Value Hobby G32 Brushless Motor Unbox and Price Comparison

There is quite a price gap in brushless motors for radio controlled airplanes as you start creeping up the scale in size. Smaller brushless motors are available from a wide range of sellers and excepting the higher end brands like Rimfire, e-Flite, and Scorpion, most are cost competitive within a few dollars.
Not so with larger motors. This 32 class motor is a low cost option sold by Value Hobby for $30. Higher end motors in the same class can go for as high as $120.
I've provided the unbox to show what you get and to do a little price comparison against the competition. After Christmas, I'll mount this motor and get a prop test data video posted. So stay tuned.

Yeah, gforce and Leopard are my go to motors now - a - days. The price can’t be beat, value is top notch since I’ve been flying these motors for quite some times, anywhere for 3s-6s and 40-80amp esc’s depending. I don’t understand why More people aren’t buying these and forcing the market from eflite and rimfire Down

I just switched from glow to electric. I have a S.P.A.D. plane made from PVC gutter and corrugated plastic. It weighs just under 5lbs with this motor, 10x4 Master Airscrew Electric Only prop, 60A ESC, and 4S LiPo. when I launched it the first time I was AMAZED at the power this motor provides. It has unlimited vertical, and flies straight and level at 1/4 throttle. Great motor IMO.

Thanks for sharing Jeremy. I’ve been looking for an excuse to try this line of brushless motors because the price is so compelling. So judging by your comment, are you using 4s batteries? What size prop and esc? How much do the three planes weigh?

World models 1/6 scale cub 5.5lbs 12x7 prop 60 a esc,phoenix models funstar 5 lbs 12x7 60a esc ,hobby express funster 6lbs12x7 60a esc I use 4s on all three and have plenty of power,I havent heard of anyone using 5s but will probably try it in the funstar this summer

I did hook up a meter after my builds,but I cant remember the numbers now,I know that a 50amp esc will suffice though ,I just picked up last week a mint nextar ep off craigslist that came with skis[25.00] that comes with a stock 4250 800kv rimfire and the manual calls for a 5s battery even though the rimfire specs reguire 3-4 s it will be interesting to see if its worth 60.00 clams more

I've never really pay much attention to the voltage guidelines by the motor manufacturers. I do try to keep amperage in line with their recommendations though. I like Rimfire motors--just wish they weren't so expensive. If a 50a ESC worked then you're under the max limit spec'd for the motor--so good. I'll start with your setup. I also have some 5s packs and 11" props. FYI: I have a Rimfire 46 on an Escapade MX running a 11x6 prop on 4s and it flies just fine. A guy at the field is flying a Revolver (just posted a video on my channel) with a Rimfire 46, 11x5.5 and 6s.

I came into an original NIB VH Grumman G44 Widgeon. Recommended motor is the G 25. Well, short story long, they have 2 G 15's, 2 G32's. Apparently the G 25 is not even listed on their website anymore. The G 15's are close to the same size as the 25's, so I bought two of the 4 cell capable ones.

To add a touch of clarity: I like the high dollar motors--really. I'm just interested in finding equivalent or superior performance for less money. So this comes down to a search for more value.

Im getting everything from Value hobby, really fast delivery, good price,Value hobby is kicking hobbyking. The only thing value hobby doesn't so much staff as hobby king but hobbyking have a lot of the plane out of stock, same thing than nitroplanes

i ordered this motor to put in my cherokee when i built it a couple years ago. the shaft was warped badly, the housing would rub itself. i wasnt real pleased with valuehobby when i had to pay shipping to send it back for a refund. i think tacon motors are better quality but like you said they are never in stock at hobbypartz. the gforce elite lipos are great. thats what i use.

That sounds like a very unfortunate experience with the G32. I would be upset to pay money for a defective "new" product return. Mine seemed good out of the box. Good report though. Have you looked into Cobra? Innov8tive designs and rcdude carry them. They're more expensive, but very good quality. I've never gotten my hands on GForce Lipos. They're always out of what I'm in the market to buy.

i havent used cobra motors but i have been wanting to try them. in forums some say they are great motors. one person said he was using scorpion and cobra and now just cobra so they must be really good. if you get the gforce batts get the elite series.

