I watch the videos of this performance pretty often, particularly this song. I miss JTE, but I'm so happy to have this document of how otherworldly amazing a talent he had and the love of music that channeled through his performances. He gave us a lifetime's worth of amazing songs. As Bob Johnston (the late producer) would've said, Justin Townes Earle had the holy ghost about him.

I've always told people who don't "get" the blues ....yes, it's easy to play note wise, but the FEEL you need to pull it off and make it authentic and actually move people. This video is the epitome of that, he puts everything he has into it...and for the short time that we as watchers experience it, it makes us feel good or sad or whatever but it makes you feel something. That is the blues.

It makes more sense that Mike Ness and Johnny Two Bags are going to be at his 40th birthday tribute show in Nashville. Justin and Steve are my cousins . Super excited to be on the guest list for this show . Edit: which got postponed.

@underthewater_9 жыл бұрын
Probably a long time spent with travispicking. This seems to be a bit of a looser adaptation. He's got three things going; A thumb downstroke over the top strings, a finger stroke up and down that hits the bottom/middle strings, and a finger pick over the bottom 2-3 strings. Thumb stroke down x2. Up flick. Slap. (Get this rhythm going.) Once you have that ingrained, fit the finger picked melody in between the flicks and slaps.
