The fact that he said "I have two guns, one for each of ya." Whilst spinning one gun one way And the other one another way deserved a Oscar alone.

Not only that, he draws and spins while still holding his drink cup upright, like he'd done it a thousand times before and that's likely because Val practiced by doing just that. In Real Genius he rolls quarters down the knuckles of both of his hands at the same time. And that was for one scene in a silly 80s nerd comedy. He's always been a truly dedicated master of his craft, it's so tragic that he lost his voice.

When Doc says "Say when" it is the most understated yet intimidating line in the whole movie. He is not even the slightest bit concerned about losing to Ringo.
@AllTradesGeorge
@AllTradesGeorge Жыл бұрын
And it hits on multiple levels. I mean, yes, Doc knows he's in complete control of the situation, and his words (and their delivery) convey that...but he also knows he's facing a long, slow, wasting death and he isn't the least bit afraid of someone giving him a quicker, cleaner departure from life. He's a man who literally has no fear of losing, because even if he loses, he still gains a more worthy death than he was looking at if he didn't do anything. And an enemy who has no fear of dying is a truly intimidating thing to face.

This is the crowning achievement of any actor. Not how many roles you play, not how many Oscars or Golden Globes you may win, but that your performance of one character was so amazing, so iconic, that all the fans and movie goers remember it and laud it for generations to come. Almost 30 years later and people are still talking about Val's performance. That pretty much puts him in with Marlon Brando and the impact he made with his performance in 'The Godfather'.

It’s not very often in film when a character with a smaller role can completely steal the show in every scene he’s in, but Kilmer did that with some extra on top in Tombstone despite the already fantastic cast around him. There’s just a uniqueness to how he played Doc, where he’s frail and dying, while also being the most dangerous man in the room.

I dont know why people dont mention him more. M.Biehn was so great that his face expressions was telling all the time what`s going on. Maybe it`s easier to recognize V.Kilmer cause he played hero part. It is still weird cause Biehn was shining like Lawrence Olivier or Brando at their very best, which is also very surprising cause I never though that he could be this great. I was in my early twenties when Tombstone came out in theaters. I recall thinking that it was as good,if not better, then most of the westerns I grew up watching. When I look back now...I still do. And the incredible ensemble cast, including Kimer' s iconic Doc Holliday, all delivered. Especially Kurt Russell in allowing Kilmer to "do his thing" as an actor. Bravo.

Unforgiven with Clint Eastwood is every bit as good, as Tombstone. IMO True Grit (the original with John Wayne) is the best western ever made followed by a close 2nd with Tombstone, Unforgiven, and The cowboys. I call all 3 a tie for 2nd

The greatest Doc Holiday character there ever was. Val will never be beat and Tombstone will never be beat as their story.
