I walk through a small fraction of the sounds in the ‪@Valeton‬ Valeton GP200 Amp Modeller and Effects Processor after just taking delivery of the unit this day.
I was sold on it by a video that I saw on Andertons Channel ‪@andertons‬ and massive thanks to them for a delivery that arrived the very next day.
I paid for this - am not sposored in any way and I am blown away!
The future is good - You DON'T need to save up all your money to buy a ‪@kemperampsofficial‬ Kemper!

This is exactly the type of review I hope to find when researching a product. It's authentic, honest, devoid of bias, and focused, in this case, on getting great sounds and having fun. To find such an experienced and knowledgeable person enthusiastically endorsing the real world usefulness/practicality of the product carries a lot of weight with me. Thank you Mr. Bond

@@PaulBondMusic Well, I bought the GP-200 the day after watching your video. It arrives tomorrow and I'm confident after watching your vid that it will be an enjoyable piece of gear. I'll make it sound like garbage of course, but my trusty headphones will keep the neighbors from calling the police....unless I try singing.

@@danogden5390 Ha Ha - nice one. Link it to your computer, open the app and really experiment with those amps. Bypass the FX, dial in a good tone, and then start adding FX back. SOME of the stock settings can be a little over the top, but they hide some amazing amp tones. I'm still VERY happy with mine. It gets used all the time!

@@hosualexandru1965 I got mine yesterday and have already had quite a bit of fun with it. Like anything else there's a bit of a learning curve but not prohibitively so. Nothing a little curiosity and patience can't overcome - I'm still in the learning phase. And considering I looked online last night at the price of one Matchless amp which was $3500+ and weighs close to 70lbs, I think the price of this sim board and its dozens of simulated amps, cabs, and pedals make it quite easy to include in any ones guitar kit. For a hack like me who just plays at home (a tiny apartment) it's such a great cost-effective solution/substiture for loads of gear. PLUS, it's a fantastic learning tool. Learning about all the different types of pedals, how they function, where to put them in the chain, etc.... Overall, for the price of a decent microphone the versatility you get is amazing. Regarding the authenticity of simulating analog amps, cabs, etc.. I'll leave that to others more knowledgeable like Paul Bond, but with my Audio-Technica ATH-MX50 headphones the sounds I'm hearing are great. It's good fun!

Superb review from a quality working pro of a superb product. I was sceptical about all the rave reviews after buying a Boss Katana, again, after rave reviews and being underwhelmed at its lack of 'valvey' sound and feel. The Valeton GP200 appeared to have all the features, sounds, and ease of use I was after. Ideal to jack straight into the poweramp section of my Katana. This review put my mind at ease... I bought one ! ..... Kinnell ! This thing is epic for the money ! .... In the early 90s, when I was getting more serious about guitars I bought a 15+ year old Selmer Treble n Bass valve amp (silver front) for £30. Nobody wanted old valve amps at the time in this format. I was given an old 1960's jukebox speaker baffle, which had a mouldy pair of twin 12's of some type attached. I built it into a cab with some chipboard. The original marshall blues breaker pedal was launched around the same time, which really booted the rig into life. I sold that rig about 1998 for £80 to young lad who was starting out... today those old selmers fetch £600... anyway, I returned to guitar about 10 years ago with a couple of crappy transistor combos, which sadly got nowhere near the older selmer setup. (I think one was H&K attax100) Very recently, I hoped the Katana 100 head would get me in the ballpark. Whilst a lot nearer, it just never quite got close enough. I'm very happy to report that using the DR. Z 38 amp moddel in the GP 200 with a small pre boost and the built in blues breaker fx into the Katana I'm there ! It's dialled in 😊 ... highly reactive, snappy, glassy blues tone at half volume on the guitar pot that rolls into ear flapping old school valve drive at your fingertips. To me, it's worth the £290 to recreate my old amp alone.... However, everything else is epic as well. Marshall 800 is highly authentic.. and my god, The Soldano ! ... Most reviews mention that the Soldano model is extremely close. WOW, if a real Soldano is even slightly better than the model in the Valeton it is truly the world's greatest guitar amp. The hype is real, this budget modeller IS capable of pro tone and use. Thanks for taking the time to give us your expertise on this piece of kit Paul

John - Sorry that it's taken me a while to respond to your amazing post. Selmer Treble and Bass - They were the days! SO glad that you like the Valeton. I'm still using mine every day and making some epic recordings! Yeah... The Soldano! Say no more!

Mr. Bond i have to tell you this video has been inspiring! I have owned the GP200 now for a few months, im absolutely in love with it, and your hardware/gear experience, and not to mention your playing gives devices like this a really really big boost! And the fact that the Anderton's guys really like the product too makes for a very interesting backing of it. I assume that by now (im only now finding your video) you have played a little more with the software, you probably already have the latest firmware on it, and have no doubt looked at the new stereo delays and reverbs in there, this thing really really earns its place to be honest. Thanks for a great video! Hope you're able to do some follow up with it!

