One of my favorite machines. I collect Kirby and Electrolux for the most part but have not been sticking to that...... My childhood vac was a Classic that my parents bought new in 1972. It did have the Shag Kind Comb but they never used it as they didn't shag carpert but thick pile green carpet back in the day. They still have the machine as the upstairs family room vacuum so it is semi retired now. Need to restore mine. The sound of that machine brings me back to my early days of being obessed with vacuums. As well my grandma's (Dad's side) rebuilt 1205 Electroluc they bought in 1986 that I got when she passed.

The classic is the first Kirby model I saw, it’s what got me into Kirby’s. My uncle owns one that was originally my Grandparents’s vacuum from when he was a kid, it’s had one motor replacement and somehow still has the original bag and doesn’t leak dust.

Several years ago I stopped at an Estate sale. They had a Kirby Classic Omega complete with boxes of all available attachments (Including buffer, sander, polisher, etc.). Most attachments never used. Vacuum just needed a belt. $35 for everything. I still have it as a collectable. They are an extremely rugged vacuum, and beautiful to look at when polished up. Great video. Thanks for sharing!

Man I just love the old Kirby’s my Classic III is completely factory original it even still has the pot metal fan in it! Which I really love the way it sounds and shuts off I wouldn’t sell it or trade it for the world! I just bought a Diamond edition at a yard sale for 5$!! Works perfectly I have semi retired the Classic because I want to keep it in good running condition for as long as possible! My Mimaw had this same machine as well! I do like the wood finish!

Also, this is the last model that Jim Kirby produced. I’m sure he would be thrilled to see how well his company is doing, with the Avalir Platinum having its debut this year

I think the Clssic 1-Cr was the first 6amp motor - the D80 was 5 I beleive. Probably my favourite user Kirby at the moment, I have three of them , two restored, one not. I don't like dunp bags so my user sports the original emtor but with a G4 bag and hepa setup. The 1-CR is the last "all metal" Kirby.
