Got lucky on the head bolts.. i got to the last son bich and stripped out the threads at like 50° on my last turn.. so had to take the head back otff buy new head bolts, new gaskst, and the timecert kit to drill out every damn head bolt hole., some bull..

You did a great job and even went back when you realized you may have missed things! That where many fail, (including me). I am in the process of replacing the timing chain cover after a blown head gasket and stipped head bolt threads. With the RTV on the Timing Chain cover I noticed some apply RTB to the edges of both side corners where the head meets the block. One person applied RTV before putting the head on. Just on the corners. Did you have any leaks?

Great video. Thanks. Do you have the torque spec for the bolts on the oil pump for the Camry 2AZ-FE engine. I would appreciate that. Thanks again!

Fyi you should assemble crack shaft first and assemble pistons on engine stand using cope straws

I heard you can't hone out Toyota 2azfe blocks? If you need to do that you should replace the engine. Is it just not economical in general or some other reason? I thought they don't have steel cylinder sleeves - just alloy aluminum? Are the new pistons a Toyota product for this engine or aftermarket?

Is this the 2AZ-FE 2.4 Litre ? I thought you couldn't Hone these because they were a 1 time use block? Could someone clarify this please? I have a 1AZ-FE 2.0 Litre from a 2006-2008 Toyota RAV4.. planning for a rebuild.. But I can't get a clear understanding if you could use a Hone to put in a new Crosshatch?? OR... that it is a "1 time use".. Some have " Cast Iron Cylinder Liners", other have the "Spiny Type Cylinder Liners.. (Whatever the last means? " Spiny Type.. " Hope someone can elaborate on this.. Cheers!

When replacing the rod and crank bearings, do you not need to use a plastigauge to ensure the tolerances are right?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Hey Josh, good question. The machine shop did all the measuring and ordering of the bearings, pistons and rings. Since they are more experienced in that area than I am I deferred to their expertise. I just installed them 🙂

Did you do the cylinder head-bolt inserts job? I thought those threads were a weak point in 2azfe engine?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Hey Bob, you're right! These Toyota engines had issues with weak threads. The block was taken to the machine shop and they made sure the threads were in good shape. When installing the head bolts I had no issues with the bolts clamping down and torquing properly.

Did the head get machined or just cleaned? I heard machining VVT heads can mess up VVT timing.
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Yes, the head was machines at the machine shop. The amount of metal that actually gets removed is very little. This will not affect the operation of the vvt system. But just like on any head there is a tolerance limit to how much you can machine 👍

They said the rings were seized in the grooves. I imagine they got scrapped. Unfortunately that's what happens a lot in the automotive world. A lot of waste is produced in old parts.

Can balance shaft be repaired without pulling the engine? I've got a 2005 2.4 with lots of engine noise, no oil leak no water in oil, but a vibration and hard knocking. Not sure yet what it is as in trying to determine what to do next. Ty
@robertpeters9438
@robertpeters9438 2 жыл бұрын
Have you verified spark, fuel injector, and compression leak down consistency? I.e. do you have a week cylinder? That can shake a 4 cyl right out of motor moumts.
@mikelunsford2587
@mikelunsford2587 2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely either a broken piston or ?? Not sure yet. Definitely a hard break. But I've ruled out ignition, fuel, motor mounts, transmission, and oil pump. But I'm not sure if the engine would still run if a half shaft had problems.. I know it'll run with a vibration and miss with a broken piston. Hard knock is key here.. I could always pull coil packs and check if pistons are moving.. but I thought maybe someone would have an idea
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive 2 жыл бұрын
If you want to look at the bottom end you can pull the oil pan off. I think the exhaust needs to be lowered in the front. You can get to the balance shaft and I think 3 connecting rods. Number 4 rod is under the case half and not accessible. If it's a rod knock you may have to pull the engine to repair it.

@@passion830217 I would just continue to drive it and maintain it like you are. 1 qrt per 1k miles would have been considered acceptable by Toyota even when it was new. I believe you are still in pretty good shape. Just be sure you are checking and adding oil accordingly.

In my 2005 Camry LE, same engine, 250K miles, head gasket failed and oil and coolant mixed. So I would only do this repair because of the leak. If your car is not showing any sign of damage, don't bother.
