Valletta's Secret underground war rooms ( Lascaris )

The Lascaris War Rooms are an underground complex of tunnels and chambers in Valletta, Malta that housed the War Headquarters from where the defence of the island was conducted during the Second World War. The rooms were later used by NATO and are now open to the public as a museum.

hi Andrew ..had a few problems with the camera over there, not my favorite place, do not like filming inside but interesting, was hoping to go in the tunnels they found but another day and extra ....just came from sliema over at the point ...really awesome place

Went in there with my wife,trying to find it even with signs is crazy,lucky enough an elderly gentleman from Malta asked us where we was looking for and he laughed and explained how his mother married an RAF chap and the great story that followed .Kudos to the people of Malta.

I worked in the war rooms when we used to do naval exercises in the 70s. They are in much better nick now. I went down the tunnel daily to work in Lascaris. Happy days!!

Another great video Steve, my grandfather was part of Operation Pedestal and other Maltese convoys for the Royal Navy on HMS Fury during the Second World War , perhaps why I feel such a connection with the Island .

I don't like underground places at all but I did go in there when it was the Royal Naval Communications Centre after the war. My dad worked in there for two years, I was only allowed in his office, not to go anywhere else and I hated it. Quite interesting the history of Lascaris here that tells of all the years it was used, not only during the war. Hi Steve, nice editing with the old movie scenes. Gee I remember going there many years ago when they where still fixing it, looks like they have done a lot since then, fascinating place. I was watching Maltese news last weekend and they said that the work being done on Bastions to the left on the Valletta main gate was finished ? Cheers

last time i went the valletta bastions ( the ditch ) still half ready ...Maybe wishful thinking !! This place give me so much trouble ...lots small rooms ,...and the camera was playing up ...Not one of my best .....look out for my next video the point fort sliema ...now that i enjoyed ... 😀😀😀😀

As a frequent, Danish visitor (Danish owned: Mellieha Vacation Park) I'm on Malta 2 to 3 times a year, last time for 7 weeks, and I have been visiting Valetta once until now. But sadly until now, not the War rooms! I imagine it is much like the similar Danish Center along the former defense wall round Copenhagen which was opened a few years ago? But I look forward to coming down, at one time. Until then we have the red watchtower on the other hill, protecting the Center from the pirates, and now being renovated with new paint!
