Placed my first order with VALLEY FOOD STORAGE on 7-27-17 (TODAY) and service was great and people helpful. I got Ckn Rice Pilaf, Ckn teriyaki, Chili Mac, Classic chili, Irish Pub Cheddar Soup, Pasta primavera, PLUS .... one bucket each of Freeze dried FRUITS and VEGGIES. Gave me 10% off on first order !! AGAIN, very HELPFUL FOLKS.

Once again WELL DONE...sure do like your video's and the detail / attention to the details you put into them. I can myself using the Husky at work. I work for one of the shipyard (just like the one in Bremerton) and I am constantly needing to bring a bunch of tools to the job site (sub) and there's nothing worse than finding you left the one you need behind...with this I can attach the tool organizer to my belt and have it with me. Unlike the HUGE tool bags we are given there's no pockets for organizing them.

Great video and great info. My only concern is the amount of cook time. 15 - 20 in an extended full power out situation, would require a lot of fuel for 3 meals a day (I think. I've never been in that situation for very long). But great product review, especially from Kid Prepper. I now know to stock up on the Mac N Cheese for my kid. Thanks and Happy New Year!

Kevin Baker - - My goodness! Since you've already been down that road (albeit for 1 week that still seems plenty long enough for a wake-up call for food storage to me), you have given me some good ideas. Thank you very kindly for sharing your experiences with us!

I think they're really affordable--the #10 cans from Mountain House are about $40 each, and come with about 10 servings ($4/serving). The Valley Food pouches are 5 servings for about $12 each (~$2.50 a serving). I also like that you're opening a pouch instead of a huge can.
@TheUrbanPrepper
@TheUrbanPrepper 9 жыл бұрын
+Whitfield Parham Excellent point! I should have mentioned the cost per serving. I too enjoy the pouch vs. the huge can. More practical, IMO.

+TheUrbanPrepper, does Valley Foods offer smaller sized packages, or offer instructions on rehydrating smaller amounts? That would be helpful to singles and couples if they came in packages for one or two servings. I see that the packaging is resealable (zip lock closure) which would allow you to remove enough for one or two servings and keep the rest to use later.

After watching this video, I went to their website. They will send a free sample if you pay for shipping. So I ordered one. And, I am pleasantly surprised at how good they really are. Our sample was the Irish Pub Style Cheddar Potato. Made as instructed and shared with the kids. They approved and asked if we could have it for dinner! LOL. Anyways, thanks for the review! I will definitely be getting more of these for my prepping needs!

I wonder if you mixed some of the lime chili with the Mac and cheese if the adults would like the Mac and cheese more.

Excellent video, UP Crew. It's always great to have reviewers actually try these foods out and give an honest opinion of them. These look to be very affordable and will definitely end up in my emergency pantry. Thanks for the review.

+Whoozerdaddy Nice! I always enjoy testing out the various options for long term food storage. These ones were pretty exceptional; extra long shelf life, quality ingredients, good packaging, affordable cost per serving, easy to prepare and they tasted great. I've been trying to find "the catch", but I'm not sure that there is one. These were made "by the people, for the people". People = Preppers. I am definitely going to stock up.

Wow! 25 year shelf-life!? That's awesome, and they look tasty. Having a cool and fresh basement cache for food would be an great for Preppers that would not like to bug out, and having them in conjunction with MRE's and stuff would be smart in a bug out Bag or a dedicated Food BOB bag.
@TheUrbanPrepper

+Kik Stark These would work PERFECT in your basement storage. Bugging In is definitely recommended if at all possible.

I'm also really impressed with the cost of these. I've avoided stocking up on Mountain House because of the cost but 5 230 calories serving for $12 that last 25 years is a steal. I'm going to have to try out a few and see if I enjoy them as much as you guys did.

I LOVE their White Bean & Lime chili and bought a bunch of those for extra. I made 1/2 pkg at first and found that half the water they called for made it VERY watery and I had to keep adding instant potatoes to thicken it up. For an extra good flavor add some canned chicken and/or some green salsa verde. I've tasted one other brand of stored food white bean chili, but Valley Foods was WAY better IMO.

You are doing the inhouse preparation. If you did this outside in a container (me, JetBoil), I use the JetBoil for only making a simmering, barely steaming hot water. Then pour into packet, ziplock, squatty sit, and jiggle mash for mixing up the product. The hot JetBoil dries out. Then make an "S" shape of the packet and slide into the container. This makes the elliptical mouth shape change to "O" and you can eat out of the packet and JetBoil/container without burning your hands (or man jewels). The mylar sits inside the metal container and keeps so hot, that it takes me 15-20 minutes to finish a packet. No more dropping food back into the packet, on lap, shirt, or ground. Easy to finish entire packet, pull out, ziplock, lick spoon clean, and put all away, no dishwashing. All clean eating.

- The serving calorie counts are as follows (from the Valley Food website): White Bean 230 calories per serving Irish Pub 230 calories per serving Mac and Cheese 250 calories per serving Pasta Primavera 380 calories per serving - For Comparison sake: A Clif bar is 250 calories A Big Mac value meal is 1320 calories with medium Coke An MRE is about 1200 calories - During combat a male burns up to 4,000 calories per day - A sedentary male burns 2,000 calories per day

Sea salt is great but you lose the iodine that's in table salt and that's something that in a survival environment seems to me would be important. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

UrbanPrepper;your videos are cool...however,I haven't seen one where you talk about how to find out what's going on in the country or world when usual communication & power grids are down.I guess walkie-talkie communication and AM/Shortwave radio would be helpful.I don't know what would happen to GPS,wired phones,etc.Oh I forgot...also,it'd be great if you talked about solar and dynamo-rechargeable devices and gadgets useful for prepping.

TheUrbanPrepper Its always hard for me to wrap my head around "servings" as its really subjective, one companies serving could be a meager 80 calories whereas anothers is 250.

I lol'ed at the video hand bombing ... yeah i see you there KidPrepper :D ... though i will have to say you should have at least tried the Pasta Primavera, it sounds really tasty ... now obviously the beans are just blergh (it took me year to be able to stomach them in any kind of dish) and the irish cheddar simply sounds to foreign to even wanna try (although from the package it reads mainly like potatoes with cheese, may not have been that bad) ... pasta primavera though, just a different shaped macaroni with a slightly different sauce on it, could have at least taken a bite ;) ... (though I won't fault you on the beans and irish stuff, some thing are just common sense to steer away from ;D ) ... ... @TUP , tnx for sharing, sounds like a good option to look into for longer term storage, and like you implied 'a change in spice brings out the appetite' (or something along those lines)

Great video. 25 year shelf life is great, but the price isn't. I looked at the meal plans and it's pretty expensive. I buy my own food and seal it in mylar. I do buy a lot of Augason Farms #10 cans (milk, butter, meat, etc..). But none the less great for a single person.
