Deep clean your vacuum with me. In this video, I take apart my Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuum to give it a much needed deep-clean. I completely disassemble my Dyson Ball Vacuum to get to all the hidden dust, fur, and hair.

You forgot to clean the HEPA exhaust filter, which should be done every month to every three months if used weekly - in addition to everything else you did. It maintains the cleaning and filtration performance and greatly extends the life of the unit. HOW TO clean the HEPA exhaust filter: 1.) In the final image of your video - look at the side of the "ball." The purple center actually holds the grey exhaust filter housing cover onto the ball, and is something you turn by hand like a screw, and it comes off. You can then pull the grey cover off, and then twist the filter off. You should see notches where it locks into place, and notches that you can turn it to that will then allow you to pull it off. Lay it gently on it's side to do this. If you are doing this on hard flooring or outside, lay it on its side on a thick towel to avoid scratches. So now what? 2.) Tap it in the trashcan outside to get surface dirt off, and if possible, blow it out with an air compressor. This will get out a most of the fine particles caught within the filter's pleated material. Washing alone can permanently lock the particles inside the material by making the particles sink deeper into the web of fibers. I like to take the air compressor to the dust bin and other parts of the vacuum as well. It makes it much easier to clean. >> IMPORTANT: Do this while wearing glasses, and a facemask to avoid inhaling the bacteria and other hazardous particles.) 3.) Rinse under cold water, and let dry for 24-48 hours. Avoid warm and hot water as it will degrade the material a bit each time it's used. TIP 1: I like to soak mine in the sink for 5 to 10 minutes after rinsing in a dilution of 1gal cold water and a minimal amount of original Pine-Sol; which fyi is the only Pine-Sol product classified to be a 99.99% disinfectant. It makes the air coming out of the vacuum smell fresh & clean as well as disinfects it. It also helps to break down any oils or non-water soluble soiling. >> IMPORTANT: Rinse again with cold water thoroughly afterward IF you do this step to get the detergent out. Do not use bleach, oxi-clean, laundry detergent, or anything else that leaves a residue. A minimal amount of a certified, disinfecting all-purpose cleaner is ideal. TIP 2: If possible, use filtered water in this process as it reduces the mineral build up and will reduce hard water deposits drying on and in the filter material. I find that setting it in front of a fan will dry it off within 2-3 hours, but if you let it air-dry on its own it could take 1-3 days (manufacturer-recommended) depending on the humidity level of the environment it is set to dry in. 4.) When reinstalling the HEPA filter, make sure the rubber seal in the ball and on the filter itself is free of particles, and that it fits snugly within its notches and is turned to its locking position, as well as the filter cover and cover screw-lid. After you put the cover back on, and the purple hand-screw/lid is screwed back on, turn the wheel on the ball to make sure it turns easily. Your suction & airflow should be restored, any fowl odors should be gone and the air coming out of it should smell very clean - if you do this in addition to everything else you did in the video. Wipe down the exterior of the machine to make it look new again. Air compressor blow-off prior to wipe down is a good idea. WHEN TO REPLACE THE LIFETIME “WASHABLE” HEPA FILTER: If you go too long without cleaning the HEPA filter, it develops a foul odor, has any tears in it, is discolored, is old, has been through warm water, or you still notice a lack of performance after cleaning the filter(s) - replace it. Apply this same rule-of-thumb to the pre-motor filter. Discoloration and/or fowl odors mean the filter has too much fine particulate matter, bacteria and other harmful particles embedded within the material. A heavily clogged filter can cause a few bad things to happen: A. a rupture in the whole-system seal causing massive amounts of hazardous particles to leak during the machine's use B. over-heating motor - can cause fire. C. loss of cleaning performance - causing it to leave hidden/embedded dirt behind in carpet, floor crevices, etc. D. foul odors FILTER REPLACEMENT OPTIONS: OPTION #1 - Genuine Dyson Filters are expensive, but average for the level of performance they provide. They are true-HEPA13 air filter, which is the absolute best type of air filter available on the market. If you want or need truly clean air, have allergies, immune system issues, asthma, COPD, kids, or simply want things to be sterile, do not compromise here. Get the real deal. They are $59 on the Dyson website. Find and click replacement parts (or accessories), click your model, click type of part, scroll down to HEPA exhaust filter. It is recommended to replace the brush roll and pre-motor filter as well at some point. Replacing those items with the HEPA filter will make your Dyson perform like a brand new one. OPTION #2 - Amazon generic. The generic replacement filters on Amazon for the Ball Animal II are about $10 - $20 bucks and come with 2 sets - 2 HEPA exhaust filters and 2 premotor filters, both of which are intended to be replaced together if replacement is necessary. These filters are much more affordable, but they are low-quality. They do not filter nearly as well as the genuine Dyson true-HEPA13 filters do, they deteriorate faster when washing and some users even reported them to put off strange odors right out of the box. However, the benefit is that they can be replaced frequently for cheap so you’d always have a relatively new filter in the machine. If it doesn’t filter well, though, what is the point in cleaning with the machine if it’s just going to blow dust back into the air and stir up allergies. If you have pets, the wet dog smell will definitely occur a lot sooner with this option vs the genuine option. You should wash the filter before it gets to that point, though, and if it does get there you should replace the filter - as stated above. I have nothing better to do at this time than to provide some helpful tips to you so if you’ve made it to this point, thank you for reading this. It is a long post, but I intend for every word to offer something to you. In a nutshell: replace the filter if it looks or smells bad, and use the genuine Dyson filter option if you can. Replace the pre-motor filter with it and the brush roll as well if you can. Brush roll should be replaced every 2 to 3 years.

In addition to just rinsing, get an old toothbrush to scrub the tiny or hard to get at sections. Also, if you watch videos on how to unclog or improve the your vacuum’s suction you will find other pieces that are easy to get off for cleaning. Lastly, do not forget to clean the filter in the ball off the vacuum. Since you had not cleaned your vacuum for two years that filter will be filthy. That filter is easy to get at. Just turn the black piece on the side of the ball. It comes off to reveal the filter. Then, you have to press it to the side and twist to release it. The only way you can clean the filter is to run it under the tap, and then let it dry for 24 hours, like you did with the other filter. 24 hours is important because the filters have to be completely dry before using your machine again

There is another filter you should and can clean. It is the HEPA filter on the side of the ball portion. Just rinse it in cold water and let it dry for 24 hours.

Oh my god! You absolutely don't have a clue what you're doing. The cyclone should not be cleaned like this and you SHOULD NEVER POUR WATER ON CLEANER HEAD. There are electrical connectors there and a small motor. Bearings are going to get rusty now.

@@LoveAnastassia It has been six months. Does your Animal Ball 2 still function properly? The reason for asking is because I want to rinse my cyclone under a faucet.

Still works just fine. I was pretty careful at how I rinsed it, I tried not to get it too wet, and I had it air dry under the summer sun for most of the evening.
