Another elderly DC04 fixed thanks to this clear and straightforward video.

HI Alex. This was a great tutorial which helped immensely in changing the clutch in my 18 year-old DC04. I guess common sense should have told me that the old belts would have stretched, but the new ones were so much smaller that the brush bar was not even long enough to stand up through the footplate hole - I had to thread a piece of cord through it before replacing the plate and pull it through that way to get the hook of the belt lifting tool through it. Then what an effort to hook it round the pegs! Anyway, job done and the loud grating noise from the old clutch has gone. Thanks again

It has been a while since anyone commented, but the video just helped me fix my DC07. The thing has a whistle to it now and that brush bar is unstoppable. It hasn't picked things off the carpet, like it does now, for a long time. By far the hardest part was to get the belt on the brush bar - the belt tool fixture didn't quite fit, so I used one knob on it and finagled it the rest of the way with the belt pry tool That new belt is something extremely tight. Thanks for the video tutorial!

Hah yea including the bloopers is my wifes idea. There are normally a few warm up attempts. I launched into one the other day and started out by saying what I would normally when I answer the phone :) Good Morning VacuumSpot this is Alec....

Thanks so much for this. I've just finished using this video to help me replace the clutch and belts in my old DC04, and it's hugely improved. But a warning for other viewers (for the knob removal at around #02:00): note that on some models (mine's a 1999 DC04 Absolute), the end of the clutch is the same colour plastic as the clutch knob that you actually need to remove. (In this video the end of the clutch is black and the knob is yellow.) On mine, *both* were yellow, and so looked to be one part, so I ended up inadvertently trying to pry the end of the clutch off rather than prying the knob off. That broke the end of the clutch, but happily, of course, I was replacing the clutch anyway, so it wasn't a problem. Just thought I'd mention it in case somebody tries to take off the clutch off an older model in one piece! (On those models, the knob also looks slightly different: it has a black spot rather than a pointer.)

I've had to do several repairs to my old DC01, but not quite to that extent. It's now relegated to our backup/upstairs hoover but a permanent resident on the landing!. They should build houses with upstairs broom cupboards.

Hi, vert good demo but just wondering why you would need to do this (you did not specify the fault) would you replace the clutch belt if the brush roller is not spinning?

My dc04 has a thin metal bar which seems to stop the belt coming off the motor spindle, just to the right ,on screen, of the thin belt at about 4:25. It's a bugger to refit but I can't see one on yours. Is it necessary? great vid, very useful.

Hi There, You know I actually don't know why they become brittle only that it is pretty easy to crack a bit of the plastic off (yes I have broken a few over the years) requiring a new head piece. I suspect that the plastic is simply not reinforced or wide enough at the point of pressure.

The cylinder box where all of the dust goes on my dc04 vacuum cleaner for some strange reason won’t come off can you advise?
@andythehedge9 жыл бұрын
Yes if the brush bar is not spinning then you would need to inspect the clutch and the belts, if the belt is broken then you could change the belts or replace the entire clutch. Either way this video shows how to get to the clutch

The belt tool we actually have listed on our website vacuumspot(dot)com(dot)au I dont think it has a picture but I will try and sort that out soon
