@@mh.blue_swish25this is exactly my problem too! Excpet mine has been going in for a year. I went to my doctor, and a foot specialist, came back with a large xray bill and told "there's nothing there. Try better footwear" My job also requires me to be on my feet 8 - 10 hours a day, stationary with little bits of walking back and forth. I invested in shoes with insoles picked out specifically for my feet and even had my feet scanned to help find the perfect sneakers and insoles. That helped about 10% of the pain. But it's after sitting down for even 10 minutes and standing back up is when the pain is almost unbearable on the back side of my heel, and now bottom center of my heel.. Litterally to the point that I cannot walk and I have to hobble or crawl to get where I need to, once i move around a little it's a tiny bit better to where I can gimp around on my tip toe. And it's only in one foot. I've given up with it. Nothing helps either, ice doesn't help, I've tried compression socks, everything. The only thing that takes the pain away is Aleeve. But I don't like to take any painkillers very often. It's becoming quite an issue honeslty.

@@mytwocents27 Unfortunately no. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s bursitis or was with a strong connection with gout. I think I have both.. the little sac on the back of my heel is inflamed and protruding on my heel, like it looks like a lump. And it’s been hurting to walk, and to hold my foot straight up. Started hurting bc I got agitated one morning and chased after my cat while playing with him
@OrthoEvalPal Жыл бұрын
Many people can have both. An open backed shoe for a bit can help. I also like to use compression like a compression sock or KT tape.

I don’t think there is a particular brand that helps this particular situation. Anything that does not rub the back of the heel would be beneficial.

Im so confused and, at this point, frustrated as well. During a run roughly 2 months ago, i had pain in my heel and had to stop .. I've had achillies issues before on this foot, so I assumed it was that. But the pain and location were slightly different, plus the irritation has not relented. It has not gotten worse either, but because of this, i began to think it was a calcaneus fracture or bruise since there is dull pain when i press at a particular area. However, after listening to this video, i can say i experience the pain most when pusing through my toes during my walking stride, so that seems to be achillies from what I've just listened to. After 2 months with no improvement in the pain or irritation, im starting to think I'll never run again. I know that might sound a little over the top, but running is so important to me that im starting to fear the worst. I can walk with minimal pain but not zero pain.

Hi Garrett, Have you seen an orthopedic specialist and tried PT. Very common issue to treat conservatively.

What about long drives where the Achilles tendon is compressed into the left heel for a long time? Feels like an adhesion separating or peeling away. Happens often after sleeping on back with the foot in plantar flexion as expected under the covers.
@OrthoEvalPal10 ай бұрын
When driving, I recommend putting the foot flat on the floor and to move it often if possible. I have all of my plantar fascia and Achilles patients use a sheet or towel and pull the toes back before putting the feet on the floor in the morning. Most have much less pain with the first couple steps. Could also try a night splint. These can be very helpful. Here is a video I did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHiumIOsbd50gLM

You could. Very hard to tell without seeing you.

so, in general, with Spasticity from stroke, would a shoe be better than barefoot, nad a hightop style better than ankle high? i usually go barefoot with no pain, but have been walking a LOT recently and my achilles just started hurting when i walk. not red not swollen not the heel. if anyone could answer i would appreciate it v. much, tu

With bursitis will it always be super inflamed, red and noticeable? My heel sometimes is a little swollen but when I look up pictures it definitely does not look like that. I'm leaning more towards Achilles tendinitis because of the pain when flexing/walking.
@OrthoEvalPal3 ай бұрын
Exactly! The tendon will hurt more with a stretch or contraction where the bursa will hurt more with pressure on it
@BKseaside Жыл бұрын
Is it possible to have both at the same time? Definitely have the swelling of the bursa and also the discomfort in the Achilles especially when navigating any stairs. It’s been 20 months and just now most of the pain is gone and I’m back running low mileage. Hopefully the last of the swelling will go down.

