That's a bold statement to make. Had I never listened to Valeriy Stepanov I might try to mount a counter argument but i have heard much of Stepanov's catalog and so I say You are correct. Other keyboardists may approach Stepanovs technical capabilities, but they don't have his massive creative side. For context, I've been a keyboardist in both jazz and classical settings for over 40 years and I know of no one that is even close.

This is nice! I’m almost 60 years old. Back in the 80ies and 90ies this kind of music was pretty popular. We called it fusion (I think it’s what they still call it today😅). Our heroes were: The Brecker brothers, Bob Berg and Mike Stern, Miles Davis, Steps Ahead and many others. The drummer in this video reminds me of one of the heroes back then: Dennis Chambers. Nice maestro Eric - was longing though for more of the kind of thing you played at jazz alley last year. Always seems like the recorded stuff is you being tame lol. They need to just let you loose bro! Wish I had recording of your performance saw you at last year - some of the best sax playing I've ever heard. I saw Michael Brecker play in the same spot 20 years ago that you played and I can't say he played better than you....we all walked away amazed by what you did.

Wow! The transition ~3:26 from where the vocal swells double/fatten out the altissimo at the apex of Eric's solo to those wicked (!!!) horn stabs is some turbo-arranging. Props to Ivan for nailing those quick hits in the upper register.
