This video gave my the info and know how to replace a front wheel bearing on my '06 Highlander without a press. I also bought the same press kit and I'm very happy with the quality. (The threads on the screw held up just fine...one of the washers got mangled but that's no big deal). FWIW, here's my story... I live in a rust state and no way was it easy-peasy to remove the bearing...in fact, the bearing with 355,000 miles on it was not coming out using my Ridgid mid-torque impact wrench. It didn't even budge. To avoid spending a whole day using heat and trying to partially cut the remaining bearing, I bit the bullet and took the knuckle to a local repair shop...cost was $40 (including tip). Mechanic told me it put up a fight on his 30 ton press. Installing the new bearing was very easy using the press kit. I thoroughly cleaned inside the hub with rust penetrant and a very, very fine grit scotch brite (maroon color) pad. In addition, I put the bearing in the freezer overnight...coated inside the hub with light weight machine oil (20w) ... the bearing slid right in without putting any strain on the Ridgid. When installing the hub, make sure the adapter bushing plate fits inside the snap ring and makes contact with and covers the inner race of the bearing. See The Car Care Nut YT where he explains in more detail.

At the end you mention that the press kit allows for pressing in and out while still connected which is mostly true except for removing the hub which requires a slide puller if you leave it all attached. By taking it all out you were able to avoid the puller and use your socket to knock it out from the back.
@kovalenkoihor4325 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. That what I was going to say
@АлександрАндреев-к2ы2 ай бұрын
Attention, an error occurred, time at 12.14. The insert will rest against the retaining ring and not fit against the bearing. When you start to compress: the inner ring of the bearing will shift relative to the outer ring and damage the bearing balls. After such installation the bearing will not last long.

When pressing the hub I assembled the press tool as instructed and separated the race from bearing. It seems that on the last step of pressing the hub that the disk should be installed with the flat side as you started to do at first.
@ValleyMobileAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
Hey Martin thanks for the comment 👍. Just in case you're thinking you need a new bearing, a little separation is ok. When you tighten the CV axle down it will suck everything back together nice and tight. If you have any questions or thoughts feel free to comment 👍

So what’s stopping you from just pulling the bearing without disconnecting the knuckle from the control arms? Yeah I get that the passenger side CV Axle is long but you can use a rope to pull it away for better clearance when you get to use the 1/2” impact

It's no bad if the center nut is too tight, didn't affect the bearing ?

Can it be, that wheel bearing is built in to the hub? It sems like I'm trying to press mine and I don't even see the border of the bearing.
@ValleyMobileAutomotive Жыл бұрын
Make sure the snap ring is removed and you are pressing it out in the right direction. It is in there pretty tight but it will come out. Don't give up 👊
@kovalenkoihor4325 Жыл бұрын
@@ValleyMobileAutomotive All went good. I just needed a big wrench to hold the nut, because the force needed was that high that the nut startet to spin. PS: BTW, I don't think you've done it right pressing the hub at 12:16. The black circle you've taken to lay on the bearing was as big to lay on the stop-ring, not the bearing itself. And as result, when you were pushing the hub, the inner race of the bearing was able to be pushed out of outer race as far at depth of the stop-ring. So like 3-4 mm, which for sure damages the bearing (not known to which extent, maybe it's negligable). To be safe with the bearing, the correct diameter would be just to lay on the bearing and inside the stop-ring, not on it (and I think it's important to make the process as safe as possible for the new bearing. ) Or hub should be pressed without setting the stop-ring (it's not important at the moment of pressing the hub to hold the bearing inside the knuckle, because the force is to the inner race, not the outer). Besides that, excellent tutorial. Was able to make it watching this video.

when I saw that Ryobi impact take that bearing out I laughed. FYI a press sometimes has difficulties taking that bearing out or pressing it back in! it's not as easy as it looks in the video to be honest. but good luck trying it! I would recommend a press 100%.
@drakeforte5682 жыл бұрын
When do you know to stop pressing? Will it bottom out and will just stop? Thanks.
@ValleyMobileAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
Yep, it will bottom out. You'll notice a change in sound/feel of the tool. You should also be able to see a lip on the front of the knuckle with the bearing out. That lip will stop it from pressing in more.
@drakeforte5682 жыл бұрын
One more q. Whats the torque rating on that Ryobi impact? I can't believe it's able to pull the bearings - that's some torque right there. Thanks
@ValleyMobileAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
@@drakeforte568 This one is rated at 300 foot pounds. Plenty of force to get this job done 👍. They also came out with a new one with higher torque ratings if you feel you need more.

Is it necessary to replace the hub when changing the bearing on this vehicle?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive2 жыл бұрын
Good question. It's not necessary but it's a whole lot easier. To reuse the old hub you have to either cut off or torch off the left over bearing race.

I lubed up the bolt, nuts and washers too but can’t get it to work using a breaker bar on one side and a ratchet on the other…much less and impact wrench and my bare hand like in this video.