Hi Claudio... Thank you so much for your kind words. Having now had the GP200 for a few weeks, my enthusiasm has NOT faded at all. In fact, I seem to find myself using the GP200 instead of my Kemper for most recordings. I absolutely love it and I'm still blown away by how good it is for the money. It is a completely professional unit. I have used it once live and had the sounds switching via MIDI and it worked flawlessly. I can not say enough good things about it. I promise you... I have nothing to do with Valeton and I paid for my unit... I'm just a total fan!

Really solid review, great playing & really helpful comments & insight.Thx for ur 411 overview. It really is getting scary what u can do with a few hundred dollars these days. Makes me wonder if I need to keep my 84 JCM-800 & keep micing it up for sessions when u can get pretty impressive amp sounds from this Valeton GP-200 so easy.

I purchased one because of the reviews and the price, I had nothing to loose. I was only looking to have a travel amp that I could throw in a back pack. It has become my main rig, I run it thru 2 headrush FRFR 18's and it sounds amazing and can be freaking loud. The only drawback is that it does not have enough slots for after market IR's, I love all the Celestion IR packs I own. Great review Paul....

Fantastic review Paul - I own an almost 20 yr old Boss GT-8 which I have been using with a 1969 Princeton Reverb since I bought it. It doesn't sound very good through a PA (unless I run it through an ART V3 Studio Valve Pre-amp) but wanted to stop hauling amps around and have become very much aware of the trend of moving into advanced amp modelling and profiling. I admit I haven't personally tried any of the Line 6 Helix / Headrush/ Kemper/ Fractal / Quad Cortex / Boss GT 1000 / Fender Tone Master / etc. units but have watched many You Tube demos & reviews ( Anderton's regularly) and just came across the Valeton.GP-200.This unit looks perfect for my needs even though I could afford one of the others. I'm not a pro musician but do appreciate good sound when I hear it and love simplicity as I get older! The sounds you were getting "straight out of box" blew me away and I hadn't realized that latency can be a factor with some of them. Thanks for that revelation. I have also watched your review after 6 months of using the GP-200 and I'm convinced! Cheers from Canada

My GP-200 arrives today, excited to evaluate it. I have a Kemper Stage and HR Prime, so the bar is very high with me. I only use software amp sims (TH-U, Amplitube 5 etc), a Spark Mini, and a Fender Mustang Micro, but I wanted something with good quality tones and a looper, to use with headphones on cottage holidays while my wife has a lie-in. Out of all the demos on YT, this is the only one that's completely sold me on it. Oh yeah, have a sub' too.

Cheers Steve. I wasn't aware of the Donner Arena 2000, but I did a quick Google... I can't comments on the sounds of it, but for a similar price, I reckon that the extra buttons on the Valeton make it more desireable. I sound like a Valeton salesperson don't I !!! I'm not - I just think it's great.

Got mine a few months ago when my church band went ‘silent stage’ mainly as it was the only in this price range to have xlr outs but I’ve been really pleased with it. The only things I think I would change are the ability to have 2 drive pedals in a patch (some of the boosts are in the Pre and DST selections so why not some of the drives?) and I’d have more modulation options for the delays although the new update has introduced some stereo delays with modulation. Oh and the manual could be a bit more helpful! All in all a great unit.
@PaulBondMusic
@PaulBondMusic Жыл бұрын
Nice one Antony. I’m sure their decision was based on ease of use and price. Most would never use 2 x drive pedals into a gained up amp. You could always sling an ACTUAL hardware pedal in the front.

@@PaulBondMusic hi Paul, thanks for the reply! Yes you are probably right, I’m probably trying too hard to replicate my home rig which is always pedal gain as I can’t get the amp up loud enough to overdrive! You are also right about using an actual pedal especially now you can move the effects loop around in the new firmware.

Great review on the Valeton GP-200, Yes I do own the Fractal AXE-FXll XL, and it's very good sounding, but I use my GP-200 cause it's so easy to get the sound fast. I do say it's really closing the gap on the more price friendly units. Yes, my Fractal has every thing a tweeters need to hone in the perfect sound, but you burn a lot on time setting up the AX-Fll XL, and then the idea is lost. So yes, it's not 100% perfect but at the price point it's a real gem. I had the GE-300 by Mooer and I thought that was pretty good too, until it and it's nice hard case got stolen out of our trunk of our car. Vacations can be hell on band gear. The GE-300 you can control the stomp boxes better, and they lit up the buttons so you can see what amp, reverb, etc. are and where. I find that kind of lacking on the GP-200. As of sound, the GP-200 is on par with my guitar players Heilx ( sure his does more on switching, digital output and higher sample rates for recording) But to be honest I did not like it until he updated it a couple times from Line-6 and added some new cab sims. Not to sure the GE-300 sounds as good as the GP-200, I think the GP has a bit of a edge sound wise on the GE-300, but still the Mooer was pretty darn good too, just a bit behind the GP-200, and the Line-6. I think the only thing out that would sound better is the new Fractal, might be a few more that I have not tried. But I have to say the Paul Bond is a master at showcasing a product and giving his honest option. Two huge thumps up on this video, and killer player and Knowledgeable nice guy.

