Story:
A prince sets off on a journey to save his dying father, driven by his fear of failing him.

I love the lighting. Also, I like how at the start, the scene is arranged like a play. The throne is always in the background, but you don't notice it until the prince looks at it.

Let me try to explain this. A prince is afraid of his father (king) dying of old age so he travels to a place where the blood of this creature can give life, when he travels there he sees a woman with a glowing head so he kills her and takes the head as a light source into the temple, when he gets there he sees that the creature is dead but takes the skull just in case, he props the womans head on to a sacrifical looking thing and it seems like others have tried before, when he travels back he sees a deer with grwing antlers that looked like the tree in the book, so he kills it for the blood thinking that its blood will contain the essence of life but it does not so he is filled with greif of how many things have died ( father, woman, creature, deer ) so his mind becomes dead-like inside so he wears the skull to represent the greif of his mind The moral is that things in life are harder to get that you think and that destruction happens everywhere I THINK...

I thought it was an inevitability that his father would die and in order to earn his spot on the throne the prince had to follow in the previous King's footsteps and go on a quest to retrieve the serpent's blood to extend the life of the kingdom? But there are a lot of parts I'm not sure about and there are probably countless ways this could be interpreted!

Amazing and epic work--both the animation and storyline. I can see how it may be confusing to many viewers, but... The emotion really comes across strongly, and for those who pick up on mythological references, the plot is golden.

+Frank Eltabbar I think the other three hooded figures are those who had their heads chopped and can be seen when he puts the females head on. She was one of the figures, so I think that the other two were killed previously by others, hence the skulls.

Agree! One of the best things I've ever seen! Still, I don't get another thing... Who is that woman (undoubtedly not a human, because of her glowing eyes) and what was she doing there? I thought first, she is a sacrifice for a dragon, but seems like this is absolutely wrong. May be she is a witch and she was looking something magical there? Mmm... sounds unconvincingly anyway. On the other hand... Seems like it shouldn't be any answer at all - everything in this film happens "just because" - just as in real life, hah.))

You might enjoy Heavy Metal (1981), Fantastic Planet (1973), Gandahar (1987). They’re different in many ways but they have some hard to pin down quality, their worlds have a similarly mysterious aura. As an adult I can’t enjoy them anymore, but I do rediscover some of the incredible feelings I used to have as a child if I watch them while high.

+Alex P. That was a magic tree shown in the beginning, which should grow after dragon's blood will be poured on the ground. And so, prince saw this mysterious deer with horns that look like trees, and thought "may be it will work with deer's blood?" It was the last desperate hope. But nope, it's not working. This is of course only my opinion. But looks logical. And I have no other idea.%)
