Vader couldn't use force lightning because he didn't have real hands, but prosthetics. According to Darth Bane, force lightning is one of the abilities associated with the living force and, accordingly, the living flesh of the force user. Sidious has nothing to do with Vader's inability to use some force abilities

It's not that he has an atttachment to him, it's that he fears him. Shortly after Revenge of the Sith, Vader, mad about Padme's death started Force crushing everything and then force choked Palpatine and when he stopped force choking him (even though he should've have continued to kill Palpatine), Palpatine used force lightning on him and warned him to never try to harm him again or he would finish what Obi-Wan didn't (basically, he would kill Vader).

I might be misremembering since I only heard about it in jr high back in the early 2000's, but wasn't there also a time he used it to kill a bunch of bounty hunters? A friend told me about a comic where he and Boba team up against a group of bounty hunters and when they start drowning the two in numbers, Vader unleashed Force Lightning on them.

Vader actually does use Force lightning on some rare occasions it's just a different version what he does is he creates a force storm over his opponent's head which shoots lightning down on top of them. it's pretty much the same thing palpatine does in battlefront where he has that like black swirling Storm clouds around him I'm pretty sure it's just called force storm or some s*** like that.

Truly Sidious messed up Vader's suit in purpose to never use force lightning, and second, i confirm (someone mention it here) in order to use forces lightning requred living flesh(vader doesn't have hands). I think the more I hear people opinion on this the more significant and amazing of a master palpatine is. The whole point of him saving Vader on mustafar was to create something that would surpass himself in cruelty, planning and mastery in all dark side for powers. If Vader would have used his pain for losing Padme as a form of punishment to be cruel to himself. He would’ve been a monster who would surpass his ultimate potential. If Vader really applied himself to the teachings instead of feeling sorry for himself. He would have eventually be so proficient using the dark side powers to completely remove all the discomfort that armor brought. If he had mastered force lightning to the point being able to release it without damaging his suit’s electronics. He would’ve truly became one with the force. If Vader was able to do that than it wouldn’t be that hard for him to find out Sidius had manipulated him and caused padmes death. The whole point was to break Anakin and make him completely hate himself and more so the emperor. Sadly Vader never could let go of his grief for causing pads death. The feeling of guilt, and grief are the cause for many people to fall into the dark side. They’re not needed and they become an hindrance because feeling grief and guilt is having doubts about your actions. Which will make it hard to completely become one in balance in the dark side of the force. Losing to obiwan is also a great damper to anakin confidence. Sidius faced yoda and came back in one piece even after kinda losing his duel which was a tie by my standards. Compared to him losing all his limbs to Obiwan which wasn’t even close to yoda in power must have been the most devastating thing to ever happen in his entire life. Vader was built to be darker and a better version of Sidius to surpass him in every aspect.😂

Vader can literally do anything the writers want him to do. Or not. He SHOULD be an unstoppable bionic juggernaut. He SHOULD be able to defeat his enfeebled Master. Instead, for the time being, Vader’s suit limits him, and Palpatine is unstoppable and all-powerful. I can’t wait for the pendulum to swing back, with Vader being depicted as more powerful. I’d like to see a story where Vader uses his cybernetic strength, endurance, and speed to completely overwhelm Palpatine. No more getting fried with Force Lightning when Palpatine is displeased (which is “all the time”). No more insults. No more impossible missions. No more tests. No more plots against him. I want to see Darth Vader kick Palpatine’s shriveled a$$ and re-define their relationship. I’d like to think that this happens right before ROTJ. Vader up-armors his suit, and learns to re-direct/control Force Lightning (even if he can’t generate it himself). They duel, and Vader wins because he’s Anakin Skywalker underneath. Think about it - Anakin fought CONSTANTLY during The Clone Wars. His saber skills should be at an astronomical level. Palpatine? When does HE get to practice at that level? I say never! Mace Windu beat him. Yoda was a tie, but Yoda DID outfight him. And Darth Vader has Anakin’s skill PLUS cybernetics.

@@yasininn76 The comics depict that scene much differently. Palpatine blasted Vader with Force Lightning for trying to choke him with The Force. Vader wasn’t strong enough to get Palpatine, even though he wrecked the operating room. This WAS NOT depicted on-screen, of course, and the comics tend to nerf Vader to the point of ridiculousness. From my standpoint, I despise The Emperor as a character. I want to see Vader destroy him. We DO get that in ROTJ (from a certain point of view), but I can’t believe Anakin would allow himself to be abused the way Palpatine is depicted as constantly abusing Vader. The “rules” never seem to apply to Palpatine. Even in the fetid “Rise of Skywalker”, Palpatine was a corpse tethered to machinery - yet his power was still god-level. I call BS on that. Vader had far more vitality (and mobility) in the OT than corpse-Palpatine had on Exegol. It’s lopsided, and Vader always loses by comparison. I actually had a moment of hope in the comics, when an enraged Vader went rogue and literally rode a Cthulhu-like Summa Verminoth through the atmosphere of Exegol in an effort to fight Palpatine. Instead of a rage-fueled Force showdown, we got Palpatine showing Vader a massive Kyber crystal that was under his control. Vader agreed to remain Palpatine’s apprentice, and Vader was rebuilt (again).

Sidious thought himself to be the pinnacle of Sith, as he claimed the galaxy when no one else could. In addition, though Sith may respect those attempting to overthrow them, they'll still prepare and fight back to the best of their ability. If Vader managed to kill Sidious despite his limitations, perhaps with his corrupted son's aid, that would prove him a truly superior Sith.

However in the time after the Old Republic, through the time of the empire and even Luke Skywalker's time as well as the New Republic and even into the future when a sect of Sith come out of hiding and become a threat the Emperor is considered the strongest Sith in roughly 1,500 years worth of history.

I always just assumed Vader and other dark side users who have robotic limbs (like Grievous) couldnt use the force lighting ability. The suit that Anakin Skywalker used was given to him by Palpatine, to make him stronger and more powerful as an apprentice. And never weaker. Because Emperor "Darth" Sidious found Lord Vader alive on Mustafar. And gave him so he could work as his right sith hand. Sidious here has never used force lightning on Vader. It is sausage tissue and nonsense. The only thing Sidious wanted and eliminated was The Jedi by execute order 66. And Vader never overthrow his mentor Palps.
