I'm glad u talked about this I quit painting in color a few months ago for it being way to confusing to make value decisions in color. Best decision I ever made. In the future I'll jump back into color with the knowledge I've learned in painting black and grey and see if it has helped. I have up most respect for the people who can juggle value and color.

I think that is a great solution. many classical drawing schools require months or even years of working exclusively in grayscale before moving to color. Thanks for the feedback

As usual, love the podcast. I've recently started getting back into my artwork, and although I'm not doing anything on skin yet, all of these help me with my artwork.

I have a question for anyone in the comment section who has an answer. I just got my first machines and I cant figure out what im doing wrong with the transfer paper. I get the stencil on my skin just fine but, once i start to ink and wipe its bye bye stencil. How do i get the stencil to dry properly?
@FiresideTattooNetwork8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching James. There are a few possible reasons you are having this issue. First, be sure to clean the skin very well before placing the stencil. Second, when you place the stencil, be sure to let it set for a minute or so before removing the transfer paper. Then let it dry for a few more minutes before you start to tattoo. (I use this time to get my inks out). FInally, while lining, be sure to only wipe with water and not soap. The soap will remove the stencil much faster. Hope that helps

You guy keep mentioning muddying up your colors when wiping darks over lights. Guy Aitchison questions this belief as do I. He has mentioned he just works his pieces out till each section is basically finished. He has said that I'd it was that easy to get pigment to stay under the skin. I have seen what could be considered muddied but it has always healed out. This doesn't make for the best post tattoo picture but I've never seen it mess a piece up. Its something I try to avoid doing but it's a curious subject.

I think we were talking about a murky effect when putting a light color over a healed grey. I completely agree with Guy in that I have never had an issue with dark colors staining my light tones. Sorry for the confusion

every time I lay wash under color, it takes from it. then eventually washes out. color first my man!

While I believe that value is more important than color, I agree that laying color over greys tends to wash it out. Thanks
