Welcome to another video.
This time the same old story about the S4 B9 . A bit of a special video , because we received this car directly from the dealership after several months standing there . Owner if this S4 was really disappointed with a bill from Audi for finding the problem . Once he decided he had enough the car came to us as a non runner and the parts from the engine were in the back . If that's not enough , while stripping the engine down at dealers , they manage to damage some parts and after all this they advise the owner he needs a new engine ....
Will we be able to fix this one ? Or Audi was right and we need a new engine?
More in the video, thanks for watching !
If you need rocker arm service or chain service please visit our website
vagtechnic.uk/...
please book your car in advance , usually booking time is two months in advance

The Honda dealer I go to is pricey, but they typically do a good job, are knowledgeable, and use the proper tools. That said, I do have to pressure/prod them into doing routine maintenance that they deem unnecessary. Like changing the coolant after 60K miles. Doing valve lash adjustment, doing oilchanges at half the interval, that sort of thing. I'm very picky, and know the details of the car/engine, maybe because they know it changes the relationship a bit? I dont know. That said, they also dont refuse service when they know the car is remapped. I actually have more bad experiences, and thousands of euro's of wasted money, on several independent shops.

You guys are seriously awesome. I also had a bad experience at the Audi dealership with my B5 S4 years ago due to all of the recalls it was getting if anyone remembers those times. The 1st recall letter wasn't so bad and I got a rental but by the 4th recall letter, it was starting to get annoying and also they weren't helping with rentals and they suddenly changed the terms and conditions of their extended warranty to not cover rentals. I ended up using my insurance for a rental and they approved it( thank you GEICO BTW). Car was great after I kept it with an independent VAG shop in town and it has been a god send. Much respect for your videos and thanks for sharing it. As an American, I find it funny that I understand your English much better than the native English speakers. Kudos for that. Great video - after 30 yrs of running fast Audi's - mostly tuned S8's - I only ever used the dealerships when the cars were under warranty - as soon as they fell out of warranty I used a good specialist for servicing and repairs - like you, they have more knowledge in a small team than the larger teams in the dealerships. They care more and charge far less. I think a second lesson is to treat this type of car like an aircraft and research a preemptive maintenance plan based on what typically goes wrong - especially if, like the example here, failure could cause very expensive damage. I recently did this for my wife's BMW 5 series (520d) and was surprised at how many things posed a risk (e.g. the plastic inlet manifold can fail and drop the butterfly valves into the cylinders.. When we (preemptively) took it off (at 100k) one of them was near failure and only a few 1000 miles off collapse.

19:30 - Good and fair point. Anyone car buy virtually any car, they key is affording the repair costs. My 2009 Volvo V70 has been stripped for parts and sold off, as it's no longer financially viable to keep replacing parts. I'd always recommend buying a car outright, rather than financing, yet it's important to know when to stop spending money to fix the car.

note on how the injectors look, the one you showed that was pretty seized, that's the compression seal for the injector mating surface to the head orifice, its made out of a teflon material so when the seals wear out over time the compression is lost, right at that point you showed in the video, also as a result there is carbon buildup because of blowby gasses.

If you add in a stressed service manager this sort of thing is bound to happen.

Ive seen similar with a motorcycle. Stripped it down, realised they didn't know what the heck they're doing, told customer to either collect the boxes and pay for the strip or they'd put it back together (no ridable) and the customer could pay for both strip and rebuild. And collect. Customer had a few days to pay collect and sign a legal waiver, or the dealers would charge storage. Possibly the owner shouldn't have taken a Ducati desmo to the local bike warehouse.

Damn I almost bought a S4 build in 2017, I really like those cars but I'm glad I saved money and after a year I could afford a 2017 C63S estate.

The rocker arms are clearly a bit of a time bomb and a pretty expensive service item to resolve. I guess Audi, like other manufacturers, will not admit to a design change to resolve a design flaw, as they would be faced with additional claims. I wonder in the USA if customers would approach this with a law suit. In the UK we just suck it up though.

There is probably not many dealerships with mechanics capable of stripping such a engine you guys know these engines inside out this is something you can't buy experience so it looks like some so called master tech at the dealer got in way over his head and basically said the engine is unservicble pleas persuade the owner to take it away great video as always i enjoy watching your channel

It probably was an apprentice that did the job. That said I am a Mercedes mechanic and we had the exact same thing. Someone went to MB because of a shaky engine. The dealer replaced the engine mount. Problem was gone for 5 days and it came back. Then the stealeship told him it is the turbo. His was a MB 124 6 cylinder diesel. He said go ahead and it did not change anything. The they said it is the injection pump and he said go ahead. Still same. After paying $7500 Canadian he said that is it. He found us and the car got towed to our shop with the parts on boxed also. They damaged some parts too. My boss and I looked at the engine and found no problem with the engine ( because MB was going to replace the engine next, so he said no) so I put everything back together, replace couple of items that was worn but did not cause this problem. Once all put together the last thing I did was unscrew the fuel filter . The fuel filter was completely plugged as you could see the dirt when you unscrewed it. Our bill was I think 3k and the owner said that the car has not run this good ever. What also happed my boss used to work at this dealership but opened his own. What he did he went with him to the dealership and told him what the cause of the problem was. They would no agree with the fuel filter as they do not need to be replaced. So he asked our customer to get his service book out of his car. When he came dark my boss showed the dealership that the fuel filter should be replaced every 46k km . He had 200k km. The dealership gave him half the money back and he was a full time customer with us. Good job guys

Not only Audi /VAG , a friend had a Peugeot 308 with a gearbox problem, it worked although very notchy. A Peugeot dealer took the box apart , decided they couldn't repair it/ reassemble it and boxed it all up and put it in the boot of the car citing it needed to go to a gearbox specialist! The guy had a running/working car and left with it on a transporter, totally useless garage..
