From what I have read, half of Valneva is being produced in California and sent to France, where the other half is added. The vaccine is not available in the USA 😭 but is being used in Europe. You will be waiting for seemingly forever then. Why would you wait for a vaccine that gives comparatively short term immunity just like Novavax?
@lisa8275

@@sofascialistadankulamegado1781 it seems that Pfizer wants to give booster shots every 6 mths at least; if I have that correct. So do you have information that Novavax lasts less than 6 mths? If you look into it more closely I think you may find that most people wanting to wait for Novavax have pre-existing conditions/personal or family health histories around clotting, palsy etc & the adverse events databases have many instances of those types of reactions occurring with the currently available vaccines. Results from Novavax trials have shown less adverse effects so it looks promising for those with valid health concerns. From what I read, Valneva does the inactivation by chemical beta-propriolactone BPL. This is a disinfectant. I would like to know how its gets filtered out or neutralized afterwards, since it is a human carcinogen. There must be a way, since it is also used to sterilize blood plasmas
@Cristina091

You know that the meaning of neutralizing is to prevent the expected reaction. Exactly, the BPL works as a neutralizer to inactivate the virus, it's necessary the product BPL, which (in low quantities) is responsible for maintaining the antigens of the native virus to preserve protective immunity.

Hey There! Thank you for your videos. I love both vaccines Novavax and valneva. But here is where I have some questions. Novavax seems to elict mainly humoral immunity which seems to drop fast after a while. It is quite hard to find reports on the cellural immunity. While Valneva is promising here despite not having such repid humoral immunity we get broad response including cellural with very mild adjuvant. If you'd have to guess which ones would be prefered covid vaccines in following years?
@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192
@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192 3 жыл бұрын
I agree it's hard to find published studies comparing how well each vaccines makes cellular versus humoral immunity. It seems like the viral vector vaccines and mRNA vaccines make the most memory T cell responses. Between Valneva and Novavax, it would have to be a guess then. It is likely that Valneva contains more toll-like receptor ligands and therefore will activate more innate immune cells and T cells.

As a friendly neighborhood immunologist, you should maybe have pointed out that 4000 persons are way too few for a phase 3 study. Maybe you should also have pointed out that the Valneva phase 3 study didn´t use a placebo control group. The control group got the Astra Zeneca vaccine. By this setup alone, the study is completely useless. In 4000 persons there are no severe outcomes because there are little to no infections. Maybe you should also have pointed out that CpG, the enzyme you seemed so happy about, is completely new, so Valneva is not the well-known vaccine we use for 60 to 80 years. There is only one other vaccine using CpG, and this vaccine has been approved less than 10 months ago. Also, this vaccine is rarely used, so there is little to no knowledge about CpG and its side effects. Most importantly, I really would have liked you to mention that vaccinating against Corona is pretty much stupid in the first place, as mathematically for every person that is protected against medium to severe outcomes there is a multitude of persons going through medium to severe vaccine side effects. And this ratio only worsens with each additional booster jab.

If the Valneva shot gets antibodies produced against more proteins than just the spike protein, wouldn't it stand to reason that it would be more effective against variants than mRNA shots, which only get antibodies against the spike protein produced?
@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192
@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! The logic of many varied antibodies over one type of antibody does make sense. There is no head to head data between Valneva and Pfizer or Moderna. If you look at the other whole inactivated vaccines like Sinovac or Covaxin their efficacy is a little lower than the mRNA vaccines. This could be due to many variables that we can't account for. It may be that the mRNA vaccines cause more antibody production or that the antibodies last longer, but in the real world comparing data across countries is very difficult. All of the vaccines are keeping people out of the hospital, so that's something they have in common. Also the spike protein can't mutate too much or the coronavirus won't be able to use it to get into our cells, since the spike protein must conserve the key region which binds to ACE2.

Mitochondria is in each cell and is like a Bacteria that is symbiotic. Is it totally guaranteed that no stem cells are in the vaccine, and it can not attack the mitochondria to make cancer cells? Is the inactivated whole coronavirus being made and provided by France, or made and provided for by the USA? The standards are very different, like what is acceptable in food items for human consumption (Nestle).

I always wondered why nobody makes a covid-19 variant that is extremly contangious but has almost no symptoms that only produces viruses with tissue that is easily regrowing and doesn't cause permanent harm. Just release and bam everyone gets immunized. Or is this the reason why we are in this pandemic afterall? Because covid-19 was supposed to be that. I think gain of function isnt that bad. If safety Standarts are fullfilled strictly. Is anyone working on a solution for corona like that currently?
@clementepinos6848
@clementepinos6848 2 жыл бұрын
There's someone working on.this solution right now: nature itself. The virus is evolving to be more contagious, but less deadly. Deadly viruses kill their host, and they die with their host. Non-lethal viruses don't kill their host, and this allows the host to spread it; this has been the tendency with SARS-cov2. This is natural selection. Everyone gets infected with a non-lethal coronavirus, gets inmunized, people stop dying, and a balance is reached. So nature itself (or god) is ending this pandemic.

@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192
@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question which has not been tested. In the clinical trials, only 3 or 4 week spaces between shot have been tested. If this wasn't a pandemic, the spacing would likely be more like a regular vaccine schedule with months in between.

@@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192 - Right! I’m no expert, but if the data says waning is on the order of about 6 months, getting your second dose after say 4 months should be better in the long run as it would extend your immune defenses for a longer period of time, which is a good thing given variants and such.

@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192 3 жыл бұрын

This is what initially made me realize we were being deceived about the jabs. Even the FDA guidelines tell manufacturers to use ARR (absolute risk reduction) instead of RRR (relative risk reduction), since RRR can be misleading. If they wanted consumers to be truly informed prior to giving consent, they should provide both ARR & RRR, since they each tells a different side of the story.

@friendlyneighborhoodimmuno7192

In a regular year, but not right now. There is published scientific data that eating healthy and working out boosts your immune cell numbers and performance. However, hospital beds are full right now, so natural immunity has met it's match. People who are unvaccinated are 88-94% of the people who are in the hospital. Vaccines have worked to rid the world of Polio and Smallpox. Our immune systems are amazing but many people have reasons why their immune systems don't work well and they are at increased risk of lung damage and death from COVID. Natural immunity makes sure we can fight off almost any of the 800 cold viruses, but it doesn't fight off HIV or cancer without help. It's been a hundred years since humanity has been challenged by a global pandemic like this, so our immune systems do not have antibodies to help fight COVID unless you get vaccinated. Take care
