It is interesting that he showed in Paris. I am curious as to why he didn't show in Milan.

Because the Milan thing is relatively new… At the time when he started doing fashion, Paris was everything, Rome was the center of Italian fashion (and Italian fashion was unimportant compared to French Couture), and Milan meant nothing in fashion. It would take another good 25-30 years after Valentino opened his house in Rome for fashion to start happening in Milan. Valentino was the first great Italian fashion designer and Italian fashion house and he only achieved that because he became a Parisian designer. He appreciated his Italian heritage and the Italian techniques and sensibility of Alta Moda, but he also knew if he wanted to really be successful he had to show in Paris.

As I get older, I've come to realize that men do "beauty" [hair, make-up, clothing, interior design, etc.] better because they visual creatures and value BEAUTY! Nice cars, nice clothes, a good-looking partner. Women do "money" better [entrepreneurship] because they are pragmatic creatures and value MONEY / financial security. No woman wants to find herself on the streets with her children! The unfortunate part is that "historically" men have had the privilege to do whatever they choose, and women have not. Think of how great the world could be if "historically" EVERYONE had the privilege to pursue what they chose as opposed to work that society deemed as "men's" work and "women's" work.
