The Rise and Rise of Schiaparelli

Schiaparelli is one of the hottest brand for each couture season in recent years, but the company hasn't always been this successful, in fact, despite the incredible success of their namesake Elsa Schiaparelli, this revival took several years to actually find the success it enjoys now. They went through a very long period of waiting for the right time and the right designer in fact, with many mistakes along the way, all in order for them to find the perfect man for the job, Daniel Roseberry, who has seen the brand grow to new heights of fame that this legendary brand really deserves.

Daniel did his homework. He was humble enough to recognise that what mattered was the brand's DNA if he was going to make it successful once again.

Yes, exactly, he was concerned with the brand history and wanted it to work in a modern contwxt more than he wanted to be famous

Schiaparelli is definitely the most interesting house at the moment for me. It's art. I always look forward to their shows and they never seem to disappoint; I enjoy every! single! minute! and wish I had at least 95% of each season's pieces. Again I tell you that we are lucky to have you on KZbin. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and making such GREAT videos.

I'm so glad they found a designer that could capture the original spirit of the brand. Yet another designer that succeeded though hard work and belief in her work. I find it especially interesting how directly her work was inspired (quite literally sometimes) from the art movements of the day which one could argue were the most consequential of all time. Dadaism, Art Nouveau, Surrealism. I'm really surprised there isn't a more direct link to art movements in fashion. It seems like it would be a natural fit. I look forward to the biography. It will be an achievement if you do half as well as the last one!
@understitchYT
@understitchYT 11 ай бұрын
Well, she really didn't see herself as a collaborator of those art movements so much as part of it. She really considered her work as sculpture and wanted it to be taken seriously as art. Noone since has really taken it as seriously as her, its a real shame that it wasn't until decades later that fashion became acceptable to experience in art galleries, because really I think she would have seen that as the best place for her work Im currently working on two biographies, one on McQueen and one on Schiap, obviously from this you can tell Im already several books deep in research for Elsa, but shes so mysterious that its fascinating to try to read through so much just to get a morsel of information (which is often exaggerated by her) its brilliant, such an icon, a genius

She believed it was art too. Lots of people talk about her as a designer that worked with artists and thats just not how she saw herself at all. She didnt ‘include’ their art, she was part of it and made art with them together

my favourite designers actually change often, but a real standout over my life has been JW Anderson. I watched his first show, I own two pieces (now destroyed) from his second collection. I dedicated my time when I had no money just to experience his clothing, I love his work and journey. That being said, I love so many brands which are more subject to change, Magliano, Palomo Spain, Paco Rabanne, Kimbiki (a very small Korean designer), Simone Rochas, obviously Comme, Ganryu, I like my own clothes a lot, Vaquera, I ALWAYS adore graduate shows, the list really is endless (I guess hence my broad enough knowledge to make a YT channel out of it)

A little unpopular opinion, Schiaparelli about me is specifically a brand that have sense with the creator. Elsa was a genius, her way to create and work with a brand was copied and copied, now her real hereditary is Miuccia Prada because her approach to fashion has a grand link to Schiaparelli. Secondly, about my taste John Galliano would be a better option for Schiaparelli and Maison Margiela would be better with Demna Gvasalia

I love your idea of Schiaparelli + maximalist makeup. And an older viewer;) I wonder if/when we’ll ever go back to à strong eye strong lip make up look like the 60’s 70’s 80’s…. The 90’s really put an end to that. But as we’re over 30 years since á strongly made up face went out, perhaps it’s time it came around again. Your thoughts?

Besides Schiaparelli collection made by Elsa (only available with Illustrations and pictures), Marco Zanini made an excellent job (sometimes better than Daniel Rosebery's One 👀)

Hi understitsch,, Will Schiaparelli brand come back from the dead ? this depend from Art critics in London. Is any artists living in the world today that can come up to level of three surreal artist that worked with Elsa ? The artists were Man Ray, Salvatore Dali and Andre Breton. With no disrespect to Daniel Roseberry. Elsa did not worked alone.
@understitchYT
@understitchYT 7 ай бұрын
Actually Elsa did work alone, she was already a surrealist artist by the time she began wokring with other artists and she argued for years that she should be measured on her own merits, not by those of her friends. She argued she made art as valid as the men she was associated with andreally thoight the comparisons were close minded. Really its a shame then that history also painted her with that brush, its quite unnecessary

Hi Understitsch, thank you so much for reveal another secret. you are right . She an artist and classical one at that by using Tromp L eol. She is very good judging by her sweater design. Once a man gets little bit of money they start put women artist down.. There a rift between them that never healed.

Elsa Schiaparelli was ahead of her time. I love her designs and I’ve been a fan of the brand since even before Daniel Roseberry took over as Creative Director. It makes me very happy to see that this brand has been so successful under the direction of Daniel, who really understands the house codes that Elsa established.

Unfortunately I genuinely think that if Elsa was to try to start her busienss again today how she ran it back then it would fail in a heartbeat. Theres nowhere near enough grace as she needed to make it big (I mean financially), the way the company finances were back then was atrocious, no auditing, no budgets whatsoever, it was wild. Literally her business went bankrupt and she didn't notice at one point (or maybe she chose not to notice to keep the people she was protecting safe, this was during the war years after all)

I don’t know.. how’s to feel for Schiaperalli For me Schiaperalli vintage garment is iconic in fashion industy because it is real encapsulate strong essence for surrealism; encapsulate to wearable form. Like the real movement in surrealism that strongly attached to era similar to Chanel with Military style. But that art movement.. are faded. We now in another era. Don’t know.. how to feel about this..