Hey John, you mentioned the TOMCAT G32 Motor in this Video. I have one of the TOMCAT G32's in my SIG T-Clips and it works great. I got mine from Grayson Hobby. I paired it with a Grayson Hobby 70A ESC. One nice thing about Grayson is they will solder on Bullet Connectors to the Motor and also the ESC connectors Plus your choice of battery connector on the ESC. it is a small up charge, but for people that are not confident in their soldering skills, it may be worth it. I soldered my own, but it's good info. As far as the GForce, it says it's rated for 3S and 4S in the Specs. You ran this on 5S. Any issues so far?

David Knutz no issues with the motor. I don't worry about voltage on brushless. I pay attention to amp draw. These are decent little motors for the money.

Nice comparison.. I just acquired a plane with a cobra C-4120 850 motor, and phoenix edge lite 75 amp ESC, The plane also came with a spare Turnigy G32 motor and Turnigy plush 60amp esc.. I'm guessing the guy ran the Turnigy motor/esc first then upgraded to the Cobra/phoenix edge ESC.. maybe for a reason?

SuperchargedJester There is no doubt in my mind Cobra motors are higher quality. Most certainly the bearings. The story behind G32? “Half”. They’re literally half the price of Cobras and about a third the price of Rimfires. As of now I haven’t found a downside to these motors.

@@SuperchargedJester Electric is the way to go IMHO. My electric motors always run. I don't waste flight time tuning. This motor has held up fine for me. It's not the same quality as say a Cobra, but it still works.

Do you have any recommendation for a cheap motor that is capable of 3s-6s with a 9x8e-3 pusher prop? It's for an airboat

Those parameters make it tough to make a recommendation. 1) 3s-6s is a huge variance for a motor and single prop size. 2) I don't spec motors based on voltage, I spec them based on amperage. 3) I derive amperage requirements from watts/lb and voltage of the pack I intend on using. So if you can rephrase your question: How much does the plane weigh? How many watts per lb do you want? What voltage do you want to use? It's unlikely you'll be able to go from 3s all the way to 6s with the same prop without being wholly underpowered at 3s and seriously over amp'd on 6s. @@mrfourtysevenman 6s 13x6x3 - 54a/1158w/55mph/4260g Thrust. Use whatever MAH size works for weight/balance/space--probably not more than 4000mah. On 5s your pitch speed will be too slow (47mph).

@@mrfourtysevenman You really need to learn to use eCalc when you start making your own combos to help you get a starting point. I've collected enough motors, batteries, and props at this point that I can generally move things around to get me where I want to be. If you don't have alternatives readily available, then eCalc is an absolute must. It's very cheap and totally worth it.

Good. Hopefully you'll be able to find most cost competitive alternatives. That's what it's all about for me. I don't mind spending my money, but I want good value. This G32 holds promise in the value equation if the performance is there. I really should get a Rimfire 32 and do a shootout.

I got a skywalker 50amp that says it’s 50amp continues current and 65 amp 10sec Burst ? Makes me wonder when the rimfire .32 is asking for a 45 amp esc Why such a small esc for the rimfire ? Can you test a 50 amp esc?

@@MyLastRites Corey, I already know the VH G32 hits 59a. I've done the test. All the data is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jn_OkGOQea6igJY I would not run a 50a ESC on that motor if you design for peak. Here's the math on Rimfire: Power System Recommendation45 Amp ESC, 4S LiPo Constant Watts 850 Burst Watts 1480 850w/16v = 53a 1480w/16v = 92a So on THEIR OWN NUMBERS 850w constant static @ 16v you are at 53a. At 1480w burst @ 16v you are WAY over with 92a. Don't believe all the marketing material you read. 32 class motors should land somewhere around 55a static at peak. In my opinion, a 50a ESC is too close to use. These motors should run a 60a.

It like these manufacturers come at you with two different angles . On one hand they figure your going to be expensive with the rimfire so the lowball you with the esc thinking your going to buy a $200 Doller 45 amp esc so that if you were to go cheap with the esc it fails and then on the other hand with GForce they highball you thinking your going to be cheap so they recommend max because they know you might go cheap on the esc and they don’t want a bad review of there motor you get what I’m saying it’s good to look at the data.
