May they Rest In Peace. They met an easier death than other conspirators who were hanged with piano wire. This was filmed and Hitler had his Jolie’s watching their slow death.
@tinaswan17343 жыл бұрын
Perversely, they were "lucky" to meet a relatively easy death. Fromm's intentions were purely those of personal self-preservation - the five men he court-martialed could identify that he had been aware, if not exactly a supporter, of the Attentat, hence following its failure had to be eliminated quickly. Had they lived, they would have been tortured without mercy and then faced the grisly and prolonged death. May they rest in peace.

Even if the plot had succeeded ,the West were not interested in a ceasefire ,. The plotters assumed that they would join England and the US and fight the Russians but the West was committed to a joint war with Stalin as an ally. A new democratic government in Germany would only have complicated things. Unconditional surrender was easier to handle.
@XavierY8283 жыл бұрын
True, unconditional surrender would still have been demanded. Maybe the new rulers would have complied to this which would have saved millions of lives. On the other side a new stab in the back theory would have been born. Rightwing Germans could have claimed that the war would have been won if it hadn’t been for those ‘traitors’ just like 1918.

@@2msvalkyrie529 Kenneth branagh and Tom Wilkinson and the other general guy are like my favorite actors is probably why I didn't mind the not speaking in German accent. And it's not like they spoke cockney or rough northern working class slang. It was believable to me. And like I said, I even didn't mind Tom cruise doing his American accent. It's not like he did it with a southern accent or exxagerrate american embarrassing one. No offense though. And I'm not offended by people that missed the movie entirely because of cast. Liam neeson in schindler's list definitely didn't do his native Irish accent but it also wasn't German like Christoph waltz speaks.

Many of the people involved in the coup were initially enthusiastic about Hitler's successes, but turned on him later due to the atrocities of the regime. General Treskow, for instance, was horrified by the order to kill captured Red Army commissars, and sought to avoid it. Beck turned against Hitler after the invasion of Czechoslovakia. Perhaps they should have recognized the wrong of the Nazi movement, but that is hindsight, and opposing the Nazis required rare courage.
@user_youtube-w5f Жыл бұрын
Everyone is talking about the heroism of these people. However, one point is missed. These people were active officers of Hitler's army, and served in it for a long time. And they decided on a conspiracy only after it was already obvious by 1944 that the Red Army of the Soviet Union would defeat Hitler's Germany 100%. Up to this point, they didn't do something conspiracy. Conclusion - before the Battle of Stalingrad and the Battle of Kursk, they were satisfied with everything. The murder of millions of civilians, persecution on a national basis... And when the inevitable reckoning loomed on the horizon - "oh, we need to save Germany, Hitler turns out to be bad!"

@Blahblobify You might well be right. In total honesty, I do not know for sure. During the early years of the war however, even less people in Germany knew about what Hitler and the Nazis were about then in later years. Perhaps a good man like Stauffenberg could never have dreamed that the Nazi regime would be what it turned out to be. I give him credit to him for acting in a very brave way to end the Nazi regime.Because of his courage, I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Well, this whole plot is overrated. The plotters didn't want or intended to end the war on all fronts, they intended to continue on Eastern Front where most of the the action as far as the number of people involved. Soviets would never stop given the amount of damage Germans inflicted on them. British would never forget London bombings. US would never invested so much to say, ok let's go home folks. So the plotters never accepted the responsibility of being a part of why Germany was where it was: in deep shit. So, that coup had no meaning in what happened to Germany in May of 1945.
@tinaswan17343 жыл бұрын
The coup had a meaning in the sense that there were human beings within Germany who opposed the Nazi regime, its policies and the atrocities that came with it. Incidentally, I wouldn't generalise when it comes to their motivations - there was considerable disparity between them in terms of what brought them to the Widerstand and their plans for post-nazi Germany had the Attentat succeeded.
