It's hard to belive that this fact based masterpiece by Bryan Singer was shunned by most major film awards (including the Oscars) & was panned by the critics & the same year the fictional Inglourious Basterds recieved so much critical praise & showered with awards..But that's Hollywood for ya, what a crying ass shame

I lived in Stuttgart for almost 3 years because my dad was a doctor in the American Army. German was the first language I ever spoke and this country will always have a special place in my heart. I hope to return for a visit one day.

I saw the movie the other day. It quickly became one of my favorites. Doing all the research on the actual events after seeing the movie for the first time makes it very hard to believe this actually happened. Incredible really... what else was surprising is the fact that the actors were very very close to the actual figures they were supposed to represent in terms of looks. Definitely, much appreciated.

In reply to rweghg3 No Oscar award decision can surprise me anymore, not after what happend to Rod Steiger. He deserved Best Actor for his performance in The Pawnbroker. Instsead the Academy gave that award to Lee Marvin for playing a drunken clown in Cat Ballou. Marvin did play his part well and it was perhaps the best performance of his career, but in no way was it on a par with Steiger's work.

There's a couple of German films based on this, story that are better and a bit more accurate. I lived in Germany for 2.5 years. Had a German nanny and as such German was the first language I spoke as a child. I lived in Stuttgart and miss this beautiful country and the fantastic German people.

General Olbricht masterminded Valkyrie. If Stauffenberg had not failed, it would have been a success. This movie was a farce and insulted a great general. Stauffenberg was not the central character...he was the delivery boy and botched it.

Yeah? Well Stauffenberg carried and planted the bomb. He took the biggest risk. He could of blown up himself or could of been discovered with the bombs. What he did was pretty ballsy for someone who is missing most of his right arm, part of his left hand and his left eye. Olbricht hesitated putting the home army on stand by after the bomb detonated, exactly the reason why Stauffenberg was needed. The Generals were too wishy washy. You need to rethink your comment my friend. A lot of people sacrificed a lot for this plot. No one is insulting anyone here...except you.
