It STILL catches me off gaurd when I focus on the other parts of the song and then realize that Geoff held that B0 for 15 seconds

Not only did he hold it for 15 seconds in subs, but he did it twice and had two pitch changes in the first one.

My mans is down there inventing new notes 💀I mean, technically there is a B0 on a grand piano (the third key on the very left no one ever touches) and on a 5-string bass guitar with extended range (literally the lowest note on there), but not on a normal bass or a contrabass. Others crushed it as well. It's refreshing to hear Cesar push his vocals through gritted teeth, he usually sings the most soy parts. Eli popped off, he literally belts the Chandelier note as rock vocals, which is pretty hard to reach even in falcetto for a female singer. I usually don't like rap, but J's bars were really solid, great articulation and interesting rhythm variations. Layne be doing Layne things with the beatboxing. I would have never thought I'd hear "dubstep metal a capella" in one sentence

Geoff stayed in the BASSment this whole song 😂 I love this one so much
@par500dragon7 Жыл бұрын
On Eli's solo verse (bald rock tenor) he goes back and forth between a B4 and D5.. full voice! Then he hits an F5 in the last chord. Geoff hits and sustains several B0's throughout the song.
@acorrado5529 Жыл бұрын
Great reaction- thanks! Yes Layne and Geoff are masters at their arrangements and Eli (bald rock tenor) is amazing with the technical effects. The rapping part was done by J None (he is a former member that is active duty military now but comes back frequently to perform with Voice Play when he is on leave) For more rapping from J None, check out Voice Play's cover of "Superstition". You would probably enjoy Voice Play's cover of "Warriors" as both J None and Layne play violins (Layne can really rock out and shred a violin while beatboxing). All of them can sing bass and beatbox and Eli and Layne can surprise you when they rap. Very talented group that do all of their own production by choice without a contract or record label so that they have complete control of their creative expression (they are supported by their patrons that you always see at the end of their covers). Geoff hits a B0 three times in this one and holds the first one for 15 seconds.

Everybody else is all worked up and primed for battle. Geoff is all chill, cuz he knows he could sink all those ships with one thick B0. B frickin’ ZERO. LOL. Loved this reaction!!! More, please!

@ 6:22 You were wondering about the ending... I find myself going back over and over the end of this song because of the ultra-high tenor harmonic note that echoes for a moment after the voices stop.
@ilonadever8249 Жыл бұрын
They do everything vocally, except for the sometimes stomps and snaps. However they do layer their voices. Layne's part will sometimes 10 or more lines. I always have to remind myself that J did not crash through a heavy, old wooden door on rusty hinges, that was all Layne! My favorite moment in this piece is during the rap, when everyone else comes in with This Is War! Layne's editing moves those vocals to the back so they don't overpower J, it's amazing! I always keep the closed captions on, it sure helped trying to listen to the rap, my normal ears could not keep up!
@leechowning8728 Жыл бұрын
Fun fact, the overuse of his B0 actually left Geoff sore for a couple days. It has been entertaining watching the reactions to that first B0 section (all 15 seconds of it) and the rap section. They took their time making this song, and it shows.

They went insane on this one! It's still on loop on my Playlist. They never disappoint. Layne and Geoff are masters at arranging songs.

And I'm having a blast watching your reactions, love that you can breakdown what Layne is doing. A lot of people are astounded by him, but not many actually talk about what he is doing and how it's done. I love it! To remember his name just think the beatboxer played the violin in Warriors and Nothing Else Matters, hence, VioLayne! Speaking of Warriors, you should check it out!

Great reaction. Thank you for pointing out a lot of the beatboxing that I don’t usually catch. Because I’m a patron I get to listen to the karaoke track and that’s usually where I really focus on it. Then when I go out to listen to the full track again I am a little more aware of the intricacies of what they’re doing. One of my favorite parts is their “This is WAR” in the background while J is rapping. Previously they did a cover of My Mother Told Me (also associated with the video game Assassin’s Creed) when J was still a permanent member of the group. The makeup and a lot of the costuming is from MMTM. Among their tattoos are runes spelling out VoicePlay. Layne did the arrangement and Eli the amazing backgrounds. It was filmed at a studio with immense (Full wall!) LED screens. They frequently will use the karaoke track as musical accompaniment to the patron roll. Sometimes they’ll add a little Easter egg there.😊 Video editing is generally done by the person who arranged, but Eli has been more and more active lately. The final sound editing is done by Ed Boyer who also does the edits for Home Free and PTX. The credits were so long this time because they wanted to credit the studio where they filmed in front of those giant LED screens. Layne’s went totally crazy on their newest: Seven Nation Army. I would like to hear your breakdown.
@acorrado5529 Жыл бұрын
He did a wonderful reaction to Seven Nation Army a few days ago. I had been looking foward to his breakdown of that one and it was informative and enjoyable.
@katthor7311 Жыл бұрын
You highlighted the correct part in the credits of who did the video editing. In fact, the design, creation, production, editing...all of the video components were done by Eli, the tenor. They went to Vu Studios to film it because they needed their special camera and studio space hence all the extra credited people.
@katrinagreely5399 Жыл бұрын
Voiceplay is one of my absolute favorite groups. I really enjoy watching you react to them (and to Geoff C’s channel). I appreciate how you point out all the background sounds and how the beatbox sounds are made. I wouldn’t be able to catch all those details on my own. Thank you for that.

Most of the live videos of VP on here are crappy cellphone quality, but even in those, Layne's snare is crisp, clean and clear. It's pretty wild. That sound from him in particular stood out to me. They do have some older videos that were live recordings with no real production on them. The Aca top 10 series on their page if you wanna hear them without the production. Plus they're just really fun to watch, lol. They also don't seem to do much production on their recent minis. They just released Peaches the other day and it's freaking hilarious!
@CapriUni Жыл бұрын
I agree that their minis (usually just a verse and a chorus) are more impromptu. I think they're just done in the corridor of the mall just outside of Pattycake Productions studio (which is owned/run by Layne and former baritone Tony Wakim). I think my recent favorite minis are "Your Man," "World's smallest violin," and "These Boots are Made for Walking."

I’m so glad you did this one! That last bit where you explained what Layne did makes more sense now. I doubt I would ever think of an inhale there (certainly with my lack of beatboxing experience). So far most of the inhales we’ve heard from Layne have been very low pitched, so new to me that it doesn’t have to be. Thanks! Also good to hear what you thought of J’s flow. The actual rap was not written by him. Credit for the words actually goes to Alfredo Austin, who has written a rap part for J before (in VoicePlay’s cover of “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder) However, J does deliver well.

The ending is probably the most replayed because people skip to the end once the credits start so they don't mess up their playlist going to the next song (especially if randomized), but don't have to wait through all of the credits. If they were replaying to watch the credits, then the peak would be at the beginning of the credits not the end.

I just found out that Geoff and Layne both do the beatboxing. Geoff and Eli do bass. Layne did an interview with @charismaticvoice re: Moana, and song production. It was a neat interview. Geoff also has a video out on how to sing the subharmonics.

All of them can sing tenor, baritone, bass, and beatbox ... to varying degrees. Gives them a lot of flexibility in their arrangements.

After Scott, their first beatboxer, moved on into acting, Geoff worked to help Layne expand his already very strong beatbox game with lower tones. So it is fun watching videos like Nothing Else where Layne is doing something else and people are wondering who is doing the beats.
