I've actually seen magicians who pierce these veils with one trick in their show. The rest of the show is ok but then they perform one particular trick that just seems different, more connected and the audience feels it. Being in the audience, I had to wonder what made that one part so magical. I believe this video will help magicians discover how to achieve that wonder, and learn where to read more. Excellent.

Great advise. Thanks for sharing in a way that we all can understand, and benefit from if applied.

I really think those veils don't just apply to magic tricks. They work for anything you do. If you are passionate about what you're doing, have more knowledge than you need, and love your boss or customers, etc. -- you will be more successful. All of those veils apply to everything. Thanks for the video.

Superb video essay! I think Tamariz' reflections gain greater lucidity in the context of his major philosophical ideas that inform his style (E.g. 5 points of magic; Method False Solutions, etc). As magicians, we are keen to use our "skill" in order to hide our technique by erasing the vestige of sleights and misdirecting away from gimmicks. The greater the skill, the more of the skill stays hidden.

I own this book, and I really appreciated this deep dive as you reminded me of one of the best bits from it. It's incredibly helpful to be reminded of the absolute gems that live inside books like this. The Magic Rainbow is one of those books that you have to read many many times. I'd love to see more deep dives like this.

Yeah really enjoyed this topic.I like the scripted magic bit .I am totally against automation of script as though we are robots.🤖 A good story concerning the particular trick/routine done from your own individual self is the most authentic and original way forward.A fresh perspective of a routine can become very interesting and entertaining.Excellent.Thank you.👏👏👏

@EruditeMagic2 күн бұрын
Apples and oranges, in a way. Osterlind writes smaller booklets. This started life as a smaller book, but was compiled into this.

Hello Jeff, My name is Varun and we met during your visit to the Magic event conducted in India. As I already mentioned, please keep these videos coming! I was thinking if you could do a video on how magic compares to other performing art-forms like music/dance and how it can be elevated to a level that's at par or transcends other art-forms? Thank you!

Vanishing Inc surely isn’t helping with my ‘Book Problem’ 😂 or is it helping😅… Loved this video. Great content, so glad we met. I liked the Topical approach but pretty sure I’m the random approach guy… on the DC retreat, Michael Vincent challenged me to dedicate 1 hour per day to make progress in my magic education journey. So I’m excited to see where I am in the near future

Thanks, Will! I believe it's important to find a pathway that works with your personality and natural skills/rhythm. If that's an hour a day, great. If it's a more chaotic approach, that's fine, too

I remember at Magic Live, Johnny Thompson lectured on Charlie Miller. He called out Richard Kaufman to publish a compilation of Miller articles from Genii’s Magicana like he did with The Vernon Touch. Kaufman said he would and he did. Both books were special add ons to subscriptions of Genii. It a deal that is hard to pass.

I have recently been getting into magic books as a 22 year old. I wish there were more hours in the day so I can read and understand all the material. I have bought countless individual tricks and downloads but there is a special charm about learning a trick from a book. One good trick from any given book can be worth it's weight in gold.

I reckon if I was in a world where people can make objects vanish or teleport, with a flash of light or a puff of glitter, I would still be mesmerized by someone who can sink the 8 from across the pool table, and astonished by someone who can unshuffle a deck without a glimmer of sorcery. I think that the specialty of sleight of hand is the fact that it’s between worlds. It’ll make someone in a mundane world question what they knew about their existence, and it’ll also make reality seem unreal to someone who deals in the impossible. Penn & Teller Cups and Balls type stuff. Granted, that’s also probably not the question.
