This is the latest from Vanishing Inc (I work for ‪@VanishingIncMagic‬ now!) covering the magic of French magician Jean-Pierre Vallarino. While I enjoyed this book, I did find one "feature" to be a bug, but YMMV. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks Jeff. Another great and balanced review. I have enjoyed JPV’s performances especially his use of the Rhumba count, and his Mac Aces and Wildcard presentations - which I have attempted previously! The book was a must have for that reason and I’m not disappointed. I enjoy the photographs as a compliment to the performance videos given they are not explanation ones, but I can see the point about over stimulation. It works for me. Love these videos and appreciate the work you put into them. Thank you Derek

I have to respectfully disagree with you when it comes to photos. I am one that embraces all of the photos...it fills in where print may not. You just never know whether there is enough clarity during a certain step of a sleight/move in the written description. That one extra picture just might be the clincher. Bottomline (IMO)...it's better to err on more photos than not. Moreover, I would say there are more books that fail in their paucity of photos than not. Thank you for your reviews...keep them coming. Oh, yes, I own this book and think it is a great treatise on Vallarino. Hats off to Mr. Lovick.

Don't get me wrong - I don't think the book is bad. Far from it! I just didn't like the number of photos. It really did make me feel "overwhelmed" reading it. 🤷‍♂️

I agree - the book is quite heavy and a bit intimidating. It could have been done into two volumes but I appreciate the price and the quality. Thanks for the review.

Thank you, Jeff, for a great review!! Admittedly I am a Vallarino fan, and years ago I studied his FISM performance as I tried to reverse-engineer some of the sleights prior to availability published methods. I really appreciate Vallarino’s unique way of thinking about sleights, his impeccable timing that brings a musical rhythm to all the routines, his unusual take on the classical plots. I think the visual layout (with abundance of pictures) is great and reflect this visual style of the maestro (he was a photographer before he won FISM). I appreciate the ability of magic books to reflect the spirit of the “ creator”

As someone who grew up on the Ganson books, including The Magic of Slydini, I like the photograph heavy style. It allows you to truly understand a sleight or move, without becoming clones of the originator (which video encourages).

My only complaint with the book is the size of the photographs. I feel like they should have increased the size so you could actually see them without always having to move the book around. Now that would have cut down on the amount of photos which is fine because in reality you should only show as many photos that are needed. But I still like the book.

I think it's a great book, but I also believe 2,000 photos are overkill - totally unnecessary and slightly overwhelming

Great video as always. Agreed on the pictures, just from seeing your video. That is a completely unnecessary number of photos, even for a timid magician. Sometimes less is more. I think I'll consider getting it nonetheless as it sounds like a great book. Great production of your video, by the way. Appreciate the outdoors location for a change -- and am I correct in thinking you got yourself a drone for a few of those shots? Very cool!

Very interesting. I kinda liked Vallarino since I first met him a gazillion years ago: his style is aesterically beautiful, like a dance with the hands, but I have no use for a book stuffed with pictures which, from what I can tell from you review, are a little redundant.
@EruditeMagic
@EruditeMagic Жыл бұрын
You may not like it, then. 🤷‍♂️ There's plenty of material, so it's not a "pictures vs. tricks" situation, and the magic is great if you like sleight-of-hand card stuff.

Son, If you are finding books too heavy I suggest putting down the cards and do some calisthenics or yoga . You just gave this guy an obviously softball review and the only things you don’t like is too MANY pictures (?) and it’s too heavy. Is your only fault perfectionism ? Did they give you the book for free ? Sure looks like it.

@@EruditeMagic Ahh yes, the Name Erudite , you chose this name to infer that you are smart , then give the most banal reviews on the internet, somebody dares to call out your vapidity and then you have to quote Shakespeare to again reclaim your obviously self bestowed Title.