Jeff - I really appreciate your considered comments and your kind words! It's interesting to hear your thoughts on the GP200 vs the Fractal and the Mooer. All I can say is... Since getting this cheap little thing, I use it ALL of the time. I am actually on a professional session with an Uber producer this week and the Valeton is going down a storm. I know it so well now that I can very quickly and easily dial in FX and tweak the sounds. If anything, I'm more impressed with it now than I was when I did this review on the first day. I HAVE NOT switched on my Kemper since getting this little puppy! As a sidenote... The 44.1k aspect has not been an issue in the slightest. I just plug in via XLR's and we're good to go. Thanks again for your compliments... it means a lot! I should do some more reviews!
@jeffalbro4534
@jeffalbro4534 Жыл бұрын
@@PaulBondMusic Sure you don't get everything with the GP-200, like the Mooer has more footswitches for your stomp boxes, a big plus, I think the editing software was better too, the Fractal is just almost most crazy what you can edit on that thing. You have to think about the sound your after, otherwise you will be there for hours, on one preset (Just checking out all you can do) and not get nothing done with your music. So that can be a huge downfall, at times. I guess the Fractal lll is a real monster, has 4 engines on board way better effects, high sample rates, and you finally get strips like the Helix to you can see where you are in a blacked out stage. Lots of stars using the new Fractal, bands like Journey, Dep Leppard to just name a few. I think they are so complex you almost need a tech just to get it set up for you. It's just to much for me and the price is crazy high. But you know Paul it's all about the music, and this little GP-200 has the sound, amps are very good and very useable, and you can record sound very good audio tracks with the thing. It's should be all about making music and not a spec sheet you know or how many things can my box do over yours. I'm just not into that at all, sure I don't like all the effects on board but most are very useable, and you can add your own stomp boxes as well. I remember when I was a kid most amps where so bad sounding, and you where lucky if you could afford a nice sounding tube amp. But all the transistor amps where so bad for the most part. We are lucky to live in a day of great sounding amps. I would of died and gone to heaven if I could of had what kids get now days. It's a players dream come true, and for the price this little box delivers big time. So yes, my Fractal sits a lot now too, but it does have the duel engine so that comes in handy at times, and I can go out thru the digital XLR’ss to record. So it still has it's place. As you say the GP-200 sounds just fine recording thru the XLR, most of my friends think it's real amps I’m using (I'm not going to tell them otherwise). Yes Paul, you should do more reviews, your good at it. Cheers mate...

Hi Paul this is a great review, I am toying with this or the Boss GT-100 at the moment and your review seems to swing it the GP200 way. I downloaded the software for my Mac but since I do not have the hardware I cannot see what it is like. My main tastes are U2 Gilmour and AC/DC so will need a good delay for the first two at least. Have you meddled with the software yet, is it as good as the Boss Tone Studio, which I think is rather nice. PS, I cannot for the life of me understand why you do not have more subs, you know your stuff and can obviously play as well. Keep up the good work, you now have 453 subs.
@PaulBondMusic
@PaulBondMusic Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Paul - that means a lot. I can't give an honest comparison between the Valeton and the Boss, but I THINK I'm right in saying that the Boss is older technology now. I reckon that the Valeton probably has more accurate modelled sounds, but I COULD be talking out of my arse 😜 I also adore U2, Gilmour and AC/DC, Gilmour being one of my absolute favourite guitar players. The Valeton will give you all that you need! The stock sounds may not sway you, but link it to the app on your Mac and you'll dial in the sounds in no time. Honestly, the more time I spend with it, the more I am blown away. For the money, I just don't see anything beating this thing. Thanks also for the comment about the subs. This is actually the very first gear review that I've done... should I do more? 😉 Cheers 👍

@@PaulBondMusic So I took the Lane FRFR to rehearsal last night, and I have to say I was absolutely blown away. I have some work to do with the GP200 to get my patches sorted out so I can switch quicker between songs but the amp sounds great. I am many many divisions below you (we are an amateur pub band), and I dare say the cork sniffers may have a different view, but it really worked for me. There's a global hi-trim which I had to dial in, but it really only took 5 mins. Very happy, especially as with the GP200 I can go from my acoustasonic to electric with no fuss or drama at all. Hope that helps Paul, come back to me if you need anything else.

@@richnetts Thanks so much for filling me in. I used mine for the first time last night through my Yamaha Stagepass 1k small line array p.a. and it sounded amazing! I think the key takeaway for anyone reading all this, is that the presests are PRESETS. They are a starting point and you HAVE to tweak them to suit your particular rig. In terms of switching, I played to backing tracks and got my software to switch the patches (20 of them!) via MIDI automatically with no tap-dancing required. It worked an absolute treat, so much so that I'm thinking about doing a video. It's a niche situation, but may be helpful for someone. Keep making the noise my man.😎