Yes. Could definitely have both

I've posted this my post under another but will dobit one more time here also in hopes it can help someone: I got heel bursitis (from hard bed) and achilles tendonitis from doing one leg calf raises, it was aggravated also by walking 3 hours non stop with worn sneakers (bottomed out heel area; heel lower than forefoot=tendonitis, also called sneakers/flip flops-tendonitis) and high sodium intake (sodium blocks potassium which leads to stiff muscles, and perhaps disturbs in other ways the collagen). It wouldn't heal until i decided to 1. take every other day as resting day (tendons need one-two extra days to replace the weak collagen type 3 to weight bearing collagen type 1 cells) 2. Eat citrus fruit with peels (with cashew nuts, or raspberry-orange, for better taste), more effective c-vitamin in my opinion than only eating pulp 3. Use comfortable anti-heel spur insoles in my worn sneakers but also in new shoes. Also put on indoors flip flops. I put thin ones below the regular insoles for comfort 4. Important. A. Custom socks for indoor and outdoor use made with cut garment pieces/strips (from other socks, 15cm long, 8cm wide) sewn, consisting of 2-3 extra layers, around the heel area like a U-shape from bottom of foot up to achilles tendon/ankle of custom loose socks to make walking softer (much thicker heel). B I even sleep with them on so my heels are healing with soft cushion during 8 hours of sleep. C Don't use two tight socks on one foot (for extra cushion or warmth) because it causes compression on the heel which irritates it. D If it is cold, or not, weather i also put a cut out piece of wool garment in my shoes where the heel is for extra support and warmth for blood circulation. 6. Of course no more single leg calf raises (or double leg if it hurts) 7. Get NEW shoes if old worn out ones are causing the pain. The heel area is sunken like an old bed.

I am a cabin crew for 8 months , and This pain appeared after 3 months . I wear Derby type of shoe and I was wearing sports shoes before. During flexion with extended knee there is no pain , But if i bend down with flexed knee with heel on the ground than there is a sharp pain at posterior heel . During squat heel not touch to the floor than there is no pain. If i touch my heel on the ground than sharp pain appear. What is it ?

I've been getting pain on the outside of my heel when I run. It starts after about a mile and then goes away at about the 2 mile mark. It doesn't seem to be plantar fasciitis b/c I am not having pain at the PF attachment on the underside of the heel. Could this be caused by achilles tendonitis or some other achilles related situation like tight calves?
@OrthoEvalPal8 ай бұрын
Yes that could be. Could also be a lateral plantar nerve issue but that would continue to get worse. If your calves are tight, you might be overloading the outer heel.

I live in flip flops and my achilis tendon is swollen and painful so today my blood work came back as having gout. High levels of uric acid but I don't get it, it's not a joint. Can you please explain this to me? I'm on meds now and I do have arthritis

Ok, what can I also do to fix the problem? It’s going on 4 months now, I seen two different doctors. They are telling me you’re fine, but I’m still in pain. I need to get back to work fast. I can’t bend my foot all the way, when I try to my achilles and my heel hurts to much. I been limping since it all started.

You left out another potential source of pain: a Haglund's deformity. I had pain in my left heel for years and it didn't go away until after I had surgery to remove my Haglund's deformity.

I did what he's talking about by overstretched my foot to relieve Planters Faciitis. I discovered it yrs ago. I guess I overdid it. I took sneakers and shoes and cut out big pieces of the back. It's helping with the pain at the Achilles Heel, but not on the bottom of the foot. Been over a month. Planters disappeared in days. No improvement on the tendinitis. Hey! I hope you're doing better. Maybe a smidgen of what I said can help you avoid a bit of this in the future. I was lost as how to treat it. I'm hoping he provides an answer here. Again, hope you're all heeled up. I actially had a Dr tell me it was also Planters and wanted to order me a boot. I said, I can't even put on a sock, and you want me wearing a boot. I said good bye and thanked him for seeing me. Payment was not made, and I called my ins Co. No idea what they did.
